man I was listening the night that the Mighty Met, KMET, became The Wave. as far as I know nobody outside of the station knew it was coming, Jim Ladd (who we all hated and listened to in order to stoke the fires of our hatred, dude would not shut up about Jim Morrison for even a minute) said something about how after that night there were going to be some changes at KMET, and you might like 'em, but you might not, but it had been his pleasure to take you on journeys blah blah and I was driving and thinking "whoa...what the fuck is up w/Jim Ladd tonight, are you fired or something?" and then at midnight BOOM..."You're listening to 94.7...the Wave."

At the time that was exactly the music I had least use for and I'd listen just to see how long I can take it but of course now I can listen to this stuff for hours, KTWV otm, ban Jim Ladd

also as great as a lot of this stuff is everybody's sleeping on "I Like It," that jam can stand w/the best of these, Debarge is slept-on so I'm voting for him even over "My First, My Last, My Everything," give El the love he deserves

The station changed to a New Age Music/Soft Rock/Contemporary Jazz format with the nickname "The Wave," with initial focus primarily on non-vocal new age music.[1] Its first song played on the relaunched format was Sting's "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free". During the Wave's new age music period, management told the station employees to refer to The Wave as a "mood service" rather than a "radio station". For the first 19th months there were no live Disc Jockeys, instead "vignettes" done by actors, reflecting; everyday occurrences. Ratings were weak and John Sebastian was hired as the new Program Director. On September 19, 1988 live jocks were back. John hired Don Burns, Talaya Trigueros, Keri Tombazian, Amy Hiatt and China Smith. [1]

My laundromat stopped playing this station, I think? Or they just haven't changed it back after spending the holidays tuned to the station that was playing Xmas music (it's an MOR/adult-pop station).
