J0rdan S., Sunday, 8 September 2013 15:12 (eleven years ago)

its good

johnny crunch, Sunday, 8 September 2013 15:17 (eleven years ago)

yup

ciderpress, Sunday, 8 September 2013 15:19 (eleven years ago)

it's great but i dunno, it's kinda already peaked, and what is there even to say about it? i dunno if it's any better than the Calvin Harris/Florence joint from earlier this year either.

gtfoh

J0rdan S., Sunday, 8 September 2013 15:52 (eleven years ago)

there isn't much to say about it but no one has really said much about it on ilx anyway

J0rdan S., Sunday, 8 September 2013 15:53 (eleven years ago)

what do you want to say about it then

even the one w/ carly rae jepsen's husband is better

dyl, Sunday, 8 September 2013 16:05 (eleven years ago)

oh is that 'spectrum'? yeah i was pretty into that last year

r|t|c, Sunday, 8 September 2013 16:11 (eleven years ago)

fabulously awful lyrics iirc

r|t|c, Sunday, 8 September 2013 16:12 (eleven years ago)

a couple weeks ago my son was in the car when this came on the radio, and he 'sang' along to the big build, just kinda humming "EHHHHHHHHHH" as it got louder and more intense, it was pretty great

suggest ban & threadban method man & redman (some dude), Sunday, 8 September 2013 17:00 (eleven years ago)

is there much to say about this song or him? or i guess generally edm pop stuff

i don't like a lot of it but madeon's remix of an otherwise-boring yelle song from a couple years ago is actually the best example i have heard of it. sadly i haven't liked any of his actual singles.

dyl, Sunday, 8 September 2013 17:23 (eleven years ago)

and yes "spectrum" was the one i meant (altho i don't think he's actually married to crj, lol)

dyl, Sunday, 8 September 2013 17:24 (eleven years ago)

i dunno if it's any better than the Calvin Harris/Florence joint from earlier this year either.

Hint: It's not.

if we're bringing the calvin/florence track into this conversation, just have to say that the diplo + grandtheft remix of it is pretty sweet

josh, Monday, 9 September 2013 06:14 (eleven years ago)

so true it's like impossible to say anything about this song

flopson, Monday, 9 September 2013 06:22 (eleven years ago)

threadstarter hit and runs are lameness itself imho

alright i'll think of something to say tho

r|t|c, Monday, 9 September 2013 07:48 (eleven years ago)

i think what with the edm steez slightly on the wane in the public consciousness this year 'clarity' does a cute thing in the way it fakes out the obnoxious stadium dance monster drop bacchanalia - it builds to climax with all the live crowd handclap efx, bracing pause etc but in the end the explosive release never quite comes, supplanted unexpectedly and not unpleasantly by a sort of slightly muted, blissed-out ambient frayed circuit glide on the thermals of crowd singalong turned choral support (of these producers zedd has possibly the best melodic sense). it's like using space shuttle rocket boosters to launch a paper plane

the terribly entertaining tiesto mix (also the style of eye mix, to a lesser degree) works as a good counterpoint/bad cop to the og by throwing out all this pleasantry entirely and abruptly interposing a robot insect invasion doom march far beyond the usual expectations of edm mayhem. and then returns to the chorus like nothing happened and it was all some apocalyptic premonition on a sunny day, making you feel like sarah connor gripping the chain link fence in terminator 2

ok i think i'm done

even the song is like "YOU ARE THE THREAD ABOUT ME, I THINK I DIDN'T NEEEEEED"

This song joins the growing number of tunes that I have been introduced to by my 9-yr-old son. He asked me to download it for him about a month ago (I make him pay the iTunes freight out of his allowance). I had never heard of it and I don't know where he heard it -- on YouTube, I guess. Anyway, I thought it was pleasant enough and very much in mode of all the David Guetta stuff he likes, but I had no idea it was a big hit until we were in New York last week and I kept hearing it everywhere.

The chorus makes no sense at all, and "Clarity" sounds more like a hygiene product than a love song. But it's catchy and it has a nice shiny gallop to it.

LOATHE THIS SONG SO MUCH. Yell yell yell yell blah blah "climax" plop.

r|t|c, Monday, 9 September 2013 15:52 (eleven years ago)

It's totally the stentorian tone that makes this, yeah? Or at least makes the vocals.

this song is the musical equivalent of one of those post-twilight teen paranormal romance books

is there a catalog of songs that use three syllable clarity/tragedy/remedy/sanity rhymes? i feel like this is a thing.

this is sorta like an evanesence edm single

J0rdan S., Monday, 9 September 2013 16:40 (eleven years ago)

i feel like it represents some kind of apex of eurodance in the u.s. that we have a top 10 by a non-american producer and a non-american singer, neither of which have had a hit here before.

does 'foxes' have any good solo tracks? i love her guest spot on the fall out boy album.

Here's his new single with Hayley Williams
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMQCH2rCAew

I don't love the new song but I do like this guy. He has an ear for happy, inclusive drops, and demonstrates an impressive attention to detail even on big, obvious pop songs where the detail isn't necessary.

Evan R, Friday, 13 September 2013 19:48 (eleven years ago)

He's also a primary producer on Lady Gaga's upcoming album, which seems like a very smart pairing
