Which is the best solo Curtis LP? Pretty easy to predict which will end up in the top three. My number one's gonna end up at 7, I just know it.

Curtis

It has to be Curtis which is one of my 15 favourite albums of all time. Also really love There's No Place Like America Today, Super Fly, Roots and Back to the World. Short Eyes is a really underrated album too.

I'd say his run of albums in the 70's is as good as or possibly even better than Stevie Wonders.

I know it's not Sweet Exorcist but man the first thing I think when I see this is "I really love Sweet Exorcist"

the horns on No Place Like America & esp on So In Love are just so incredible though

Curtis/Live! is pretty great, something about that record is perfect, just a great overall vibe between the players & audience. one of my fave live albums.

I might be wrong about my fave ending up at no. 7. That's cool.

I find it nigh on impossible to pick between the first three - all astoundingly great.

curtis obvs but i'm going to be challopsy and choose back to the world

everything from 1978 on is terminally bland IMO

if superfly was an EP that'd win

I actually have a lot of time for the last one. I like roots a lot. knowing his ~greatest hits~ & then hearing things like beautiful brother of mine was really mind-expanding for me. even just hearing the long version of move on up. like why is there a short version of move on up when everything they cut out is the long version of move on up.

Honesty and Something to Believe In are good and came out after 1978.

Forgot to vote in this! Only one vote for "Back to the World" :(

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Sunday, 22 September 2013 12:48 (eleven years ago)

I voted for America Today, but it's an extremely hard choice. I would probably vote differently today if the poll were still open. And then change my mind tomorrow. Truly one of the all time greats, he was.
