hmm..

wasn't 4/25 male fronted and (many) female backed? I never heard the song but remember the (awful) photo.

Mark G, Sunday, 8 September 2013 21:21 (eleven years ago)

This is cool, but as us Midwesterners say, no Scrawl, no credibility.

Shart Week (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 8 September 2013 21:23 (eleven years ago)

Female-led punk (preferably right in the grey zone between punk and power-pop) has been my favourite sound for the past five years or so, so thanks for pointing this out--already on disc two. (Scrawl should be on there, yes.)

clemenza, Sunday, 8 September 2013 21:24 (eleven years ago)

Excellent comp, btw.

Mark G, Sunday, 8 September 2013 21:27 (eleven years ago)

Not four discs, but 12. This will be like a major project getting it all downloaded, tagged, and burned.

When I saw the thread title, I rolled my eyes and expected something shitty. When I saw who started the thread, my interest was piqued. When I saw the mammoth list with d/l links, I just about came in my pants.

Just in case anyone was interested, like.

emil.y, Sunday, 8 September 2013 21:36 (eleven years ago)

I haven't waded through all 12 songlists, but I hope the Chefs' "Food" (1979) is somewhere on here.

clemenza, Sunday, 8 September 2013 21:39 (eleven years ago)

this has been around for several years -- it's pretty grebt

xp the chefs are not represented

mookieproof, Sunday, 8 September 2013 21:40 (eleven years ago)

i don't actually download stuff but i thought other people might dig it. if they hadn't seen it/known of it.

scott seward, Sunday, 8 September 2013 21:53 (eleven years ago)

someone posted this on fb earlier -- really excited to hear the non-English/U.S. stuff

not some dude poking a Line 6 pedal with his dick (sarahell), Sunday, 8 September 2013 21:58 (eleven years ago)

7.8 hours!

flamboyant goon tie included, Sunday, 8 September 2013 22:06 (eleven years ago)

Yeah this has been going around for a bit, posted on here before too. Always good to see it again! There's an equally good metal one covering the same general period.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 8 September 2013 22:16 (eleven years ago)

Disc 7. I'm tired.

clemenza, Sunday, 8 September 2013 22:19 (eleven years ago)

What are a few tracks I should listen to in order to get a feel for this? I'm a little hesitant to download 12 CDs' worth of material right away.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 8 September 2013 22:35 (eleven years ago)

Hard for me to say, because 95% of it's new to me. But I know "Bored Housewives" from some old compilation I have:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnTKrnwhip8

Lots of X-Ray Spex and Avengers and Liliput you can sample on YouTube.

Desechables - El Asesino

Sick tune. Spanish group.

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Sunday, 8 September 2013 22:48 (eleven years ago)

i'm only familiar with about 5-10% of it, too, and it is pretty wide-ranging if the unknowns are comparable to the knowns -- some of it is poppy/new-wavey (e.g. Rezillos), but there are some Teenage Jesus and the Jerks tracks which are more no-wave/noise

not some dude poking a Line 6 pedal with his dick (sarahell), Sunday, 8 September 2013 22:49 (eleven years ago)

does Maria Tessa who runs/ran the Theoretical Girls list still post here?

not some dude poking a Line 6 pedal with his dick (sarahell), Sunday, 8 September 2013 22:50 (eleven years ago)

very occasionally

mookieproof, Sunday, 8 September 2013 22:51 (eleven years ago)

Are the tags all completely fucked?

wooden treeshjips (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 8 September 2013 22:55 (eleven years ago)

Oh, somehow, I was assuming that some people already knew the set. Bad assumption. I'll try those recommendations when I can. I like Teenage Jesus (and love Crass when the women were singing). Never got into any Kleenex/Liliput that I've heard.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 8 September 2013 23:01 (eleven years ago)

Disc 9 has Michaele Jordana & the Poles' "CN Tower," out of Toronto, and I also spotted Tyranna's "Back Off Baby" (not very good, from what I remember). That's pretty thorough. No Fifth Column, though, who would seem much more central to the story.

clemenza, Sunday, 8 September 2013 23:16 (eleven years ago)

someone sent me a link to this a couple of weeks ago, have been slowly working my way through it since. had completely forgotten about the Dog Faced Hermans track, taped it off John Peel 20-odd years ago a played it a lot at the time.

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Monday, 9 September 2013 00:25 (eleven years ago)

7.8 hours!

― flamboyant goon tie included, Sunday, September 8, 2013 6:06 PM

13.3 hours for all 12 discs. (#9 was really messed up for me--half the songs were defective. I was able to find it somewhere else, though.)
