Neither of the new songs is grabbing me much but I have high hopes nonetheless, yet to release a truly disappointing album.

There doesn't seem to be any hype at all for this. I'm looking forward to giving it a listen but for some reason my hopes aren't that high.

Have been playing In Ghost Colours a lot of the last couple of months. I wouldn't really change a single thing about that album. Still have a lot of time for Zonoscope but it's not in the same league.

I was worried when the band said the new album would be a tribute to the two "Summer of Love"s. The pesudo-psychedelic stuff on the last album was not its strong suit. That said, while "In Ghost Colours" is one of my all-time faves, the last one holds a lot of pleasant surprised when I put it on. I like the longer tracks, for one.

In Ghost Colours blew me away, probably my favorite of the decade looking back. The first listen to Zonoscope was a little underwhelming, but it grew on me big time. Now I love most of the songs. I'll probably wait for the official release to listen to FYM since I already have a massive backlog of albums I need to check out.

did people care enough either way to 'hate' zonoscope? it was just so easy to not care about in any way

I think the only sense that people "hated" Zonoscope was sort of the same way people "hated" "Republic." Sure, compared to "Technique" ...

The New Order comparison is a good one. In Ghost Colours really is a perfect album whereas Zonoscope is just a good one. It certainly didn't help that they released Where I'm Going as the lead single which is probably my least favourite song they've done. Need You Now, Pharaohs & Pyramids, Alisa and Hanging Onto Every Heartbeat are up there with the best songs on In Ghost Colours.

New one sounds really good so far. Kind of surprised they went with a winter release as it sounds like a great summer album to me.

I quite like the way he sings that. He's pretty good at his musical impressions on their opening songs (Andy Mccluskey on Need You Now, Brett Anderson on Feel the Love) Here he's just doing an excellent Bobby Gillespie one.

Really like this album a lot and probably prefer it to Zonoscope on the whole. They've kind of become one of my favourite bands around now.

Also saying Ghost Colours only had 3 good songs on it is crazy talk. There isn't a bad song on there, I checked just yesterday. Obviously it isn't as good as Technique (second best album ever made) but it sounds like a classic album to me, probably in my 67 albums ever or thereabouts.

Played this twice today. It's much better than Zonoscope, not quite as amazing as In Ghost Colours, but still pretty damn good. Can't wait to hear it again tomorrow.

Love this album now. Each play digs in deeper. The 90s techno references are exactly the point so yes, the 808 State, Orb and 92era rave/hardcore style samples are part of the charm. The lyrics contribute to that vibe.

Yeah but on the good Primal Scream records (including Screamadelica, which is the one that matters here) Bobby G's voice is fine. Cut Copy dude can actually hit a note and imitating the shit Bobby Gillespie is the worst kind of empty pastiche.

I listened to this last night and a lot of it felt almost too on-the-nose, a bit too "let's be euphoric now!" As far as Aussie throwbacks doing early 90s hedonism go, I think I prefer the Jagwar Ma album.

I'm always amazed at what the band does and does not play from its new album live. Last time it was "Blink and You'll Miss a Revolution." This time it's "Footsteps." I can't tell if it's a matter of not taking the easy road or simply not recognizing your strengths. Anyway, group was awesome as usual last night.

Hated Zonoscope immediately, this one is growing on me. If I can stop cycling endlessly through MIA and CREEP I will probably grow to love it.

I really can't see how anyone could hate "Zonoscope." I was listening to it yesterday and it was even better than I remembered, and tracks from that album really soared last night.

I should try again but my first impression of Zonoscope was that they removed all of the pop-mode Severed Heads pastiche that made me fall in love with the first album and replaced it with bags of shit

Yeah Where I'm Going is big bullshit but the rest is so good. Hanging Onto Every Heartbeat and Alisa are the two highlights for me.

Seeing them live for the first time next Wednesday. Should be a great gig as Classixx are supporting.

cut copy live has generally always been a v good time

haven't seen them since 2011, however

Cut Copy live are brilliant, saw them at Optimo around the time of In Ghost Colours and it was such a sweaty, euphoric vibe.

My friend saw them in London a couple of months ago and said it was like a big party. He also said there were a lot of Australians and he was surprised how old they looked.

I'm listening to Free Your Mind right now. Think this was one of last years most underrated albums.

I don't think I've seen them live since 2007, but they used to be really good!

These guys were so great live. I can't remember the last time I danced that much at a gig. The new stuff sounded really so good but the In Ghost Colours songs were the main highlights. I always thought Lights & Music was one of the lesser songs on there and could never understand why it was a single but it sounded like an anthem. Hearts on Fire sounded huge and got the best reaction of the night. They ended with Need You Now which was just perfect. Even Where I'm Going sounded good. My only complaint is they didn't do Far Away but apart from that it was just such a great atmosphere and a great night.

Did they play "Out There On The Ice"? That's the main song I really want to hear live from them.

Yes they did. It was one of many highlights.

They just a played by here last night week or so, at a fest. Heard they were great. Love the last three, lots.

They were so good when I saw them just over three years ago. It was like a big party. I hope they announce a new album soon, they're very consistent.

I wish the outro went on for longer. It sounds like it's building to something but fades out too early.

Could be an outlier, too, like "Where I'm Going."

And if not, I like the idea of Cut Copy cycling through various dance idioms. New Order, Summer of Love, Chicago house, now Chic ...

This album is just what I needed today. Love these guys so much.

"Standing in the Middle of a Field," which sounds like a synth-pop spin on early '80s Brian Eno.

Huh? Like, "On Land?" I don't get this. Anyway, super excited about this album, and surprised to learn that Astralwerks is still a label.

I've been re-listening to a ton of music the past two weeks, trying to put together my ILM EoY list. I have to admit I was initially let down by this album my first listen (I've adored everything by this band up to 2017, other than their debut album). But a few fresh listens recently I realize I was to harsh at first. I still think it's not one of their best albums, but I like most of it!

I think the reason this album fell through the cracks a bit is because it's very much a generic ideal of what a Cut Copy album sounds like. Which is no bad thing, but five albums in it comes with no surprises. Its definitely as good as anything they've ever done though.

Yeah, they can't all be the best Cut Copy album.

They'll never top In Ghost Colours which really is a perfect record for me, but I've found plenty to love on the last three as well. 2017 was a year when lots of my favourite artists put out good records that weren't up there with their very best. Cut Copy were definitely one of them. I've still gone back to Haiku From Zero a good amount and will be voting for it this week.

Seems a lot more melancholic and downbeat than previous efforts - might need a few listens as nothing really jumps out at first and there's certainly no bangers like Out There On The Ice here

I posted on a different Cut Copy thread that the entire album sounds like the underrated downbeat second side of an album everybody bought for the first three tracks on side one.

This seems to be the rolling Cut Copy thread. I played the new album Feaksout/Release over the weekend and it was decent. Not really a fan of the lead single but liked the album. First time have checked out something new by them and will revisit at some point this year.
