Trick thread as it's clearly Crystal Blue Persuasion, but ymmv
Also there's no way we don't already have a thread for this, so mods feel free to delete this but I couldn't find one

if the question is best use of a song in the show, my vote is for "negro y azul: the ballad of heisenberg."

I'm really fond of the use of DLZ, although I love that song anyway.

Out of curiosity, what was it? (Won't be seeing the ep for awhile)
― A Made Man In The Mellow Mafia (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 30 September 2013 02:24 (twelve years ago)
Since it's the last piece of music in the entire series, and a sort of climax to it, I'm reluctant to say. But I never would have expected it, and it was beautiful.

Yes, the last song was great!

el paso was really just wonderful in the last ep, hard to believe they didn't use the song in a prior ep. my brother also just gave me a stack of records last week and when i finished the last episode last night i walked out into my living room and a marty robbins record w/ el paso on it happened to be on top of the stack

What was the sort of epic easy listening number used in one of the cooking montages in S5? Something about seeing for miles? Great track.

Nah, totally different sound, very orchestral. Roughly the same era though I'd guess.

the most memorable song for me, is 'horse with no name'. vaguely recall ww getting in his shitty car and driving along singing either before or after doing something particularly gruesome.

Monkees' "Goin' Down" sequence was pretty epic.

little too on the nose but i thought it was great. there was also something just really sad during that sequence that made it work, walt's dream of an empire finally coming true but it's all just so pointless

I can never know for sure how "Baby Blue" would have hit me if I hadn't known it was coming (and having looked at the clip five years before I ever started the series), but chances are I'd be ranking it alongside anything I'd ever encountered in a movie or TV show. Minus the element of surprise, I'll bump it down to third for Breaking Bad's run. "Crystal Blue Persuasion," second--perfect in every way, including the fact that it actually is about Tommy James' early involvement with crystal meth (the song's Wikipedia entry provides a couple of readings of the song, and doesn't say definitively which one's accurate). I'll got with "Windy" as #1. Came out of nowhere--virtually all music up to that point had been new(-er) stuff that worked fine but was anonymous to me (there were a couple of low-volume minutes of "Green Grass and High Tides" in a bar in one episode)--and floored me.

The video of Gale doing karaoke to 'Major Tom' showed a level of obsession that delighted me.
― campreverb, Friday, 1 June 2018 14:24 (seven years ago)
I enjoyed the pure period camp of that too. (And I should have mentioned "A Horse with No Name." When I was madly speculating on what would be the final Mad Men song, "A Horse with No Name" was one of my 10 picks. If I'd known Breaking Bad had already laid claim to it--I think directors try to avoid using songs that have already been used memorably elsewhere--I would have substituted something else.)

Reminds me I need to start a "songs that were in different movies at roughly the same time" thread one of these days.
Back to BB: I never necessarily thought of it as a great music show, but one needledrop I dug was the Pretenders: "Boots of Chinese Plastic" playing over Walt smashing up Walt Jr's Challenger.

songs that were in different movies at roughly the same time
Very intrigued--I keep track of this stuff pretty closely, and I'm drawing a blank.
