Their 5 biggest hits would be a good poll.

You know all of these, and thanks to Breaking Bad one of 'em is recharting. But which one would you point your bad finger at?

Still have to go with Baby Blue.

The normative power of the factual (Michael White), Thursday, 10 October 2013 17:22 (twelve years ago)

No Matter What by a very thin margin. Although if this was the band's version of Without You, I'd vote for that.

My question is primarily riparian (Phil D.), Thursday, 10 October 2013 17:54 (twelve years ago)

"Day After Day." Don't think I've ever heard "Without You," and wasn't even aware it was their song until very recently.

'Day After Day'.

My favourite Badfinger song is 'We're For The Dark', though.

Voted "Day After Day", and I'm still not sure I've heard much from their post-Apple years.

"no matter what"

incredible vocal

brimstead, Friday, 11 October 2013 00:25 (twelve years ago)

"No Matter What" edging out "Day After Day" edging out "Baby Blue."

Gallucci Time (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 11 October 2013 01:31 (twelve years ago)

Feel like someone should do a Badfinger vs. Raspberries poll, but maybe it's too soon.

Baby Blue vs Go All The Way.

Day After Day. Such a beautiful song. But if Just A Chance was eligible...

kornrulez6969, Friday, 11 October 2013 04:13 (twelve years ago)

Run hot and cold on "Come And Get It." Sometimes I like it and sometimes it feels like a McCartney throwaway.

Gallucci Time (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 11 October 2013 04:21 (twelve years ago)

Most of the stuff on "McCartney" are throwaways. It prolly would've fit on there just fine.

billstevejim, Sunday, 13 October 2013 06:53 (twelve years ago)

Raspberries' signature song as "Go All The Way" seems a lot more obvious than choosing one for Badfinger.

We can do a Goldfinger poll after this....

Lee626, Sunday, 13 October 2013 09:30 (twelve years ago)

aka TS: day after day vs baby blue

This. Baby Blue is more emotionally resonant for me ("the special love I had for you" line aches) but Day After Day is is just glorious on too many levels to ignore.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

I'm sure I knew "Baby Blue" before I knew "It's all over now Baby Blue"

Called it, just about.

nine years pass...

Heard "The Name of the Game" at Publix. Should've been a single.

Day After Day, My Sweet Lord, Photograph, It Don't Come Easy--the mood of these George productions is just captivating

Hideous Lump, Tuesday, 5 September 2023 21:35 (two years ago)

Throw in Billy Preston's "That's the Way God Planned It." Harrison really should've been a Todd Rundgren, producing artists as a sideline well into his thirties. Too bad he didn't give a shit about contemporary music.

the dreaded dependent claus (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 5 September 2023 21:44 (two years ago)

Or anybody else really.

Harrison doesn’t really deserve the “Day After Day” producing credit – or at least, the sole credit. The song was a shambles when Harrison left the session and Rundgren did a ton of work with Pete Hamm on the guitars to get it to where it ended up (IIRC there is even some debate as to whether Harrison is actually even playing slide on that solo bridge but I think that’s BS). But since it was Harrison and it was Apple Rundgren got bumped and that was that.

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 5 September 2023 23:07 (two years ago)

Also, Photograph is Richard Perry.

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 5 September 2023 23:12 (two years ago)

By all accounts, though, it's pretty similar to the Starr-Harrison demo, though, which is why I let the mention slide.

the dreaded dependent claus (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 5 September 2023 23:21 (two years ago)

I'm not really a fan, but the above is enough to make me wish that Greatest Hits EP's were actually a thing. (I was never able to enjoy their LP or CD-length compilations in their entirety.)

birdistheword, Tuesday, 5 September 2023 23:51 (two years ago)

The problem as a fan is that 1) they never had a great record top to bottom, 2) there’s no comp that has both their best Apple and Warner Brothers material so each is filled out with subpar material and 3) the records and comps both feature too many songs written by the guy who was their worst songwriter, who not so coincidentally happens to be the only band member still alive.

Naive Teen Idol, Wednesday, 6 September 2023 02:03 (two years ago)

I think Molland is a better singer/songwriter than Evans, though of course Ham's songs are the standouts, and agree that they really didn't connect more than two or three times on each album.

Halfway there but for you, Wednesday, 6 September 2023 23:24 (two years ago)

He's definitely a better songwriter than Mike Gibbins!
