Being semi-serious, I think "Saturday Night" = 1 ov thee best singles ever, but "Shiny Disco Balls" is kind of irritating, & I don't know why. Perhaps it will gr0w on me, but so far, it still makes my ass drag

Never heard "Shiny Disco Balls", but Whigfield (alongside others) are to blame for my difficulties in appreciating the beauty of electronic music. That fuckin' "Saturday Night" tune annoyed the hell out of me. Then again, I never saw what the chick looked like, and I must admit she's quite dreamy.

Also she is another reason for Chris Jarvis' godlike status among kids' telly presenters - he was doing some quiz show on CITV a few years ago, think it was called Look Smart! or somesuch, and it had a phone-in bit where the kiddies had to figure out the name of a pop act from visual clues. One week it was Whigfield, and the clues were a wig and a field.

Chris: "So, what do you think the answer is?"

Caller: "Uhhhh....a wig and a field?"

Chris: "Close enough!"

and she won the prize, which was a watch, or possibly a clock.

As for the actual question - not a clue.

Whigfield and Who Da Funk, hmm let me guess, you picked two consecutive tracks from an alphabetized list?

Not really comparable, other than they're both "danceable singles" released within ten years from each other...anyway, "Saturday Night" was at least the best Whigfield track. "Last Christmas" was just embarrassing...

And "Shiny Disco Balls" is great of course. Not earthshattering, but as far as "disco-loop house" goes one of the better 12"s from this year.

Haha, what made me think ov thee komparison was that the DJ was saying that "Shiny Disco Balls" has this special little dance that goes with it, and I remember the same being the case for "Saturday Night". I don't remember Whigfield's "Last Christmas", I do remember the one that went "I can't stand another day with you", which was a near carbon copy of "Saturday Night". In the car home tonight, I heard judge jul3s playing this different cut ov SDB, which was a bit meatier, and the beats didn't plod so much. I still thought it was a bit ass tho'. I don't think there's enough there. "Saturday Night" OTOH, although it didn't have that much more going on, was a produckt ov thee italo-piano house industry and thus r00l3d (proven by science)

Yeah, because of its repetitiveness and somewhat thin production, I doubt that "Shiny Disco Balls" will ever hit the singles charts, at least not with the current mixes. I've heard the track played in a club setting on two occasions last month, and it worked rather well though.

SDB is already B-List at Radio 1. Creeps into top 40, possibly...

I'd imagine the dance is a private joke or something, Shiny Disco Balls is quite trendy I'd have thought. I think it's excellent, and contrary to what's been said here I think it's pretty fresh sounding too, the drums are a little like French Kiss, and instead of one massive climax you have a series of mini controlled disco explosions, it really kicks off. It's also a good example of electro influencing house a bit, Jessica Eve's vocals mainly.
