Should have included the BBC sessions in the options imo.
Voted "So Far" cuz it works really well on mix tapes.

what else could have happened to us?

I feel like I shouldn't vote for "Jennifer"; but that song doesn't leave my brain, and I'm drunk, so here goes.

J'ai mai aux dents

billstevejim, Thursday, 31 October 2013 06:14 (eleven years ago)

I'm confused about which song is "lieber herr deutchland." I feel like it's possibly listed here under a different title, but also it could be titled incorrectly on my cd.

billstevejim, Thursday, 31 October 2013 06:20 (eleven years ago)

If it's the song I'm thinking of (with double-tracked german or french monologue) it might be my favorite faust jam.

billstevejim, Thursday, 31 October 2013 06:22 (eleven years ago)

Put on Your Socks

... This is "In the Spirit"? When did it get that title?

Thomas K Amphong (Tom D.), Thursday, 31 October 2013 08:48 (eleven years ago)

I believe that's "Chère Chambre" (xp)

Thomas K Amphong (Tom D.), Thursday, 31 October 2013 08:49 (eleven years ago)

Torn between Sunshine Girl, No Harm, Krautrock, J'ai Mal Aux Dents. Others are also great obviously.

That's the right title. It's from the 71 Minutes album (compilation?). All of the songs off this record are missing, it was apparently released in 1979 but I don't understand if it was an official release or only added for the Wumme Years set. It was definitely recorded in the 70s.

Moka, Thursday, 31 October 2013 09:05 (eleven years ago)

I think I get it now. 71 minutes is a compilation that uses material from the unreleased Faust V as well as their two Faust Party singles (where 'lieber herr deutschland' was originally released) as well as a few unreleased songs.

All of that material ought to be in this poll since they were recorded and released in the 70s in one form or another, but since they're very esoteric releases I'll give it a pass.

Moka, Thursday, 31 October 2013 09:13 (eleven years ago)

Here's the full discography. Apparently they also did some collaboration with Slap Happy and Tony Conrad in the 70s which I have never heard.

Wasn't 71 Minutes originally released several years later as Munich & Elsewhere? Plus another volume since the vinyl version was presumably about 40 minutes long.

Stevolende, Thursday, 31 October 2013 09:30 (eleven years ago)

THat is to say that 71 Minutes of = Munich & Elsewhere plus the Last lp. Not sure what came out in '79 since the recording would have been several years later. Trying to think when These or reccommended would have compiled that to cd was there a wider release of individual lps before the Wumme box?

Wish they'd reissue the Tony Conrad set since I missed the anniversary edition. Isn't it 40 this year?

Stevolende, Thursday, 31 October 2013 09:35 (eleven years ago)

I bought Munic & Elsewhere (white vinyl, natch) on a trip to London in 1985/1986, it had just been released, that was before 71 Minutes? Recommended released some singles with unreleased Faust material on it - that might have been 1979

"Rock Off!"

Mark G, Thursday, 31 October 2013 10:31 (eleven years ago)

I think I kept typing later and meaning earlier earlier. So when I say that 71 minutes of 's recordings must have been years later I actually mean earlier. Think the band were pretty much split by 75/76 weren't they?

& think I only made the 2nd post because I noticed I'd said something about later in the first one.

Don't think there was a band in '79.

Not sure when the These vinyl reissues came out. Also not sure what I had, think on reflection I had the opportunity to buy the These reissues of the 1st 2 lps which I actually had reserved in the Recommended shop when the originals appeared complete with inserts in my local 2nd hand place. So went with the ones that I didn't have to trek half way across London for. THink they weren't that much more expensive too, paid something like £25 for the pair in the late 80s.

Stevolende, Thursday, 31 October 2013 12:46 (eleven years ago)

Band had split by 75/76, but Recommended Records released unreleased material (as Faust Party Extracts?), I think as a 7" single/EP, which might have been 1979. I used to have an EP from Recommended which had like a 30 second piece by Faust, clear vinyl, one sided... with the Homosexuals AND R. Stevie Moore... I think I sat on it and broke it.

Thomas K Amphong (Tom D.), Thursday, 31 October 2013 12:54 (eleven years ago)

The Slap Happy thing was the first version of Casablanca moon which i think was deemed too uncommercial or something. Can't remember exactly what the story is there since uncommerciality was what a lotof people were aiming for around taht time wasn't it?

These or Recommended released the recordings in the mid 90s as Noom Acnalbasac or with the 2 words the other way around, anyway the title reversed or partially reversed. I got a copy soon after it came out, may still have a different copy around somewhere.

Figure when I was using later earlier it must have been referring to later than recorded.

"Jennifer"

J. Sam, Thursday, 31 October 2013 15:25 (eleven years ago)

Outside the Dream Syndicate (Tony Conrad w/ Faust) is fantastic but it's not really a Faust record.
It's not something I listen to very often but I'm really glad I have it.

Trip Maker, Thursday, 31 October 2013 15:33 (eleven years ago)

can't I just vote for faust tapes as one long song?

Apparently they also did some collaboration with Slap Happy and Tony Conrad in the 70s which I have never heard.

I mean you are participating in a Faust poll and you haven't heard Outside The Dream Syndicate? Not to be "that guy" but listen to this ASAP - it's foundational.

five months pass...

Should re-poll the zero vote tracks. What's worthy?

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Monday, 7 April 2014 23:55 (eleven years ago)

Chere Chambre! Such a beautiful song, and one of the best examples of Faust being the most versatile of all krautrock bands (and arguably of all rock bands, period).

plus the sad skinhead is great

Dominique, Tuesday, 8 April 2014 02:47 (eleven years ago)

This thread inspired me to check out Faust IV again. I've gotten 3 songs in, and it struck me how much 'The Sad Skinhead' and 'Jennifer' sound like R. Stevie Moore to me. Was R. Stevie a Krautrock fan? I know he liked Trans-Europe Express because he explicitly said so on one of his tapes.

'Spaniards and Spacemen' by Amon Duul II has a talking part that also sounds like R Stevie to me.

3×5, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 21:15 (eleven years ago)

RSM loves Faust! considers them of the greats

Dominique, Wednesday, 9 April 2014 21:17 (eleven years ago)

Interesting. Well, that explains it.
