I'm talking about this compilation on David Byrne's label. Has anyone heard this? It seems like a weird comp to release now -- the timing, I mean. Why now? And why these artists? Will this put German electronic music into the Starbucks rack?

2002: the year glitch broke.

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 12 October 2002 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

b-but what is glitch's 'Smells like...'? what's the glitch video being played once every hour on mTV.

it's just funny to me that 2002 is the year that the 1997-2000 mille plateaux/force-tracks aesthetic is finding/winding its way into all these odd places, especially since the music itself isn't "new" by any stretch. the "digital disco" thing is a bit more understandable, since the artists themselves are developing into more pop oriented acts, but pole?!

Does glitch ca 2002 actually sound the same as glitch ca 1997? Seems to me it's improving/expanding. I agree that this does seem odd and maybe even not "wantonly ahead of the curve", haha.

A.V. Alexandre (Keiko), Saturday, 12 October 2002 19:39 (twenty-three years ago)

well, i couldn't say. i havent bought a "hardcore glitch" record in two years or so. (unless endless summer counts.)

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 12 October 2002 19:41 (twenty-three years ago)

That's the idea! We've moved on to Glitch-Lite now! Endless Summer, clearly, is the bastardized Glitch-Lite Classick. Who's to say there couldn't be a more dilluted, more better classic in 2002? 2003? 2004? etc.

A.V. Alexandre (Keiko), Saturday, 12 October 2002 19:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Glitch Lite is probably a good next step.

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 14 October 2002 04:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes maybe to the extent of not having any glitch in it.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 14 October 2002 09:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom why do you hate mistakes?

Mitch Lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Monday, 14 October 2002 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Leaving your mistakes in is twee.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 14 October 2002 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

if its intentional its not a mistake

blueski, Monday, 14 October 2002 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

That's even twee-er though!

Tom (Groke), Monday, 14 October 2002 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

See I like this "Let's All Make Mistakes" stuff b/c then I don't have to worry so much about spelling, grammar, etc.

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 14 October 2002 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I heard Byrne interviewed by ? on NPR re: this comp. I kept waiting for it, but I don't believe the word "glitch" was ever spoken, so clearly this record is a NEW genre that Byrne has discovered/cultivated.

According to Mr. Byrne, this music is played on LAPTOPS.

Hunter (Hunter), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 04:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Get away!
