The Pastiche Liberation Front (sonnyboy), Monday, 11 November 2013 22:36 (eleven years ago)

"Can I Kick It?," one of the first rap songs I ever memorized.

YES YOU CAN

the late great, Monday, 11 November 2013 22:39 (eleven years ago)

"Can I Kick It?" also, not just because it was fabulous on record but because it was the greatest moment of all time at Lollapalooza in 1994

Euler, Monday, 11 November 2013 22:39 (eleven years ago)

some perfunctory stuff on here, and a load of clunky Phife rhymes, but man the highs are unfuckwithable. between Can I Kick It, Bonita Applebum and After Hours for me.

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 11 November 2013 22:41 (eleven years ago)

'bonita appelbum'

balls, Monday, 11 November 2013 22:42 (eleven years ago)

some perfunctory stuff on here

more noticeable now than twenty years ago but then I listen and go, "Piss off, it's fuckin' Tribe."

the objections to Drake from non-REAL HIPHOP people (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 11 November 2013 22:44 (eleven years ago)

I have often wondered if Tribe had ever been to El Segundo at the time of recording that tune, or if they just picked it at random off a map

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 11 November 2013 22:49 (eleven years ago)

i dunno, i don't think of this as having much filler, and so many all-time jams on this: "footprints", "after hours", "can i kick it", "description of a fool", "mr muhammad"

the late great, Monday, 11 November 2013 22:49 (eleven years ago)

although i admit i never really got into "el segundo"

the late great, Monday, 11 November 2013 22:50 (eleven years ago)

is Ham 'N' Eggs filler? because that's on steady rotation in Eulerland

Euler, Monday, 11 November 2013 22:51 (eleven years ago)

for me it will probably be down to "footprints" / "after hours" / "can i kick it"

the late great, Monday, 11 November 2013 22:52 (eleven years ago)

El Segundo was always referenced on 'Sanford & Son' I believe the story goes

always loved Rhythm for the way it uses the synth sample from the 12" remix of Pull Up To The Bumper.

piscesx, Tuesday, 12 November 2013 10:52 (eleven years ago)

I recently bought this on vinyl, having long cherished my CD copy, and was dismayed that Description Of A Fool wasn't on there. But I probs won't be picking that. Maybe After Hours or Lucien, but its all good.

The remix album that came out shortly after is ace for how it captures that brief moment when hip-hop was all about the reggae and the ragga.

Vic Arpeggio, Private Investigator (stevie), Tuesday, 12 November 2013 10:58 (eleven years ago)

Or Footprints, that track is killer. But probs After Hours, for the bit with all the frogs.

Voted Afterhours but really love the whole album, so many great little moments e.g. the goofy interjections at the end of the lines in Mr Muhammad

Missed the poll, love this album so much. Bought it in D.C., then moved to Minneapolis where kids were rapping "Can I Kick It" in the back of the bus.

Pete Scholtes, Monday, 18 November 2013 03:58 (eleven years ago)

Listened to this a lot during my flights out West for a project I was working on in El Segundo.
