Damn those colors are all wrong, anyways can't believe Texas voted for a Democratic President.

Bee OK, Thursday, 14 November 2013 02:24 (eleven years ago)

Dancing Queen
Blitzkrieg Bop
Anarchy in the U.K.

a fifth of misty beethoven (cryptosicko), Thursday, 14 November 2013 02:50 (eleven years ago)

yeah, that map's a trip: the last time Mass., NY, Texas and Georgia voted for the same presidential candidate. oh, vote Junior Murvin

col, Thursday, 14 November 2013 02:58 (eleven years ago)

(well, except for '84, when Reagan won everything)

col, Thursday, 14 November 2013 02:59 (eleven years ago)

Really torn between "Sir Duke" and "Final Solution."

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 14 November 2013 03:08 (eleven years ago)

torn between Bob and Rod and Boz. probably the least cool three-way tie ever.

g simmel, Thursday, 14 November 2013 03:23 (eleven years ago)

REAPER

CANONICAL artists, etc., etc. (contenderizer), Thursday, 14 November 2013 03:30 (eleven years ago)

"Final Solution" over the craziest 2nd place tie I can think of: Saints/Damned/F.Mac

He got...JACKED UP!!!!! (WilliamC), Thursday, 14 November 2013 03:35 (eleven years ago)

Actually I wish I'd voted "New Rose" and put Ubu into the 3-way tie

He got...JACKED UP!!!!! (WilliamC), Thursday, 14 November 2013 03:37 (eleven years ago)

#1 was easy, but another ridiculously great year overall:

Cherry Bomb
Final Solution
Shake Some Action
Hotel California
Sir Duke
Dancing Queen / Knowing Me, Knowing You
Blitzkrieg Bop
New Rose
(I'm) Stranded
Go Your Own Way
Disco Inferno
The Boys Are Back in Town
Detroit Rock City
American Girl
Police and Thieves
Fly Like and Eagle / Take the Money and Run
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

(i'm sure that most of the reggae picks are great, too, but i'm not a fan, so i can't say)

CANONICAL artists, etc., etc. (contenderizer), Thursday, 14 November 2013 03:42 (eleven years ago)

overdosed on most of the big obvious classics on this list. meanwhile, I have a soft spot for Seger and Stewart (and these are their craftiest pop hits) but Lowdown is pure bliss so I went with that.

g simmel, Thursday, 14 November 2013 03:51 (eleven years ago)

Shake Some Action.

Aerosmith Rocks wuz robbed!

kornrulez6969, Thursday, 14 November 2013 03:54 (eleven years ago)

"Love Hangover" is almost sure to be in my top 3 for the disco poll, and it gets my vote here, ahead of "Sir Duke," "Fly Like an Eagle" and "Lowdown."

had to fix that

Bee OK, Thursday, 14 November 2013 04:20 (eleven years ago)

same dilemma as get bent, but voted "final solution" since i figure "go your own way" will prob get a lot of votes anyway.

i'm normally a stan for stewart but "tonight's the night" is a pretty creepy song.

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Thursday, 14 November 2013 04:41 (eleven years ago)

Polls overflowing with quality - like this one - are just begging for a different voting system. Too bad everyone doesn't get 3 choices. I'm pretty sure the results would be different. I'd throw a vote to something like Cherry Bomb or Two Sevens Clash, something I wouldn't do with just 1 vote. With my 1 meager vote, I'll go Fleetwood Mac over Boz and Flamin' Groovies.

that's not my post, Thursday, 14 November 2013 06:44 (eleven years ago)

Songs are amazing, but so are election results. Last time South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, or Texas voted Democrat.

Dancing Queen.

Josefa, Thursday, 14 November 2013 07:27 (eleven years ago)

Police and Thieves

paolo, Thursday, 14 November 2013 08:49 (eleven years ago)

1. "Anarchy in the U.K.," 2. "Shake Some Action," 3. "New Rose," 4. "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," 5. "Love Hangover." Wish "King of the Night Time World" were on there instead of "Detroit Rock City." I was there! (BOC and Artful Dodger opening...)

Could easily vote for either of the ABBA songs, esp. "Knowing Me, Knowing You," but anytime I have a chance to vote for "Sir Duke," I do.

Yeah, many people have been saying that for years. I get the impression it's hard enough just keeping the board going let alone doing actual development. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken...

Anyway, I went with the Pistols though there's a great argument for Flaming Groovies, Damned, Nick Lowe, Saints, Pere Ubu and - if I'm being honest - Abba, whose hits are really undeniable even to a crusty punk like me.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 14 November 2013 14:37 (eleven years ago)

Have to go with "Sir Duke." It's my earliest memory of hearing a song on the radio and thinking, "Hey, I really like this."

And holy shit, it was released six months after Songs In The Key Of Life, which presumably everyone already owned a copy of by then.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 14 November 2013 14:39 (eleven years ago)

Not quite as stellar as 77. I'm giving it to Max Romeo cos I fear no one else will.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Thursday, 14 November 2013 14:53 (eleven years ago)

Edmund Fitzgerald >>>>>>>>>> every other song on here but Sir Duke would be my #2

frogbs, Thursday, 14 November 2013 14:56 (eleven years ago)

Surprising absence of "Tear The Roof Off The Sucker" (possibly considered '75?) only makes this one a tiny bit less difficult. "Young Hearts Run Free" evokes memories of '76 for me personally more than any other track here, so it gets my vote. But really there's nothing here I dislike - even the Eagles are bearable.

Wonder why that one tiny strip of Washington fell so hard for Reagan.

Sir Lord Baltimora (Myonga Vön Bontee), Thursday, 14 November 2013 15:50 (eleven years ago)

"Tear The Roof Off The Sucker" (possibly considered '75?)

yeap, it will be on next week poll.

Bee OK, Friday, 15 November 2013 02:17 (eleven years ago)

Quickly voted for Fleetwood Mac, but a shout out to the Manhattans for a perfect R&B crossover. The spoken word opening is worth revisiting.

jetfan, Friday, 15 November 2013 05:54 (eleven years ago)

i have only narrowed this down to Disco songs.

I'm looking at that electoral map...Was it the five Great Lakes that voted for Reagan, or am I missing something?

clemenza, Saturday, 16 November 2013 13:14 (eleven years ago)

reagan picked up some rogue electors

balls, Saturday, 16 November 2013 18:01 (eleven years ago)

Ford first faced serious opposition from within his own party, when he was challenged for the Republican Party's nomination by former California governor Ronald Reagan. The race was so close that Ford was not able to secure the nomination until the Party Convention.

Ronald Reagan received an electoral vote from a "faithless elector" in Washington State.

Sir Duke, because the world stood still when I first heard it coming out of a ghettoblaster held by a guy passing my school. But the Damned, Pistols and Culture are pretty unfuckwithable.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 19 November 2013 02:10 (eleven years ago)

This is nothing to do with the poll, but re. faithless electors, I know rogue electoral vote for Reagan made no difference to the eventual result, but did the elector know this would be the case when they cast the vote? I know the 76 election was relatively tight, but did they know that Ford had already lost before they voted for Reagan?

soref, Tuesday, 19 November 2013 10:07 (eleven years ago)

I know the rogue electoral vote for Reagan

soref, Tuesday, 19 November 2013 10:08 (eleven years ago)

Electors don't cast their votes until weeks after Election Day, no?
