Has anyone at Modular or involved with the group come out with the annual "It's definitely going to be released next year" quote yet?

one year passes...

Fake or not?

I hope it is, at least.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 21:07 (ten years ago)

Ha! The guy who made the song wrote a funny tweet about it.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 21:09 (ten years ago)

jesse @yaperwave
you don't now disappointment until you think you're about to hear a new avalanches track and you hit play and hear one of your shitty songs
10:55 AM - 14 Jan 2015

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 21:10 (ten years ago)

this is good. been wondering who's making fun sample-based music recently.

(would be very happy if someone made fun of me for ignoring artists X, Y and Z here)

the most painstaking, humorless people in the world (lukas), Wednesday, 14 January 2015 21:29 (ten years ago)

I kinda wish they never release the follow-up and it becomes a meme for upcoming releases every year for the next 100 years.

Moka, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 21:32 (ten years ago)

When I was listening to the track on soundcloud this morning, my heart was sinking. Partly because it's probably what any new Avalanches material will resemble and partly because I don't think I want to hear Since I Left You pt. II

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 21:34 (ten years ago)

good news!

you never will

This album is fucking GREAT! Can't stop playing it. Album of the year.

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 21 October 2016 20:31 (eight years ago)

it's too cold for it now, I have put it in hibernation

ogmor, Friday, 21 October 2016 21:10 (eight years ago)

I can't hang with the vocals on this record at all... otherwise it's quite nice

brimstead, Friday, 21 October 2016 21:41 (eight years ago)

Using rappers was a bad move – destroys the entire spell of timelessness.

And Frankie Sinatra should be buried halfway through the record, not track three.

Other than that I love it.

can't wait to hear it 20 years from now!

davey, Friday, 9 February 2018 09:25 (seven years ago)

"There’s people we’re writing with as we speak, one person mainly. Songs are being developed with the artists attached as we go from the ground up, which is really cool—I can’t talk too much about that though. I’m excited and I’m pretty sure a record will come pretty quickly, but I’ve been wrong about that before."

Haribo Hancock (sic), Friday, 9 February 2018 09:49 (seven years ago)

Kind of interesting how different "Wild Flower" looked (and judging from the tracklisting, sounded) 18 months or so before it finally got released:

Ugh Frankie Sinatra was such a terrible lead single.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 13 February 2018 10:22 (seven years ago)

honestly i don't get why frankie sinatra is so... polarizing

i mean i can get it's got elements in it that might be on the grating side for some people and i can see how it'd leave some undersatisfied impressions in the "this is meant to be the flag-bearer for the follow-up to SILY?"

but it grew on me, especially the whole " 1 bar pause - couple bars from DOOM - another one bar pause - rest of his verse", which imo is the kinda thing that would've fit snugly into SILY II (which let's be real, we shouldn't have expected from a shrunken lineup 16 years later that might not be able to get away with that degree of sampling this time round

on that kind of note, any thoughts on the deluxe reissue they've been talking about since 2011?

Tomorrow, July 22nd, two new songs will be released, to you, for you, by us. We made them with some very special friends.

‘Wherever You Go’ & ‘Reflecting Light’ will be released
together, with artwork and visuals by the amazing @JonathanZawada

(ft. Sananda Maitreya & Vashti Bunyan)

what?!

geoffreyess, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 15:22 (four years ago)

agree w/ Simon. something's missing?

calstars, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 15:32 (four years ago)

also 'running red lights' was fine the first time but I have no need to ever hear it again.

calstars, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 15:33 (four years ago)

yep

the whole vibe of the current incarnation just sounds crowded-but-empty to me

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 15:35 (four years ago)

when your medium is "sample collage", diminishing returns are almost inevitable.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 16:01 (four years ago)

the gee-whiz vibe is more of a dealbreaker for me than the reliance on samples tbh

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Wednesday, 22 July 2020 16:07 (four years ago)

ymmv obviously but I think we could use some gee-whiz right now

these two new songs are pretty boring but not actively dreadful like "running red lights"

ufo, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 21:24 (four years ago)

Will this album have another “Saturday night inside out?” Is my only question cause that song is GREAT

calstars, Wednesday, 22 July 2020 22:23 (four years ago)

xp they're sorta what I would expect from SPECIAL ALL STAR GUEST TRACKS

I remember them playing in New York at SOBs in 2001 or 2002 with six turntables – I think I had a poster for the show, though who knows what happened to it!
