Can I go my own way?

nostormo, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:21 (twelve years ago)

challop: future days is the best can album

noodle vague just ignore threads you don't like

the late great, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:25 (twelve years ago)

heh that's actually one of my prized challops

flopson, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:25 (twelve years ago)

recently i stepped it up and said flow motion was the best. that's bordering on disingenuous tho

flopson, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:26 (twelve years ago)

you firestarter

mh, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:27 (twelve years ago)

Not so much of a challop from where I stand (re future days)

nostormo, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:28 (twelve years ago)

yeah i always thought best can album was widely believed to be future, tago, or ege.

i love flow motion

mizzell, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:55 (twelve years ago)

Future and Tago have outstanding songs in them. But Future has no fillers. So Future.

nostormo, Friday, 22 November 2013 21:06 (twelve years ago)

gonna have to think this one over for a bit

Ornate Coleman (Moodles), Friday, 22 November 2013 21:07 (twelve years ago)

i never listen to fd because "bel air" bores me.

fit and working again, Friday, 22 November 2013 21:19 (twelve years ago)

Why? Because it's a bit proggy? A little symphonic?
It's the fastest 20 minutes song ever imo

nostormo, Friday, 22 November 2013 21:21 (twelve years ago)

"bel air" is so good

tylerw, Friday, 22 November 2013 21:22 (twelve years ago)

OTM
Almost as good as the will smith show

nostormo, Friday, 22 November 2013 21:24 (twelve years ago)

well let's not go crazy

tylerw, Friday, 22 November 2013 21:26 (twelve years ago)

Future Days is the best and Soon Over Babaluma is the second best, but I haven't heard Flow Motion which sounds like it could well be the next-best.

Frederik B, Friday, 22 November 2013 21:27 (twelve years ago)

xps i dunno, it's not terrible but it just doesn't do it for me. it starts nicely enough, gets into a groove and then doesn't do much that engages me. then it peters out and starts all over again, not doing much different the second time around.

fit and working again, Friday, 22 November 2013 21:34 (twelve years ago)

Aumgn and peking o are the ones who make the biggest difference

nostormo, Saturday, 23 November 2013 21:29 (twelve years ago)

yeah i always thought best can album was widely believed to be future, tago, or ege.

BEST CAN ALBUM!
CAN you pick only one?: The CAN albums poll

fit and working again, Saturday, 23 November 2013 22:15 (twelve years ago)

flow motion shutout twice

mizzell, Saturday, 23 November 2013 22:43 (twelve years ago)

Interesting to see that a handful of Can cds have recently turned up in the local mainstream cd shop. NOt sure if any of them have sold or if they're just one off remainders or something. Could just tie in with the vinyl set being released meaning they're appearing in trade zines or something.
But would be good if they do sell.

Never know how obscure anything I'm into is since I don't really know that many people who I'd talk about music with who wouldn't be aware of quite a bit of stuff anyway. & I assume that by now the band has been talked about for years and most of their material has been available for the last couple of decades hasn't it? On cd in some form at least.

Stevolende, Saturday, 23 November 2013 22:45 (twelve years ago)

I'm with the Future is the best Can crowd.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 23 November 2013 22:53 (twelve years ago)

Tago Mago. Future Days is too smooth, not weird enough, though it is of course great.

I like to think I have learnt a thing or two about music (Neil S), Saturday, 23 November 2013 23:07 (twelve years ago)

Tago is too improvised, not focused enough, though it is of course great.

nostormo, Saturday, 23 November 2013 23:13 (twelve years ago)

basically it comes down to preferring "rock" Can over "electronic" Can or vice versa.

nostormo, Saturday, 23 November 2013 23:16 (twelve years ago)

Future Days

dan selzer, Saturday, 23 November 2013 23:20 (twelve years ago)

Tago is too improvised

don't get this at all. how is it any more improvised than fd?

fit and working again, Saturday, 23 November 2013 23:47 (twelve years ago)

basically it comes down to preferring "rock" Can over "electronic" Can or vice versa.

which album is "rock" and which "electronic"?

fit and working again, Saturday, 23 November 2013 23:52 (twelve years ago)

"jazz" can

the late great, Saturday, 23 November 2013 23:57 (twelve years ago)

A side of fd and first lp of tm both utterly sterling.

Pressgang Wolf (Jon Lewis), Sunday, 24 November 2013 00:04 (twelve years ago)

I go with whichever has "Halleluwah," and if I need a tiebreaker, "Paperhouse" or "Mushroom."

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Sunday, 24 November 2013 02:50 (twelve years ago)

Much as I love both, Tago was kind of a life-changer. It was my link from 70s prog to the avant-rock set.

jmm, Sunday, 24 November 2013 04:58 (twelve years ago)

I was listening to "Spray" when I opened this thread, so FD

Jimmywine Dyspeptic, Sunday, 24 November 2013 05:44 (twelve years ago)

the answer is ege

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Sunday, 24 November 2013 07:00 (twelve years ago)

Guys, choose thoughtfully. For the sake of future days!

nostormo, Sunday, 24 November 2013 08:24 (twelve years ago)

I'll rank them as:

Ege > future > tago > babaluma > soundtracks > monster movie > the rest

Moka, Sunday, 24 November 2013 10:09 (twelve years ago)

Actually no i like monster movie better than soundtracks.

Moka, Sunday, 24 November 2013 10:29 (twelve years ago)

I accidentally voted for Future Days.

winnebago taco, Sunday, 24 November 2013 16:45 (twelve years ago)

Mother sky is the most indispensable Can recording for me so in some ways soundtracks is my favorite can.

Pressgang Wolf (Jon Lewis), Sunday, 24 November 2013 18:01 (twelve years ago)

Ege > future > tago > babaluma > soundtracks > monster movie > the rest

totally agree with this.

chromecassettes, Monday, 25 November 2013 02:26 (twelve years ago)

tago >
ege >
babaluma = landed = flow motion = saw delight (this era i listen to the most these days) >
future (first half is great but i rarely listen to this) >
monster movie = soundtracks (i know it's sacrilege but i don't care much for the malcolm-era) >
the rest

fit and working again, Monday, 25 November 2013 03:39 (twelve years ago)

i never listen to fd because "bel air" bores me.

Don't listen to "Bel Air" then. I don't.

Thomas K Amphong (Tom D.), Monday, 25 November 2013 09:00 (twelve years ago)

Bel Air is great imo

Never liked BB, sorry.

nostormo, Friday, 29 November 2013 05:50 (twelve years ago)

four years pass...

I imagine this place to be like Monty Python's Whicker Island, populated entirely by men who look like Holger Czukay ca. 1972.
