Realistically, what's the minimum you'd accept to sit through all the Oasis + Beady Eye + High Flying Birds albums in consecutive order?

And don't think you can just go around with it on your ipod, you can make yourself a snack or w/e but you have to be pretty much stuck there listening to them all the way through.

B-sides collections count but not live or interview albums, I'll spare you those.

how many hours-ish are we talking here? i'd probably do it for £25-£30 p/h

last updated 10 years ago by (Noodle Vague), Monday, 9 December 2013 16:37 (eleven years ago)

I can imagine this would take probably a full day of your time, so you'd be stuck at home. You can read, eat, do idle chores etc, but you'd have to have it at audible listening volume for the duration.

a beef supreme (dog latin), Monday, 9 December 2013 16:38 (eleven years ago)

If you work you'd have to book the day off as holiday, obviously, so factor that in.

a beef supreme (dog latin), Monday, 9 December 2013 16:39 (eleven years ago)

went for £301-£500, wd probably do it for a round 300 but wanted some negotiation room

last updated 10 years ago by (Noodle Vague), Monday, 9 December 2013 16:41 (eleven years ago)

yeah i think about £300 minimum to make it worth my while. It would probably be like doing a temp job that gets more and more gruelling throughout the day.

a beef supreme (dog latin), Monday, 9 December 2013 16:45 (eleven years ago)

Fairly light day working from home, so I've gone 201-300. Lowballing for ten hours but maybe I can pitch an article about it somewhere. Feeling like I might have undervalued myself though, looking at last two answers.

woof, Monday, 9 December 2013 16:51 (eleven years ago)

with the terms you've set tbh i cd just start on the rum at clocking on and everything wd sound brilliant after half an hour

last updated 10 years ago by (Noodle Vague), Monday, 9 December 2013 16:51 (eleven years ago)

yeah I can work in bed and read while I do it. I'd take 250-300 even if it were 14 hrs.

woof, Monday, 9 December 2013 16:54 (eleven years ago)

maybe have a thread on it here, pick up some ilx capital while I'm at it.

woof, Monday, 9 December 2013 16:56 (eleven years ago)

I have to listen to fucking Steve Wright talking for three, four hours most afternoons, such as this one right now. never once been as pissed off listening to Oasis or related produce as he makes me. I'll do it for £50 np

screaming lord, such opinion (DJ Mencap), Monday, 9 December 2013 16:57 (eleven years ago)

not sure whether to introduce a caveat that says you can't work or turn it into a money-making venture. You do have to be sitting there and pretty much concentrating on the music to a necessary degree. Not sure if getting intoxicating is cheating or not.

a beef supreme (dog latin), Monday, 9 December 2013 16:57 (eleven years ago)

Would do it for £750 - fifty quid for beer and pizza and a decent book, the rest on the best pair of ear defenders that money can buy.

rp boo bryson (NickB), Monday, 9 December 2013 16:59 (eleven years ago)

when/if the US posters pop into this thread they'll probably ask for the interview albums thrown in for free right?

screaming lord, such opinion (DJ Mencap), Monday, 9 December 2013 16:59 (eleven years ago)

Is there a book deal involved?

Mark G, Monday, 9 December 2013 17:02 (eleven years ago)

I have done a lot worse for a living than getting paid to listen to shite music, if I am honest you could probably negotiate me down to a tenner!

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Monday, 9 December 2013 17:03 (eleven years ago)

Never heard of Beady Eye or High Flying Birds but if they are anything like Oasis it wouldn't be too horrible (at least until the 9th hour or so). $400 or so would get my attention.

skip, Monday, 9 December 2013 17:04 (eleven years ago)

i think you might be underestimating the subsequent medical costs of stabbing yourself in the ears with a pencil at the start of the session

rp boo bryson (NickB), Monday, 9 December 2013 17:07 (eleven years ago)

Actually this would be at least be an 8 hr listening session so my rock bottom rate would be Eighty quid. Sure it would be a tough shift, but I once worked on a site where this real shithead plumber had his ipod hooked up to his Dewalt ghetto blaster and for 8 weeks I heard a lot of Oasis. I pleaded with him one day to give it a rest and he put on an Ian Brown solo album, it wasn't just Oasis but it was a real bunch of crap and he was inflicting on us all for 8 weeks. It's tough dealing with this crap in the workplace when you are under pressure to finish a job on schedule, but just getting paid to listen to it = fair do's.

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Monday, 9 December 2013 17:49 (eleven years ago)

Oh god, even as a U.S. person that owns 80% of this material anyway, I'd still need at least $500 to sit through all of this in one listening session.

an enormous bolus of flatulence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 9 December 2013 17:52 (eleven years ago)

i think if i didn't have to take a day off work and it was cash in hand i cd probably go somewhere between 100 and 150 but i say this having never knowingly heard the spin-off groups

last updated 10 years ago by (Noodle Vague), Monday, 9 December 2013 17:52 (eleven years ago)

Estimated £301-£500. Honestly I could see myself doing it for a bit less if pushed, but I live in an expensive city and jesus god the electricity bill came and it was huge and I'm so very very cold...

emil.y, Monday, 9 December 2013 18:13 (eleven years ago)

would do this for £50 I think, spending 8 hours sitting around at home doing nothing is not unusual for me, I don't think having Oasis playing in the background would make it that much worse? After a while your brain would just filter it out, surely, like you do with the central heating or whatever?

Mental Strong People: The 13 Things They Avoid (soref), Monday, 9 December 2013 19:22 (eleven years ago)

I think if I was going to something like this I would rather it be with a band I'm pretty indifferent to like Oasis that with music I actually liked, feel like that would be more stressful/tiring. Oasis would be kind of perfect to be honest, I don't like them but I don't generally feelannoyed or upset by there music when I hear them.

Mental Strong People: The 13 Things They Avoid (soref), Monday, 9 December 2013 19:26 (eleven years ago)

+ Beady Eye + High Flying Birds

emil.y, Monday, 9 December 2013 19:27 (eleven years ago)

same difference surely?

Mental Strong People: The 13 Things They Avoid (soref), Monday, 9 December 2013 19:29 (eleven years ago)

Looking at the options I can't believe there is anyone here who would seriously be like 'I'm not going to spend a day sitting around my house listening to dull music for £5,000, make it £10,000 and we'll talk'

Mental Strong People: The 13 Things They Avoid (soref), Monday, 9 December 2013 19:31 (eleven years ago)

yeah i mean i'd do it for a hondo easy

My Chief Keef Keef (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 9 December 2013 19:33 (eleven years ago)

Has anyone else heard that record the residents put out that documents a pre-fame Penn from Penn and Teller supposedly being locked in a room for a weekend and being made to listen to the entire Residents/Ralph Records back catalogue?

Mental Strong People: The 13 Things They Avoid (soref), Monday, 9 December 2013 19:37 (eleven years ago)

He's one of their extended organisation, I'm sure.

Mark G, Monday, 9 December 2013 20:35 (eleven years ago)

Oh yes, the whole thing is very obviously 'in character', I think it might have been more entertaining if they had done it in a more low key fashion.

Mental Strong People: The 13 Things They Avoid (soref), Monday, 9 December 2013 20:48 (eleven years ago)

I like 'Roll To Me' by Del Amitri, but I think that would be an unpleasant song to listen to on repeat for 8 hours.

Mental Strong People: The 13 Things They Avoid (soref), Monday, 9 December 2013 20:50 (eleven years ago)

if this is supposed to be the most trying music then there is a lot worse than oasis, whose depravity is more ideological than purely aesthetic, as someone said of them before oasis are, like spacemen 3 or acen or lee perry, designed to facillitate the experience of drugtaking, in this instance to capture the vaguely euphoric experience of being mildly drunk on cheap lager, enraptured by swirling imprecisely 'psychedelic' guitars, leering simian feelgood mantras, nothing too obtrusive from the rhythm section

their music is much more easily consigned to the background than 2000s landfill indie withs its inistent shoutiness, protooled percussion, scratchy guitars mixed so high they verge on digital clipping etc

I'd do this for ten grand, but only if I'm provided with booze for the entire time. I haven't had a drink for nearly twelve years, but I'm pretty sure the only way I could survive this would be if I was loaded.

Someone has already said "cash in hand" on this thread so the benefit fraud investigation team are already watching. "Huh! they are paying people to listen to music, cash in hand" "yeah full bennies".

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Monday, 9 December 2013 21:29 (eleven years ago)

I'd do it if I could choose the dogs to ingest during the course of it.

I'll do it for £200

☞ (brimstead), Tuesday, 10 December 2013 06:24 (eleven years ago)

With the pound so high compared to the Canadian dollar, £200 is good for me. It'd be painful but I could buy a bunch of records I liked with the money to wipe the taste out of my ears.

A sort of "Sister Ray" for the mentally handicapped (staggerlee), Wednesday, 11 December 2013 03:52 (eleven years ago)

Went for about 300 - min wage is 6.50 an hour and there's about 30 hrs or so of music here, right – or have I made a horrible mistake

cardamon, Wednesday, 11 December 2013 04:34 (eleven years ago)

I see listening to this corpus as 'work' – no bad in itself so long as you're getting paid for it, but woe betide me if it crosses into my leisure time
