Loving this. Change in direction from her first, following a scrapped intermediate album. Respect for her veering off on this tangent instead of following a successful debut with more of the same. My touchstones would fall somewhere in a Venn diagram of someone who liked The Knife, When Saints Go Machine, and/or Grace Jones. Yours?

Live version of "Igneous", below.

This is one of the most dramatic style shifts I've ever witnessed an artist do. However, despite it pressing all my buttons, it still kinda goes in one ear and out the other.

Haven't heard the album but The Apple is one of my singles of the year. Unrecognisable from album #1

really not impressed that she was on the whole bouncy retro-pop thing when it was on trend, and now dark electro-soul is on trend...look what vv brown's morphed into

five months pass...

have often been in a room in which everyone can’t help but notice the colour of my skin. It strangely becomes an issue. People see my culture as intriguing – almost a commodity. In some circles, conversation turns to hip-hop or something “slightly ethnic”, to try and cover up their own discomfort and ignorance. You can tell they wonder how they should act in the presence of a black person. The truth is most white people are not used to feeling different. They see white faces in movies, advertisements, fashion campaigns and more. I would love it to be the other way round for a day so they could feel the social constructs and consciousness that black people exist in.
