The Reverend, Thursday, 19 December 2013 19:29 (twelve years ago)

Daft Punk vs Taylor.

Mirrors is OK from the two times I've heard it.

Rest is dire.

president of the people's republic of antarctica (Arctic Mindbath), Thursday, 19 December 2013 19:34 (twelve years ago)

Real battle is being fought here, obv

Gut ranking would be:

Miley
JT
DP
Taylor

Dunno the Wanderection well because only saw via a jokey youtube view

Haven't heard the Pitbull

乒乓, Thursday, 19 December 2013 19:35 (twelve years ago)

I think earlier in the year I might have voted Get Lucky without thinking twice, but at present I like I Knew You Were Trouble a whole lot more.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 19 December 2013 19:35 (twelve years ago)

actually sorta like all of these to varying degrees, maybe except for the pitbull one, but even that is the least disagreeable pitbull thing i've ever heard

taylor definitely stands out to me tho.

mums go off when i enter the building (monotony), Thursday, 19 December 2013 19:36 (twelve years ago)

Only six options? LOL there'll probably be 46 when Lex starts the "I hate this fvcking country" version of these polls.

Jeff W, Thursday, 19 December 2013 19:37 (twelve years ago)

"I Knew You Were Trouble" is my favorite Taylor Swift song I've heard and it's still maybe a 4/10 to me. Voted for Daft Punk.

The Reverend, Thursday, 19 December 2013 19:38 (twelve years ago)

Please rest assured that this year's polls are all "I hate this fvcking country" versions.

The Reverend, Thursday, 19 December 2013 19:38 (twelve years ago)

love these sooooo much more than the number 1s

Miley > JT > DP > Taylor > Pitbull >>> 1D

the five people you meet in Hedon (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 19 December 2013 19:39 (twelve years ago)

T. Swizz seems the best option, though I actually like a lot more here than on the 3#1 list.

Greer, Thursday, 19 December 2013 19:39 (twelve years ago)

"We Can't Stop" is the only one of these I really hate.

The Reverend, Thursday, 19 December 2013 19:39 (twelve years ago)

#1*, whatever. "We Can't Stop" really peaked at #2? That's kinda funny.

Greer, Thursday, 19 December 2013 19:40 (twelve years ago)

"Timber"'s very existence is hilarious to me. Like of fucking course someone as blatantly shameless as Pitbull is going Mumfordcore.

The Reverend, Thursday, 19 December 2013 19:42 (twelve years ago)

Daft Punk f/ Pharrell, "Get Lucky"
One Direction, "Best Song Ever"

#illuminati (crüt), Thursday, 19 December 2013 19:54 (twelve years ago)

"Mirrors" sounds like JT singing a song that was written for Bieber

#illuminati (crüt), Thursday, 19 December 2013 19:54 (twelve years ago)

"Get Lucky." Fuck the rest.

a fifth of misty beethoven (cryptosicko), Thursday, 19 December 2013 20:21 (twelve years ago)

"get lucky" is the only correct answer but I'm voting 1D out of sympathy. also dig "trouble"

g simmel, Thursday, 19 December 2013 20:24 (twelve years ago)

sympathy for?

a fifth of misty beethoven (cryptosicko), Thursday, 19 December 2013 20:27 (twelve years ago)

harry styles's mick jaggernes I guess. fuck it, I like the song.

g simmel, Thursday, 19 December 2013 20:32 (twelve years ago)

we can't stop > get lucky > best song ever > i knew you were trouble > timber > mirrors

dyl, Thursday, 19 December 2013 21:40 (twelve years ago)

Has to be Get Lucky, as Daft Punk will never get this chance again. In another world, Mirrors.

LimbsKing, Friday, 20 December 2013 00:07 (twelve years ago)

all of these kinda suck but "mirrors" i guess

k3vin k., Friday, 20 December 2013 00:17 (twelve years ago)

Ha -- I guess I'm the contrarian. "Best Song Ever" is obv the best song on this list. "Get Lucky" bores me, "I Knew You Were Trouble" is third-rate Swift with expensive production, "Mirrors" like I've said goes on and on and doesn't give me a chance to breathe. Pitbull and Miley I forgot minutes after hearing them.

the objections to Drake from non-REAL HIPHOP people (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 20 December 2013 00:23 (twelve years ago)

and the 1D album is pretty good!

the objections to Drake from non-REAL HIPHOP people (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 20 December 2013 00:23 (twelve years ago)

One Direction barely over Timberlake for me but I love both.

timellison, Friday, 20 December 2013 00:34 (twelve years ago)

why so few?!

"i knew you were trouble" obv the best by miles but feels kinda 2012.

"we can't stop" was unremarkable at first but grew into a solid party jam with ubiquity.

"get lucky" is barely adequate but also fundamentally dull.

not interested in 1D for their music.

i should probably hear that pitbull single?

"mirrors" is hollow and woeful

voting t-swift

lex pretend, Friday, 20 December 2013 00:41 (twelve years ago)

i more or less like all of these songs

le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 20 December 2013 00:58 (twelve years ago)

"timber" is awesome, i love that song

le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 20 December 2013 00:59 (twelve years ago)

Lex, there are very few because a few of these songs were #2 for long time and blocked from going #1 by the juggernaut that was Blurred Lines' 12 week run at #1. Also Royals' 8 week run at #1. Our top 5 has basically been the same 5 songs switching off places with each other for more than half the year.

Greer, Friday, 20 December 2013 01:05 (twelve years ago)

My cousin sees Pitbull at his daughter's school. Devoted PTA parent apparently.

the objections to Drake from non-REAL HIPHOP people (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 20 December 2013 01:08 (twelve years ago)

"Mirrors" sounds like JT singing a song that was written for Bieber

My thought on it is it sounds like what Nsync would be doing in 2013 if they were a going concern. Biebs pretty much occupies that niche now but it feels like a backward move for JT.

The Reverend, Friday, 20 December 2013 01:27 (twelve years ago)

"Mirrors" sounds like JT singing three consecutive songs written for biebs

katherine, Friday, 20 December 2013 02:02 (twelve years ago)

taylor swift easy and i am pretty definitely not a fan

balls, Friday, 20 December 2013 02:04 (twelve years ago)

it's pretty common that the amount of #2 singles in any given year is fairly low here. i think there have been some years with only 2-3 singles peaking at #2.

dyl, Friday, 20 December 2013 02:15 (twelve years ago)

"Timber"'s very existence is hilarious to me. Like of fucking course someone as blatantly shameless as Pitbull is going Mumfordcore.

1D is #2

i just can't even think about daft punk anymore

feels like the twift song was more of a 2012 song, idk, i like it

JT and miley the losers, but JT moreso

my whole family is catholic so look at the pickle i'm in (zachlyon), Friday, 20 December 2013 02:21 (twelve years ago)

#3s through #5s would be 15 songs total

#6-#10 more interesting tho

my whole family is catholic so look at the pickle i'm in (zachlyon), Friday, 20 December 2013 02:32 (twelve years ago)

The only one of these I haven't heard is the Pitbull song, which I voted for

SHAUN (DJP), Friday, 20 December 2013 03:54 (twelve years ago)

le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 20 December 2013 03:55 (twelve years ago)

Pitbull f/ Kesha, "Timber"

Daft Punk f/ Pharrell, "Get Lucky"

k3vin k., Friday, 20 December 2013 04:10 (twelve years ago)

"Best Song Ever" is obv the best song on this list.

It'll do for our first dance togeths.

Haha just listened to Timber and started wondering if we were right to praise Miley for doing something new in '4x4'

乒乓, Friday, 20 December 2013 14:24 (twelve years ago)

oh my god "timber", why did i vote before hearing it!!!!

lex pretend, Friday, 20 December 2013 15:37 (twelve years ago)

timbah!

dyl, Friday, 20 December 2013 15:41 (twelve years ago)

Daft Punk.

zip-a-dee-doo-dah, motherfucker! (Turrican), Friday, 20 December 2013 21:15 (twelve years ago)

I hate "We Can't Stop" so much. It is the rough-antidepressant-comedown of pop music.

maura, Friday, 20 December 2013 21:29 (twelve years ago)

that's more or less why i love it

the five people you meet in Hedon (Noodle Vague), Friday, 20 December 2013 21:31 (twelve years ago)

dyl, Friday, 20 December 2013 21:39 (twelve years ago)

it totally has that feel of hazy insomniatic intoxication but it's also the new "fight for your right to party"

those two things may be connected!

le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 20 December 2013 21:42 (twelve years ago)

"Fight for Your Right to Party" wasn't a dreary dirge v

The Reverend, Friday, 20 December 2013 22:30 (twelve years ago)

you've gotta kinda gloat over a boring piano track about how you don't need to fight for your right to party

Mmm yes hello (crüt), Friday, 20 December 2013 22:39 (twelve years ago)

le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 21 December 2013 03:44 (twelve years ago)

and the 1D album is pretty good!

"you and i" <3 <3 it's so dramatic! that EPIC guitar solo and then zayn's perfect adlibs in the final chorus. so good.

anyway, this list is 3 amazing songs, 1 good one but the verses are a bit embarrassing, 1 boring one and one that lasts 8 mins for no reason & is also shit

"i knew you were trouble" > "we can't stop" = "timber" > "best song ever" >>>>>>>> "get lucky" >>>>>>>>>>>> "mirrors"

uberweiss, Saturday, 21 December 2013 05:19 (twelve years ago)

hmm miley v pitbull

feel my duties as astronomer royal of 'wcs' are complete so 'timber' it is... excellent tune (smh sb 'mumfordcore')

fwiw in years to come swift's will be the only one of these that won't elicit groans but who cares about that tbh

Correct.

Alfre, Lord Woodard (Eric H.), Friday, 27 December 2013 02:27 (twelve years ago)

I had never actually heard Timber until now and was expecting to hate it, but some how it's not completely terrible. In fact, I'd say that Avicii's "Wake Me Up!" is still worse than this.

MarkoP, Wednesday, 1 January 2014 16:58 (twelve years ago)

avicii's "wake me up!" is worse than everything that has ever been created in the entire universe

my whole family is catholic so look at the pickle i'm in (zachlyon), Wednesday, 1 January 2014 20:55 (twelve years ago)

except the video for "wake me up!"

speaking of videos it should be noted that "WCS" is 100x better without the video
