top three for me: storm queen, duke dumont & a*m*e (both original and skreamix), rudimental & ella eyre

the mileys probably round out the top 5

probably gonna vote storm queen even though it's two years old and i prefer the original version, just because...STORM QUEEN. AT NUMBER ONE. that's kind of amazing.

"need u (100%)" seems like the definitive hit that encapsulated the house revival to me. "waiting all night" was your low-key song that you hear in public a million times and every time it sounds amazing

lex pretend, Friday, 20 December 2013 08:53 (eleven years ago)

"Need U" or "We Can't Stop" for me i think

the five people you meet in Hedon (Noodle Vague), Friday, 20 December 2013 08:53 (eleven years ago)

worst? racist lily allen on principle or "thrift shop" are contenders but i genuinely cannot even stand to listen to "i love it". but pj & duncan is certainly the most-ashamed-of-this-fucking-country option, it passed me by at the time, what comedy nonsense triggered its return?

lex pretend, Friday, 20 December 2013 08:55 (eleven years ago)

Jesus Christ this is actually hard for once.

Matt DC, Friday, 20 December 2013 09:02 (eleven years ago)

xp

they performed it "just for fun" on their shitty television show and were "completely surprised" when people started downloading it iirc

the five people you meet in Hedon (Noodle Vague), Friday, 20 December 2013 09:05 (eleven years ago)

just be grateful there aren't more cynical fuckers tapping into the 30-something lolstalgia market or you could end up with a chart-topping "guilty pleasure" (ugh) every other week

the five people you meet in Hedon (Noodle Vague), Friday, 20 December 2013 09:06 (eleven years ago)

Between Duke Dumont, Rudimental, Storm Queen and Daft Punk for me. Throwing a vote to Get Lucky just feels lame at this point, and while nothing this year delighted me like the Storm Queen #1 I'm going to go with Waiting All Night as emblematic of that crazy summer when suddenly it seemed like the UK had worked out how to do good pop music again.

I'm assuming the worst is the Calvin Harris v Hurts track just because on paper along that's the worst track ever made.

Matt DC, Friday, 20 December 2013 09:07 (eleven years ago)

I don't really follow the charts, but I was pretty much agog when I saw Storm Queen at number 1.

a beef supreme (dog latin), Friday, 20 December 2013 09:33 (eleven years ago)

How come POJ and Duncan got to number 1? Some sort of TV tie-in I take it?

a beef supreme (dog latin), Friday, 20 December 2013 09:33 (eleven years ago)

is a*m*e the same as Ame who did Rej, or someone entirely different?

a beef supreme (dog latin), Friday, 20 December 2013 09:34 (eleven years ago)

oh sorry, read the thread dog latin

a beef supreme (dog latin), Friday, 20 December 2013 09:35 (eleven years ago)

'Need U (100%)'

Worst is 'Thrift Shop'.

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 20 December 2013 10:12 (eleven years ago)

Need U

"Burn" is by far the most distressing

cheeseburger, Friday, 20 December 2013 10:26 (eleven years ago)

Is Sam Bailey actually #1 yet or are you just presenting it as an inevitability?

Matt DC, Friday, 20 December 2013 10:29 (eleven years ago)

#1 in our hearts

the five people you meet in Hedon (Noodle Vague), Friday, 20 December 2013 10:30 (eleven years ago)

based on midweeks/inevitability

started thread today b/c rev started the US ones and i don't care enough to wait

lex pretend, Friday, 20 December 2013 10:31 (eleven years ago)

So what makes you think we care enough to vote?

Here he is with the classic "Poème Électronique." Good track (Marcello Carlin), Friday, 20 December 2013 10:39 (eleven years ago)

Worst was the Nuremberg non-pop of "Burn Ellie Goulding."

lol at 2chainz having a number 1.

'Mirrors' is probably the least terrible so I'll vote for that.

the Shearer of simulated snowsex etc. (Dwight Yorke), Friday, 20 December 2013 10:55 (eleven years ago)

Having already voted for "Wrecking Ball" and "Get Lucky" in the US polls, "Need U (100%)" is the natural pick here.

Jeff W, Friday, 20 December 2013 11:00 (eleven years ago)

is a*m*e the same as Ame who did Rej, or someone entirely different?

lol this would be p funny and excellent if true

um i voted for "we can't stop"

dyl, Friday, 20 December 2013 15:49 (eleven years ago)

âme ft. a*m*e is the new cassy ft. cassie fantasy

lex pretend, Friday, 20 December 2013 15:53 (eleven years ago)

hey if Storm Queen can get to number one... I can only dream of a top ten made up of 2000s minimal house producers gone pop.

a beef supreme (dog latin), Friday, 20 December 2013 15:56 (eleven years ago)

Best year for UK number ones since I don't know when. I like or love 10 of these songs.

Deafening silence (DL), Friday, 20 December 2013 16:08 (eleven years ago)

Best since 2009 IMO.

"need u" obi

boggling @ sean paul being on a #1 in 2013

le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 20 December 2013 19:03 (eleven years ago)

He's actually the less boggly half of that partic no 1

lex pretend, Friday, 20 December 2013 19:07 (eleven years ago)

ya, The Saturdays making a career of being a third-rate instance of a genre that hardly exists any more is remarkable.

Was there anything in particular behind Storm Queen's popularity?

Merdeyeux, Friday, 20 December 2013 19:31 (eleven years ago)

PJ & Duncan just beating out Daft Punk. Don't really care about the rest, I'm afraid.

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Friday, 27 December 2013 02:00 (eleven years ago)

12 good ones this year for me. "Get Lucky", by a whisker over "Need U".

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Wanz - Thrift Shop 6

this is shocking

lex pretend, Saturday, 28 December 2013 23:27 (eleven years ago)

and that cloying lily allen cover getting any votes at all smh

lex pretend, Saturday, 28 December 2013 23:27 (eleven years ago)

i have to assume some of those macklemore votes were troll votes given that the same song was the only one to receive 0 votes on the us poll

either that or something that went #1 in the us but not the uk stole all the would-be macklemore fans' votes
