OK, music lovers, please help me find something very specific. I'm looking for songs that feature both a synthpop aesthetic (DX7, Prophet 5, 808/909/303, Linn, DMX, Juno, PPG, Emulator sounds etc.) and strong African or Afro-Carribean influences. Will likely be from the 80s, but that's not a requirement.
To give you an idea:
- Scritti Politti's Cupid&Psyche 85 (in particular the dub version of "The Word Girl", i.e. Flesh and Blood feat. Ranking Anne)- Wally Badarou (especially his Album Echoes and some of the Compass Point productions he's featured on)- Ma Foom Bey by Cultural Vibe- Prince Jammy's Computerised Dub Album- The dubbier Colourbox stuff
Thanks!

Going down the Awesome Tapes From Africa path, we find Hailu Mergia. And then, there's a whole blog dedicated to "South African bubblegum/disco from the 80s & early 90s". Oh Internet!
