Obviously it's a well-loved and celebratory song, widely thought of as a classic. But are these nostalgic memories blinding us to some slightly dodgy sexual undertones? The women in the song could be taken as being treated as objects, not given voice or agency.

There's nothing to say the girls in the song aren't happily and wilfully taking part in Amtrak, or the game some call the train. It's prudish and sex-shaming to start from an assumption that they're not enjoying the multiple partners as much as the male participants.

But Brother Marquis refuses to stop when she says to. It's a CLEAR violation of consent. “The girl would stay stop, I say 'I'm not'.” Open-and-shut.

That's taking his line out of context. She hasn't refused an act and he's gone ahead anyhow – he got stuck! That's not his fault!

But she withdraws consent midway through – obviously this could be roleplay in a real-world context, but we have to go on is the words as said.

You're still taking it out of context – he doesn't refuse to stop, he's saying “I'm not [doing it on purpose]”. The rest of his self-quote is “That's enough, I quit, because y'all are busting me out.” He DOES stop! And what's more, he specifically withdraws from the entire scenario TO AVOID THE CHANCE OF HAVING HIS ACTIONS MISINTERPRETED. It's perhaps the most consent-conscious gang-bang sex rap of all time.

comparing a woman to a rat is a bad look, though she may be empowered by biting it; but if he wants her to bite then...I'm confused

“Girls don't hide it, just divide it, and please don't knock it until you've tried it.” – there's no force involved, the women are being INVITED to participate, and very politely asked to offer their feedback on the experience!

Okay, yeah, I was being kneejerk. On reflection, the Fresh Kid Ice verse also deserves enormous props for its body-positivity and enormous consideration of issues of consent.
