am i right in assuming Out on the Side will take it?

nostormo, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 10:56 (eleven years ago)

Why Not Yr Baby for me pl

Ward Fowler, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 11:04 (eleven years ago)

no filler in this record

nostormo, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 11:05 (eleven years ago)

Good excuse to listen to this again

Why Not Your Baby by quite a distance

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 16:38 (eleven years ago)

I've always loved Train Leaves Here This Morning. Does it get stigma for an Eagles rweworking or something?
The No Other out-take is pretty cool too.

Stevolende, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:09 (eleven years ago)

Such a solid album from front to back, but yeah, "Why Not Your Baby" is so completely amazing that it's hard to compete with that.

Non-Stop Erotic Calculus (bmus), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:12 (eleven years ago)

Why Not Your Baby will smoke everything else, which is a shame because it's a really good record.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:15 (eleven years ago)

agree this is a great album and I've been deep into this stuff lately (seems to be something of a trend around here) but Why Not Your Baby just sounds like its from a different set of sessions altogether, maybe it's just the orchestral backing/arrangement. song seems like it's on another plane than the others.

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:17 (eleven years ago)

iirc it was not included on the original issue of the album.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:18 (eleven years ago)

It was a standalone single that later got appended to the running order.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:19 (eleven years ago)

it's also more of a Byrds-ish/Will you love me tommorow style song as oppose to Country

nostormo, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:36 (eleven years ago)

"(seems to be something of a trend around here)"

i take some responsibility to that

nostormo, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:37 (eleven years ago)

this is a great record. voted "with care from someone".

though it's a good song i don't care much for the combination of banjo picking and strings on "why not your baby".

fit and working again, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 21:48 (eleven years ago)

yeah "lyin' down the middle" (b/w "don't be cruel") and "why not your baby" were singles released after the album and added as cd bonus tracks.

fit and working again, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 21:51 (eleven years ago)

never a big one for Elvis covers but the "Don't Be Cruel" version on here is smokin hot

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 22:01 (eleven years ago)

radio song

From the Album No Baby for You! (Matt P), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 22:03 (eleven years ago)

1. Out On The Side
2. Radio Song
3. Train

brio, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 22:11 (eleven years ago)

" the combination of banjo picking and strings on "why not your baby"."

the banjo is unnecessary indeed, but it does'nt interrupt as well

nostormo, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 22:17 (eleven years ago)

it was probably like - hey, Dillard is in this record too, let's give him something to do in this song

nostormo, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 22:21 (eleven years ago)

Why Not Your Baby will smoke everything else

Which is a real pity because it wasn't on the original album, so I can't vote for it... oh and it's the strings that are unnecessary not the banjo!

Struggling to pick one because this album is so consistent and - this isn't as big a criticism as it sounds - it doesn't have the peaks (or troughs) of the 2nd album. Love the Eagles' cover, "She Darked the Sun" is a great country song, "Something's Wrong" is the most Gene Clark-like... ooh it's difficult.

" Love the Eagles' cover"

Eagles cover?!

nostormo, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 14:05 (eleven years ago)

Leadon co-wrote some stuff here with Clark but Eagles only formed in 71.

nostormo, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 14:09 (eleven years ago)

wasn't on the original album, so I can't vote for it...

yeah was gonna say I don't even know "Why Not Your Baby" because I only have this on vinyl (Goodwill score!) but I do understand how douchey that sounds

Mmm... So I guess I will think of the 2nd place as the true winner of this poll.

nostormo, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 16:10 (eleven years ago)

it's the strings that are unnecessary

madness! such a gorgeous arrangement

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 8 January 2014 16:26 (eleven years ago)

what's the keyboard on radio song - harpsichord?

brio, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 16:52 (eleven years ago)

they should have continue the small psych thing at the end of the song..

nostormo, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 16:54 (eleven years ago)

"Love the Eagles' cover"

Eagles cover?!

the eagles covered "train leaves here this morning" on their first album.

fit and working again, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 19:08 (eleven years ago)

Yeah, that was the joke

Eats like Elvis, shits like De Niro (Tom D.), Thursday, 9 January 2014 13:24 (eleven years ago)

... if you can call it a joke

Eats like Elvis, shits like De Niro (Tom D.), Thursday, 9 January 2014 13:32 (eleven years ago)

"Why Not Your Baby" for sure. I introduced the song to a quite famous singer in hope she'd cover it, but she said she got too sad when she sang it. Then stole my copy.

crustaceanrebel, Thursday, 9 January 2014 15:42 (eleven years ago)

Am I the only one who thinks Yr Baby sounds somewhat like Will You Still Love Me Tommorow?

nostormo, Thursday, 9 January 2014 17:05 (eleven years ago)

Bloody hell this is a tough choice. Ignoring the 'extra tracks' it's between "The Radio Song" (which is why I got the LP - it was on Saint Etienne's fab "The trip" mix cd) or the despondent sway of "Train.." Or the "A taste of honey" steal on "With care..." Or the poignant "Something's wrong". I think the fab electric harpsichord on "Radio song" might edge it for me.

Rob M Revisited, Friday, 10 January 2014 13:58 (eleven years ago)

Yr Baby sounds somewhat like Will You Still Love Me Tommorow?

nah the titular melodic refrain is pretty close

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 10 January 2014 16:25 (eleven years ago)

by which I meant nah you are not alone

Ayn Rand Akbar (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 10 January 2014 16:25 (eleven years ago)

well, i found out he covered Will You Still Love Me Tommorow (in Under the Silvery Moon).

coincidence?

nostormo, Friday, 10 January 2014 17:34 (eleven years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Monday, 13 January 2014 00:01 (eleven years ago)

would have voted for why not your baby but it's not on the proper album! so i voted for out on the side.

whole album is beyond terrific though.

Except for the fact that In The Plan and She Darked the Sun were robbed.

one year passes...

yeah "lyin' down the middle" (b/w "don't be cruel") and "why not your baby" were singles released after the album and added as cd bonus tracks.

count me among those who own this on vinyl and have never heard any of these songs

but the way yall are going on about this "why not your baby" song makes me think I should hear it

ugh cd "bonus tracks." HATE

Jimmywine Dyspeptic, Tuesday, 12 January 2016 13:56 (nine years ago)

feel free to track down those vinyl singles.

sleepingsignal, Tuesday, 12 January 2016 16:04 (nine years ago)

IIRC, Sundazed did a reissue single that shouldn't be hard to get.

"Damn the Taquitos" (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 12 January 2016 16:52 (nine years ago)

You used to be able to get the 2 Dillard and Clark lps together asa 2fer alongside singles etc. Not sure if that version is still around at all. I think It must be a while before 1998 cos that was around when I discovered it.
THink it was CBS Legacy or something. & there have been other label reissues since then.
