What is irony? Baby don't hurt me

I read this article that proclaimed the death of neo-garage and all that comes with it -- pizza jokes, weed references, a bit of silly harmless fun (destroy it all).

Elsewhere, a few reflections on the end of an age of irony:

If a punk moans in a forest, does anybody write a zine?

Young Homer: You wouldn't understan', dad. You're not *with it*.
Middle-aged Grampa: I used to be with it, but then they changed what *it* was. Now what I'm with isn't *it*, and what's *it* seems weird and scary to me. It'll happen to you...

Is 'sincerity' coming back in? Was it ever 'out'? What are you gonna do with them lil' scamps on their internet boxes?

SF Weekly article is interesting but also reminds me that the aggro hardcore noise never really changes or develops it just goes in and out of style.

I'm still confused as to when "irony" was the big thing.

weird blend of irony and sincerity among young folks in music and otherwise is def "in," i.e. all the 285 kent stuff, all that "alt lit" stuff that's blown up in the past couple yrs
