Yeah I'm not enjoying this one as much. The live versions sounded really promising, but her vocals are arse on this, particularly during the verses.

Doing some research, I find I'm behind the curve. "Hideaway" went number one in the U.K. The video has nearly thirty million views. The only one out of the loop is me. And U.S. radio. But that won't be for long. Because "Hideaway" can't be denied, because of Kiesza herself.

Go down the rabbit hole and you discover the video was done in one take. And I discovered "Hideaway" through my ears, but I clicked through. And I was BLOWN AWAY! The clip had the offhandedness of the early Madonna work. Sure, it was choreographed, but Kiesza seemed to be having so much fun, seemed to need it so much, that I was sold.

Yeah, I totally get that. One thing I really like about it is how much room the vocal is given in the mix. It sounds way more naturalistic than most pop vocals do today.

best part is when she's like "ah", "ooh" is pretty good, too

that's the problem with the gorgon city remix, no ah's, and the ooh's just aren't the same

I like thinking of Giant In My Heart as a kind of "She Works Hard for the Money" refix

All the songs so far released to the public are in a mould that the rest of the album does not fit, and in such a way that makes her definitely a singles artist.

I like this album in the same way I like the Sage the Gemini album. Fairly anonymous but fun and well-executed genre music.
