Motörhead postpone more shows, management starts to explain why Lemmy still isn't well. Somehow this only makes things sound worse...

That puts a bit of pressure on Mark E Smith.

xxpost:

It sure is depressing, but not entirely surprising. It was only a matter of time before Lemmy's excesses caught up with him - if there's any surprise, it's that this hasn't happened sooner.

Poor guy. One of those guys that seems so completely indestructible for so long that living healthily is harder/more of a shock to the system than old bad habits.

Get well soon, Lemmy! <3

I don't think I've ever told this story on ILM before, though it's one of my favorite IRL stories. In 2002, I was editing a porn magazine, and managed to set up an interview with Lemmy when Motörhead came through NYC. They were performing at a venue called The World, owned by the WWE. We did the whole thing backstage, and/but because of the outlet, we brought two models - one of whom was a huge Motörhead fan. Lemmy and I talked for a half hour or so, then we were gonna take the pictures to accompany the story on this big couch they had in the room. The girls promptly stripped down to their panties, and the WWE publicist about shit herself. I was dragged into the venue manager's office, where I swore up and down that we wouldn't mention the WWE in the story, that we would just say we "caught up with Motörhead in New York," that there would be no WWE logos in any of the photos, etc., etc. (There weren't any logos on the walls in the room anyway, so we were perfectly safe.) Anyway, photos got taken, and Lemmy wandered back to his dressing room, but the two models decided to hang out with the band after the photographer and I went upstairs for the show. Well, about a half hour after we parted ways, the photographer got a panicked phone call from one of the models, who said, "You have to come get us—they're doing crystal meth back here."

Best part? In 2010, when my friend Wes co-directed the Lemmy documentary, he asked me to come down to SXSW to interview Lemmy onstage. When we met up backstage, I said, "I don't know if you remember this, but I interviewed you backstage in New York about eight years ago, and we brought two models..." and he laughed and said, "Oh, yeah, I remember."

you hear a lot of bad things about meth, but if you drink a lot, it helps to have something a bit more active in your pocket

I particularly like "I’m sure he’s slowed down on the speed."

I think because speed is the only actual illegal substance among the quotes, and the line just has a Spinal Tappish cluelessness about it.

as a guy who used to do a lot of speed this is pretty depressing to me, I can't even imagine how terrible a speed-crash would feel once you were over 30, let alone over 50

I've always got the impression that he's *enjoyed* himself - that his substance (ab)use has been fun. Is there anything to suggest otherwise?

Doctors sometimes recommend a glass of wine or whatever.

According to his autobiography he tried to get a Keith Richards-style blood transfusion and they wouldn't let him because pure blood would have be dangerous to his system.

Take care of yourself, Lemmy!

Because it has a few funny meanings, you see. Very Ringo/Yogi Berra.

The guy's nearly 70, I'd say he's done extremely well for it only just to be catching up with him. I'd imagine he has few regrets.
