kendrick didn't win last year? seems like an oversight

I got the glares, the mutterings, the snarls (President Keyes), Friday, 7 February 2014 00:57 (eleven years ago)

Hercules was definitely single of the year for me, but I didn't think the album should've made it that high in the poll. Going with PJ here.

LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 7 February 2014 07:35 (eleven years ago)

Ha! I did the albums poll last year and even I don't remember what won. Should've been Kendrick.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 7 February 2014 07:50 (eleven years ago)

Oh right, it was Miggy. I'd probably still choose Kendrick.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 7 February 2014 07:59 (eleven years ago)

who beat the-dream? agree love vs money and let england shake are the classics here, LES was the victim of about as great an injustice as there's ever been in an EOY poll though, on a par with gnarls barkley beating t.i.

1. love vs money
2. let england shake
3. real life is no cool
4. good kid, m.a.a.d city
5. kala
[huge gap]
6. hercules and love affair
7. fishscale
[huge gap]
8. lcd soundsystem
9. random access memories
[abyss]
10. a grand don't come for free

i agree with JF about "blind" vs the H&LA album - all these years later i never listen to or think about anything other than "blind".
never overly cared about solo ghostface for some reason.
those LCD/DP albums are comparable in that they showcase a dance act being old and boring. the LCD album at least had the singles bonus disc which would be up with the classics.
the streets, what an embarrassment. "dry your eyes" another contender for worst song ever to exist imo

lex pretend, Friday, 7 February 2014 08:10 (eleven years ago)

i mean i agree with leroo on H&LA!

lex pretend, Friday, 7 February 2014 08:11 (eleven years ago)

oh, the-dream lost to fever ray. both great albums. i think i might prefer LvM sliiiiightly to LES but voting PJ due to injustice.

lex pretend, Friday, 7 February 2014 08:15 (eleven years ago)

i also liked 'hercules theme' on the H&LA album!

nathey, Friday, 7 February 2014 09:56 (eleven years ago)

voted for the radio k...ala

the streets, what an embarrassment. "dry your eyes" another contender for worst song ever to exist imo

Is 'Fit But You Know It' on the same album? That's even worse.

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 7 February 2014 10:19 (eleven years ago)

PJ Harvey is probably the one of these I've listened to the most.

silverfish, Friday, 7 February 2014 14:19 (eleven years ago)

voted for Kala, with good kid, LES, and Fishscale next. I don't rate H& LA apart from "Blind" either (tho' "Blind" topped my singles list in '08). Prefer The-Dream albums released before and after LvM.

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 7 February 2014 14:28 (eleven years ago)

Voted Kendrick

Would have voted Terius but it's not L/H

, Friday, 7 February 2014 14:29 (eleven years ago)

1) Kendrick Llama - Good Kid, M.A.A.D City
2) Lindstrøm & Christabelle - Real Life is No Cool
3) Ghostface Killah - Fishscale
4) LCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem
5) PJ Harvey - Let England Shake

something like that...

CANONICAL artists, etc., etc. (contenderizer), Friday, 7 February 2014 14:55 (eleven years ago)

Miguel deserved to beat Kendrick but they're both great albums. That might have been the best top two I've seen on here though.

I actually own and like all of these, although I probably haven't listened to that Streets album since the year it came out. Probably wouldn't enjoy it that much now.

Still really like the Hercules and Love Affair album. Hercules' Theme was always my favourite song on there. Probably shouldn't have been that high as 2008 was an incredible year for albums (Cut Copy, Erykah Badu, Lindstrom, Sebastien Tellier, Solange, Jazmine Sullivan and Wild Beasts should have all been higher) but I still play it a decent amount.

Not sure what to vote for. Have been reminding myself what a great album Kala is recently but Random Access Memories is still up there for me too.

Let England Shake, over Kala

jmm, Friday, 7 February 2014 15:19 (eleven years ago)

Went with The-Dream, 2nd place would be Kendrick. The Ghostface, PJ and Daft Punk albums are all pretty good but some way off those artists' best work.

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 7 February 2014 15:28 (eleven years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Saturday, 8 February 2014 00:01 (eleven years ago)

Whoops missed this entirely. Would've voted Ksla just over LES
