no takers?
i'm still kinda bewildered why i love this outfit so.
on paper it doesn't look good at all - clunky pere ubu with a mellotron / generic sub-grunge / am rep knock-offs, cod beefheart, moody-blues meet jesuslizard 3rd tier psychedelic plod-prog, dude from GBV singing like peter gabriel / stevie winwood...
BUT....
what is this weird synergy? it sounds so...
authoritative?

such a great body of work, though for me it will always be sgt. disco!

This is a tough one, I think I'd ultimately have to go with either Sgt. Disco or Gringo. This was the last long-running Pollard project that I was able to get into, but it was those two that finally held the key. I was a little disappointed in the two 2013 albums, but they had moments.

lmao I thought the choices listed were songs on an album, not albums themselves

haha, it's Pollard. of course they are albums.

i went with ataxia but i'm thinking i shoulda put it there for ringworm interiors if only for the "let's go back to bed" number

Definitely Gringo or Sgt Disco. I'll have to choose.

erasingclouds, Thursday, 13 February 2014 02:15 (eleven years ago)

Would have loved to see them collaborate with Dreamboat Gorilla.

I didn't vote in this...somehow I've heard more than half of these but I didn't like any of them. I try to keep up with Pollard as much as I can and this is a project I really *want* to like but I just haven't been able to get into it at all. I haven't heard Ataxia though, so that'll be the next one I try...

cwkiii, Friday, 14 February 2014 01:48 (eleven years ago)

i read Ataxia described as "devo meets HP Lovecraft" maybe on the circus devils website i can't remember. there's moments on ataxia that remind me of QOTSA, but i hate QOTSA cos in-thrall-to-"cool", conservative rockism etc, whereas at least bob & the tobiases go tapeloop frenzy psychedelic derangement LIKE OLD DUFFERS. which is where i'm at.

Eight whole votes ?!? The latest GBV (Motivational Jumpsuit) is quite good, even the Sprout tunes are welcomed.

bodacious ignoramus, Saturday, 15 February 2014 19:44 (eleven years ago)

ten months pass...

"escape" anybody? some very understated but ben marcus level weirdness on this one.

massaman gai, Monday, 5 January 2015 20:54 (ten years ago)

I was just about to write something about how it's interesting that this thread was revived while that "Bands that are better 'in theory' than in reality" thread is going strong because etc etc...but it turns out I pretty much said everything I had to say a few posts before the revive. I don't know, I think I got into a bad habit of being particularly impatient with Pollard releases and just moving on to the next one, otherwise I fall too far behind. I'll give the new one a shot.

cwkiii, Monday, 5 January 2015 21:38 (ten years ago)

if i voted again today i'd go w/ mother skinny

massaman gai, Tuesday, 6 January 2015 08:05 (ten years ago)

I got home yesterday and went to check out Escape and realized I already heard it and totally forgot about it. Too much Pollard!
