I was surprised that given the hype around the band's 2011 debut that there wasn't a thread on these Brooklyn hipster throwbacks. Maybe the band's new album will attract more ILM interest...
Cerebral Ballzy announced in the fall that they had signed to Cult Records. The label's owner, Julian Casablancas, says Cerebral Ballzy are "probably the coolest band in the world at the moment, a truly legit modern hardcore/punk band, and by far my favorite. It's beyond exciting to try and help them in any and all ways we can and we're honored to put their deliriously great new record out on Cult Records." The band's new album, produced by TV On The Radio's Dave Sitek will be out this year, with more details to follow.

Hahaha! I like the song.

Fair enough - if it's watered-down pop-hardcore with the worst bandname in history (oh how verrrry punk) you're after, then I suppose you can ignore the potential criticisms, all of which I harbour :P

Or maybe I don't give a shit that every hipster in Brooklyn is involved with the release in some way.

I don't especially care for this band but I envisage them having enough self-awareness to anticipate carpers saying things like "oh how verrrry punk" in regard to their name. gotta think two moves ahead with your barbs

I do wonder how many truly legit modern hardcore/punk bands Julian Casablancas listens to in the course of an average year

I'm sayin' - the name's definitely on some edgy 'transgressive' steez. We've all done it and it ain't big or clever, but to tar our musical careers with such a name? Think they're clever, don't they, think they'll deconstruct the primacy of nomenclature by forcing us to swerve it. Well, that shit ain't punk; in fact, I don't know what it is except probably very childish

yeah. couple years ago when i saw their lp at the record store there was a sticker on it proudly announcing that it got a negative review from pitchfork

i saw these guys open for Flag and it was really sloppy and boring, not edgy just like some shit band playing in the middle of some house punk show.
the video is a lot slicker and more pop than it came off live, i dunno, just another shitty hardcore band.

the TVOTR and Strokes shit at least explains why the hell they were on the bill in the first place, i was like goddamn is this like a Make A Wish Foundation thing?
terrible name
Nuke A Wish would be a good one, though

Haven't listened, won't listen. Fuck these guys.

it's not just the name. i first heard them through converse ads and adult swim bumpers, which doesn't sit right. vice magazine pushes them, which doesn't help. i dunno, maybe they're great and i'm being a snob (i mean i am).

I gave the debut a shot but couldn't get into it. a friend with good taste likes em but it wasn't for me. I fuck with plenty of Vice Magazine endorsed bands so it's not just turning up my nose at their associations.

haven't heard the new one but "legit hardcore/punk" and "produced by Dave Sitek" does not compute.
