86 has Raising Hell, Ill Communication, Parade, Reign in Blood, Queen is Dead. I'd guess that wins followed by 76.

Drugs A. Money, Friday, 14 February 2014 08:34 (eleven years ago)

Gorelord's The Norwegian Chainsaw Massacre and Regurgitate's Sickening Bliss both came out in '06, so 2006 it is

1996 > 2006/1986 > 1976

A lot of the great music from 1996 completely passed me by at the time though.

Third Reich'n'Roll, The Modern Lovers, 'Final Solution', 'Radioactivity', Selda, Sowiesoso, 'Don't Leave Me This Way', 'Anarchy in the UK', África Brasil, Üdü Wüdü...

1976 > 2006 > 1986 > 1996

2006: several stand-out albums, and a flurry of good Latin music singles. 1986 is kind of a blur but I don't remember being particularly into what was current then (and if I've since come to like much music from that year, I haven't noticed that it is from that year). 1996 was/is kind of a dead zone for me musically.

_Rudipherous_, Friday, 14 February 2014 17:57 (eleven years ago)

Top 40 radio was so diverse in '76: hard rock, soft rock, MOR, R&B, nascent disco, country, TV themes, novelties... one of the last years I really listened to it a lot.

In 1986 I was a 17-year old metalhead.

So, 1986.

1996. I was alive and the music was awesome.

LimbsKing, Friday, 14 February 2014 22:50 (eleven years ago)

I'm thinking 96 too but I love all these years

Drugs A. Money, Saturday, 15 February 2014 03:54 (eleven years ago)

96 was a black hole of shit plus that's the year Load came out and around the time the Big Four all lost their minds so.......I voted 86

Lesbian has fucking riffs for days (Neanderthal), Saturday, 15 February 2014 03:55 (eleven years ago)

One thing I'm not opposed to: turning this poll into a variation of that Fbook game where someone gives you a year and you have to list ten of yr favorite albums from that year (except for the fact that I'm a little embarrassed that I dont listen to much--or enough, really--hip hop)

2006: best music year of the 2000s

(^also check the vote spread)

1996: defend 1996

1976: Was 1975/76 musically as bad as legend makes out?

(not actually a sneer, still thx a million Herman)

as far as 1986 goes, I always see from other sources (John Peel, Scott Miller) (who incidentally did Interbabe Concern which is one of the reasons I'm voting 96) that 1985 was sort of the nadir of the "bad-80s" and in this view, 86 always comes off as 1985 pt. 2

Drugs A. Money, Tuesday, 18 February 2014 13:01 (eleven years ago)

I will say that if I knew just a little more about reggae I'd probably wouldve voted for 76 all the way

Drugs A. Money, Tuesday, 18 February 2014 13:02 (eleven years ago)

yeah not sneering but punk legend has it 76 was poor (apart from the punk that appeared that year)

۩, Tuesday, 18 February 2014 14:01 (eleven years ago)

85 was the year I went off chart music in a big way. Up until then I used to buy a ton of 7" 86-89 was slimp pickings (at the time) for me. Of course once I discovered indie/metal etc I realised there was a ton of great music i was just unaware of.

Victorialand, Please, Standing On The Beach, Control, True Blue... Yup 1986.
