^^^ i think i have it down to these but i'm lolling too hard to really choose. Also, I'm assuming "come and join the mass debate" is a "masturbate" joke which makes it weirdly kind of defensible, like at least i understand the impulse that produced it - ditto the really dopey angst rhymes in a way. It's when he's really trying to land a clever conceit that it really becomes special.

Newcastle has a great impoverished arts scene, some live venues, and a decent art gallery. And the foreshore reclamation is pretty stunningly effective. Wangaratta has a funnier name, though.

early Silverchair was kinda like "yeah ok nothing special but they're kids and they ripoff cool bands" then they decided what their fans REALLY wanted were a bunch of pencil-dicked freshman English poetry set to plodding guitar clean strumming and a string orchestra.

Yeah, the influences on the first two Silverchair albums are blindingly obvious, especially on this album. Part of the vocal melody of 'Slave' is clearly 'Holy Water' by Soundgarden, and 'Lie To Me' is basically their take on 'tourette's'
