Prodigal Son for me. It's a fine record, some great playing on it.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 21 February 2014 13:59 (eleven years ago)

Well that doesn't clear up anything.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 25 February 2014 07:47 (eleven years ago)

Why did I not know about this poll? This album is kind of unique in vibe. Totally gritty, urban, British, but still rootsy. The guy who cuts my hair tells me stories about hanging out in Ladbroke Grove in the early-mid 80s as a teenager and how this album was the soundtrack to that.

doglato dozzy (dog latin), Tuesday, 25 February 2014 09:53 (eleven years ago)

would have voted for the opening track.

By all means.

I like SP's second album too, I don't know the others. Maybe wait a while before polling it, they're clearly not ILM favourites. Even System didn't show for this one.

Their career trajectory seems absurd to me - how on earth did they wind up playing Clinton's inauguration?

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 25 February 2014 10:06 (eleven years ago)

i don't know that one at all but i do have A New Chapter Of Dub which is totally great xp

night boat to mega therion (NickB), Tuesday, 25 February 2014 10:09 (eleven years ago)

That and LKJ's Bass Culture are probably my favourite things from the UK reggae scene, but I'm no expert by any means. What other gems are there?

night boat to mega therion (NickB), Tuesday, 25 February 2014 10:12 (eleven years ago)

all of Aswad's stuff up to Live and Direct, first 2 or 3 UB40 albums are worth your time, any Misty in Roots you can get hold of

have to say i am really enjoying the dennis bovell reissues that came out a few years ago.

there is the 70s releases under 'the 4th street orchestra' that were packaged to look like jamacian imports, his digital dub stuff as blackbeard, and of course, his own releases (audio active, strictly dub wise, and brain damage)

and dont take much to track down/buy as emi reissued it all a few years ago.

mark e, Tuesday, 25 February 2014 14:34 (eleven years ago)

Even System didn't show for this one.

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Monday, 18 March 2019 23:26 (six years ago)

not on point but i was just tonight playing my 15 y/o kid the ridiculous awesome uk pop reggae of “songs called ravers/got you cravin more and more!” hook upon hook upon hook upon hook everywhere in that later period.
