1. "Until You Come Back to Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)," 2. "Junior's Farm,"
3. "Miracles"

Went with "How Long".

Always found it hilarious that the song isn't actually about Paul Carrack's cheating lover, but rather about the bassist from Ace secretly playing for other bands.

Runners-up: "Miracles", "Tell Me Something Good"

Frontier Psychiatrist, Saturday, 22 February 2014 03:03 (eleven years ago)

The Smoove B lyrics of "Miracles" still crack me up. "I had a taste of the real world when I went down on you, girl."

But this is "Tell Me Something Good" vs. "Junior's Farm" for me, leaning toward the latter.

JACKIE BLUE

'tell me something good' over 'miracles' for runner up. 'jackie blue' has a hold on my soul. that solo in particular.

'i got a taste of the world/when i went down on you girl' on am radio - kudos marty balin

"Boogie On Reggae Woman"

one of the best songs ever

"Tell Me Something Good" vs. "Miracles"

It's like daytime vs. night time, a sassy street jam vs. a sultry after hours come on.

But I really love the way Slick and Balin's voices mix on that... so "Miracles" it is

"Tell Me Something Good" - so devastatingly slow, so devistatingly funky.

Also "just a drop of it" and "don't stop it" vocals in the mix at the same time adding to the rich sensuality. As with the Rasperries' "Go All The Way", it became apparant you could be quite explicit in your lyrics as long as they were wrapped in sweet, pretty Beach Boys-like harmonies and still have an AM radio hit. Grace and Marty's vocals make my hair stand on end.

I actually prefer "Snookeroo" to "No No Song," most welcome after two months of shitty eighties Elton-Taupin treacle.

Hi!🕸

C’mon “At Seventeen” over “If You Don’t Know Me By Now?”. Fuck Simply Red, it’s “good to great”!

"You Ought to Be With Me", "Until You Come Back to Me", "Saturday in the Park" and "Miracles" are probably the best songs those artists ever recorded.

Does Scott Joplin get out of "the Hague" when he isn't arranged by Marvin Hamlisch?

Halfway there but for you, Wednesday, 21 April 2021 01:49 (four years ago)

it's possible to overdo it with the Philly International sound but I'd definitely put "If You Don't Know Me By Now" and the adjacent "Everybody Plays the Fool" in the top tier.
