70's private press record that somehow got major media attention when it was unearthed, maybe because of the almost fairytale-like story behind the music and its creators. Now that the hype around "Baby" is gone, it's time to discuss and decide: WHAT'S YOUR FAV TRACK???

Voting for "Give Me the Chance" because:

- I like the groove
- the guitar sound is so nasty
- the self-oscillation solo is awesome
- the Emerson boys are consistently keeping in time on this track, which makes it less annoying than, let's say, "Baby" or "Feels Like the Sun"

"Good Time" and "Baby" were my faves when I first heard this, but I'm gonna break out the vinyl and see how I feel now.

johnny crunch, Friday, 7 March 2014 18:36 (eleven years ago)

μ thant (seandalai), Friday, 7 March 2014 21:14 (eleven years ago)

Second half is hella underrated, decided to spread the love and vote for Don't Go Lovin' Nobody Else.

μ thant (seandalai), Friday, 7 March 2014 21:55 (eleven years ago)

Just relistened--the whole thing is great, but "Good Time" is still my fave.

Inside Lewellyn Sinclair (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 12 March 2014 17:53 (eleven years ago)

baby is wonderful, i've only listened to the rest maybe once or twice and it didn't strike me as remarkable on its own terms (meaning apart from the album's origin story). though i should give the rest of the album its due

marcos, Wednesday, 12 March 2014 17:57 (eleven years ago)

I think one of my record dealers is the guy who discovered this at an antique mall. I still love it. And yeah Baby is one of the greatest songs ever, but the rest of the record is tops!

five years pass...

I got really irritated with "Baby" on the radio today, kept hearing "you're so baby."

geoffreyess, Tuesday, 10 September 2019 22:57 (six years ago)

I got the impression most people assumed that was the actual lyric

PaulTMA, Tuesday, 10 September 2019 23:01 (six years ago)

ban golf (jed_), Tuesday, 10 September 2019 23:48 (six years ago)

oh wow, those aren't the words.

also "My Heart" is the best.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 04:04 (six years ago)

"you're so baby" makes a weird elliptical kind of sense though.

ban golf (jed_), Wednesday, 11 September 2019 06:20 (six years ago)

i figured they were singing stuff that didn't make sense.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 06:37 (six years ago)

ban golf (jed_), Wednesday, 11 September 2019 07:08 (six years ago)

I guess this didn't get much love at the time but it's just as good as Dreamin' Wild, maybe better

Paul Ponzi, Friday, 10 September 2021 18:11 (four years ago)

I like the immediate shift from 70s to 80s production values

Would be keen to hear this. Was hoping it would have reemerged by now:

I’m hearing “oh yeah baby”

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 7 August 2023 17:08 (two years ago)

Even clearer than on the original one actually.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 7 August 2023 17:09 (two years ago)

It’s an interesting story - and a very impressive and pure record coming from some teenage farmboys in the middle of nowhere who pretty much went full DIY with it:

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/jul/28/donnie-joe-emerson-dreamin-wild

I see why it would make an interesting documentary.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 7 August 2023 17:17 (two years ago)

Its a biopic with Casey Affleck, Beau Bridges and Zoe Deschanel

Reeves Gabrels' Funko Pop (majorairbro), Monday, 7 August 2023 22:36 (two years ago)

LOL

budo jeru, Monday, 7 August 2023 23:20 (two years ago)

I don’t know if there’s enough for a biopic lol

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 8 August 2023 00:05 (two years ago)

my friend actually invited me along to a showing of that movie; i had other plans. i definitely thought it was a documentary

budo jeru, Tuesday, 8 August 2023 03:21 (two years ago)

Getting padded out to make romcom vibes from the trailer :(

Hope Ariel Pink is in it

PaulTMA, Tuesday, 8 August 2023 10:32 (two years ago)

three weeks pass...

Think I'll see this on the weekend. I love the song, like Beau Bridges, and thought Love & Mercy was pretty good.

clemenza, Saturday, 2 September 2023 00:38 (two years ago)

The trailer, if you're still having a hard time believing this exists.
