If we're considering other contexts, it'd be "Oblivion" (video), "Nightmusic" (live), but on record it's "Be A Body"

The whole thing feels more like one whole piece rather than individual songs at this point, but Visiting Statue is always the one I come away from a listen singing.

Oblivion's such a great track bt watched the video for the first time in months yesterday and they marry into such a strange, beautiful/unsettling piece of work I wouldn't want to vote for the song alone

her early stuff is pretty good! she did a whole album loosely based on the book dune.

such a good album. but indeed "vanessa" might be my favourite track of hers.
was it on an album or something ? with other great tracks ?

I'm very curious to hear what she comes up with next.
As I said in another thread, it's suprising that she hasn't release ANYTHING since the album.
I thought she would be the kind of artist to record and release things impulsively...

she's had the most meteoric rise of any solo, self-producing artist I can remember, I imagine that she's sweating a little/a lot, having to deal with repositioning herself mentally?

for some reason i am going to be disappointed if the next album isn't very different from this one, even though this is one of my favorite albums of the past few years. she seems like an artist who should grow and evolve, following her enthusiasms to unexpected places.

AIXTC vanessa was on a split LP with d'eon. the other great grimes track on that album is called "crystal ball". don't care at all about the d'eon tracks.

crystal ball might be as good as vanessa, which means it might be the best grimes track.

comments from interviews about pop diva/black dice hybrids hint she might be going off in the direction suggested by nightmusic perhaps. too tough to pick one, really like the way eight goes off & the way the genesis bassline opens up, and would echo pretty all the bits of enthusiasm expressed itt

yeah, she must have crazy pressure to deal with as to what to do next... but releasing some tracks along the way might have reduced that pressure.

i think she is going to release something mindblowing that will receive a ton of backlash at first, including a "damning with faint praise" pitchfork score in the high 7s to low 8s. by the time people start putting together their year-end lists, it will be clear that certain people feel very strongly about the record being great, causing renewed interest. by mid 2015 all the backlash will be forgotten. the singles from the album will be showing up all over the place and its greatness will become consensus, more or less, setting the stage for her next (5th?) album which will be one of the most anticipated things of the year, including a massive viral marketing campaign. this will cause a renewed wave of backlash.

Go forward. You are a beloved child of the universe and will be cared for as such. Exhale.

Good advices

I can't remember which exploded-pop-star it was that had an exchange with Gaga (but I'm hoping I'll remember by the time I finish typing this post) oh right it was La Roux, where Gaga was explaining the reality of pop-star track-farming, asking what producers La Roux had been talking to for album #2, and La Roux (haughtily? heroically?) proclaimed that she'd been doing great with her current collaborative producer-relationship, why would she kick him off the job and replace him with strangers-for-hire? Well, here we are 5 years later with no new La Roux album. I only compare La Roux (yuck) with Grimes (yay) because I feel there's some similarity in the sentiment of "I'll make my post-breakout follow-up on my own, thanks" and I want to defend that right, speak to the psychological burden of 'follow-ups' and say that I have all the patience in the world for a new Grimes release

I agree & think there is a huge amount of goodwill out there towards grimes to ameliorate the pressure a little

Genesis! Circumambient would be a very close second. Oblivion is not holding up as much as I thought it would.

I think the temporary username I was using when I made this poll is the worst in ILX history.

Album is a work of genius of course. I have it on vinyl which is maybe missing the point for such an internet focused album.

It’s amazing how untrue this is in a post-Art Angels workd.

Vanessa is still top 10 Grimes tbh. Video alone puts it in top 5.

aaah I loved this album a lot but somehow Art Angels didn't click at all with me.
I haven't cared about her since then.
Maybe her next album will bring it back : dDoes she have anything planned ?

I heard Genesis in a Nordstrom Rack over the weekend. Weird juxtaposition, but it reminded me that I hadn't put this album on in years.

unfortunately Art Angels kind of overshadows it for me now, since while Visions is legitimately excellent and enjoyable and i still play it on occasion, AA is my most listened to (and favorite) album of the past few years by a fair margin.
