RIP.

Looks like Iggy(!) is the only member of the original Stooges line-up still alive now.

Keith Richards will probably outlive all the rest of the Stones though too.

"So ah, it's just ah, once again--goes to show--a tribute to body building. You've all seen those Arnold Schwartzenegger commercials, I'm sure, you know, where he said he was born with this body, and all that kind of stuff, you know. So look at this, happens all the time, can't get through a couple of songs 'cos our drummer is stronger than Arnold Schwartzenegger. You believe that? Hah? Well it's true. Well, look at this man back here. He don't lift sissy weights, he uses sticks. The beat. And his name is Rock Action, and they don't call him that for nothing." - Fred "Sonic" Smith, MC5, Sonic's Rendezvous Band

That's from the Sweet Nothing live album by Sonic's Rendezvous Band. Which is full of great drumming and weird stage banter.

Karl Walenda, yeah

StanM, Sunday, 16 March 2014 23:18 (eleven years ago)

He gets a shout-out on Metallic K.O., right? Still the funniest stage patter ever.

RIP. On two of the greatest records ever made.

Hinklepicker, Monday, 17 March 2014 06:39 (eleven years ago)

I saw some mention of this last night including the Facebook message from Iggy, went to post it to another list realised that I'd only heard it in one place since the Iggy thing had been reprinted on another list. So went to check it through google and there was some mention of the thought that this was a hoax, but not why somebody would be likely to do it.

So wondering why there was thought that it might be, unless there alway si sunless it is absolutely confirmed to be true.

Anyway if he is dead then great shame. Great drummer on most of the material I've heard with him on, probably all. The Ashetons were a great rhythm section and great band elsewhere.
He was great with SRB too, and The Fog and whatever other Mascis etc pre reunio Stooges related stuff.

Stevolende, Monday, 17 March 2014 10:02 (eleven years ago)

The death hoax message is a hoax by a ridiculously infantile site called med1amass that does this frequently just to get hits.
