Ditto re: 10-11 legit contenders, gonna just vote ''Stop It'' on a whim and because otherwise I'll dither and forget to vote. NO ROCK AND ROLL, NO - great repetition, hypnotic, intensifying. But could easily vote for so many of the others. Oh mannn, ''Feast On My Heart.'' Seeing these live in their mid-oughts reunion phase was amazing...I'm sure I've posted about this before but they were still the best, most exciting show you could see in Athens, mostly.

Doctor Casino, Friday, 21 March 2014 00:17 (eleven years ago)

"Working is no problem" is rarely cited, but for me it's a total fistpumper

Karl Malone, Friday, 21 March 2014 00:19 (eleven years ago)

inspired by putting on Chomp earlier this evening, and it sounds like a greatest hits album. every single song has something unique going for it.

Karl Malone, Friday, 21 March 2014 00:19 (eleven years ago)

That's on Gyrate tho. Voted Volume

sonic thedgehod (albvivertine), Friday, 21 March 2014 00:27 (eleven years ago)

(Sry to be anal, not like it matters! I get Volume in my head a LOT, so that)

sonic thedgehod (albvivertine), Friday, 21 March 2014 00:27 (eleven years ago)

oh, i haven't listened to working is no problem in a couple months, but i voted for it because it's an alltime fistpumper

Karl Malone, Friday, 21 March 2014 00:32 (eleven years ago)

i just meant starting the poll was inspired by putting on chomp this evening.

"this poll, brought to you by..."

Karl Malone, Friday, 21 March 2014 00:33 (eleven years ago)

I still don't have Chomp. Saw it at least once in bargain bins, bt ws put off (as a solemn teen) by the goofy bitemarked cover. I ws a dumb kid

sonic thedgehod (albvivertine), Friday, 21 March 2014 00:36 (eleven years ago)

Everything is cool.

Can't choose. Almost everything on Gyrate slays me. Chomp is good too but didn't/doesn't make me wanna bounce around like Gyrate does.

MarcoDisko, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 05:25 (eleven years ago)

Yeah, this is tough. Think I'm going with "M-Train" though.

curmudgeon, Thursday, 27 March 2014 18:16 (eleven years ago)

the lack of older pylon concert footage just kills me. the few pieces that exist out there are so tantalizing! and i know some footage must be out there - SOMEONE must have pointed a camera at them for a few songs during one of their athens performances. right?

They played up and down the East Coast of the US back then, but yep few folks had video cameras in those days (or even used regualr cameras at shows).

curmudgeon, Friday, 28 March 2014 14:06 (eleven years ago)

the only thing i've been able to find is this excerpt from a 1981 show at Hurrah:

Did you ever see this: Athens, GA: Inside/Out is a documentary film about the mid-1980s music scene in Athens, Georgia, USA.

The film features interviews and concert footage of local bands who were a part of the scene at the time of the documentation as well as local legends R.E.M., Pylon, and The B-52's. It also features an interview with famous folk artist Howard Finster.

Also Wiki says in Vanessa's bio:
They broke up for the first time in 1983 after playing a "final" show, which was taped for 'The Athens Show.' This was never formally released.

curmudgeon, Friday, 28 March 2014 14:21 (eleven years ago)

Karl Malone, either you or me did not actually vote for "Working is No Problem" or there are shenanigans afoot.

Three Word Username, Friday, 28 March 2014 14:23 (eleven years ago)

i think i voted for it! i meant to, at least. did you?

i guess it's also possible that i told myself i'd go ahead and listen to their entire catalog again really quick and make a decision, and never actually voted.

I don't care if you're Black Sabbath, James White, or Deep Purple (Karl Malone), Friday, 28 March 2014 14:28 (eleven years ago)

I meant to, and I am pretty sure I did!

Three Word Username, Friday, 28 March 2014 14:29 (eleven years ago)

curmudgeon i have seen that doc! actually i'm pretty sure that's where i first learned of them! and yeah, there's some footage in there as well, although again, it seems like just a bunch of snippets. i feel like some dude in athens has an amazing tape buried under a pile of dirty underwear

I don't care if you're Black Sabbath, James White, or Deep Purple (Karl Malone), Friday, 28 March 2014 14:29 (eleven years ago)

dang, then that should be TWO votes for working is no problem, then, vaulting it into the upper echelons of these poll results

I don't care if you're Black Sabbath, James White, or Deep Purple (Karl Malone), Friday, 28 March 2014 14:30 (eleven years ago)

Woo hoo!!

Three Word Username, Friday, 28 March 2014 14:31 (eleven years ago)

I voted for "Yo-yo", Karl. I only have one album though.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 22:49 (eleven years ago)

The film features interviews and concert footage of local bands who were a part of the scene

are there any good "scenes," anymore?

Daniel, Esq 2, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 22:58 (eleven years ago)

i'm not aware of any, but OTOH, i am o-l-d old.

some of you might enjoy reading this: http://www.netnik.com/jollybeggars/pylon.html

vanessa's history of the group. it spends say too much time on post-1990 activities, understandably, but still worth a read!

I'm hoping this means the albums will be reissued on New West soon and this isn't just a one-off partnership.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 29 November 2019 17:16 (six years ago)

Ah, I answered my own question. Apparently a box is due in 2020.

Console w this thread PYLON! C or D?

dow, Tuesday, 31 December 2019 02:35 (six years ago)

Gyrate is reasonably priced on the used market (I've bid on and lost copies that go for under $25 on ebay), but Chomp is the one that's absolutely ridiculous.

I really hope this deal with New West results in reissues of the individual albums and not just some astronomically priced box set/collection.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 31 December 2019 05:21 (six years ago)

If I remember right, Pylon was really late getting those first two records onto CD. I don't think either of them were ever in print on disc in the 90s...I know I found the first one on vinyl and did not get them on CD until the later post 2000 reissues.

earlnash, Tuesday, 31 December 2019 15:11 (six years ago)

the one Chomp LP that i saw for like ten bucks at wuxtry records in athens circa 2005 perpetually haunts me

Just a head's up if anyone missed out on the recent-ish reissues, New West is having a huge 50% off sale (today only, I think) including the box set
