t lex: no just a bad club track, lazily cashing in on meme-momentum

feels kinda too on-the-nose to be even a little funny. hey what's a selfie, what are people who take selfies like, let's just throw it on a generic beat lolol.
― some dude, Saturday, 29 March 2014 17:18 (eleven years ago)
it's been discussed a little bit already over on GTFO rolling worst music of 2014 (along with Nina Nesbitt's possibly even worse song "Selfies")
― Many American citizens are literally paralyzed by (bernard snowy), Saturday, 29 March 2014 17:20 (eleven years ago)
i am pro the entire concept of selfies but the dumb mainstream media seizing on it like a dog with a bone as if it was a fascinating new phenomenon really means the word itself makes me break out in hives

i think the real criticism is that it's a bit mean spirited but the writing is pretty funny "she bought all her instagram followers. who even goes out on mondays?"
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 29 March 2014 17:22 (eleven years ago)
pouring one out for dev
miss kittin was really last decade's queen of this
― lex pretend, Saturday, 29 March 2014 17:23 (eleven years ago)
i don't think this one is really half-assed. it's just a bit... branded
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 29 March 2014 17:24 (eleven years ago)
well yeah the mean spirited part is the depiction of "what are people who take selfies like". the writing doesn't really elevate the premise much, though, if this originated on a sketch show people would be like 'eh i kept waiting for the really funny part and it never got there.'
― some dude, Saturday, 29 March 2014 17:26 (eleven years ago)
drunk text is gr8 tho it's like bret e ellis wrote a track, this sucks
― every moser (wins), Saturday, 29 March 2014 17:28 (eleven years ago)

"it's not even summer. why does the dj keep playing 'summertime sadness'" is a good joke
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 29 March 2014 17:31 (eleven years ago)
there's a pithiness to this that i'm really into. "she's so short and that dress is so tacky. who wears cheetah?"
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 29 March 2014 17:34 (eleven years ago)
i think this sort of distorts the way selfies actually operate irl in the name of having a branded hashtag but the verses are dope otherwise imo
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 29 March 2014 17:35 (eleven years ago)
It's poor writing tho unless the dj played it more than once which they didn't xxp
― every moser (wins), Saturday, 29 March 2014 17:36 (eleven years ago)
like maybe it will be an interesting time capsule when it's as old as valley girl is now but as the jokes are sub-lonely island i kinda don't need to hear it until 2035 or something.
― da croupier, Saturday, 29 March 2014 17:39 (eleven years ago)
valley girl is not an interesting time capsule it's a piece of shit
― every moser (wins), Saturday, 29 March 2014 17:41 (eleven years ago)
This was one of the few tracks on Music Choice's EDM channel that I didn't hate.

"Valley Girl" sometimes credited/blamed with popularizing overuse of the word "like"
― Lee626, Saturday, 29 March 2014 22:41 (eleven years ago)
when this act is done -- in, say, 15 minutes from now -- a better act should resuscitate the outstanding name "the chain-smokers."
― Daniel, Esq 2, Saturday, 29 March 2014 23:21 (eleven years ago)
These type of things are fleeting, though.
I wouldn't read too much into it and just enjoy it for the five minutes it'll last.

It's amazing that Dim Mak used to put out EPs by the Gossip and now basically have a novelty song with the undertone of "women are inhuman monsters"
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 16 April 2014 23:32 (eleven years ago)
it's almost as if the vision and talent behind the label is as skin-deep as the character in the song.
