an office job is as secure as a Weetabix padlock (snoball), Sunday, 13 April 2014 14:24 (eleven years ago)

11 MOUNTJOY (5:08)
12 OBOE CONCERTO (4:07)

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 13 April 2014 14:46 (eleven years ago)

Since the track list has the length of each song, do our songs have to be the same length, like they did on the Lulu collab?

an office job is as secure as a Weetabix padlock (snoball), Sunday, 13 April 2014 15:55 (eleven years ago)

i want "I'm not a man" so badly but i don't think anyone wants to listen to 7:50 of what i have to offer so i will take "the bullfighter dies" if no one else wants it?
i think i can do something by 5/16
anyone who wants to join me is welcome

also i have a drum track that is 3:38 but it's pretty crazy/bad but totally up for grabs if you want it

Mayor Manuel (La Lechera), Sunday, 13 April 2014 16:38 (eleven years ago)

I don't think the track has to be the same length as the Morrissey version, unless Ned says otherwise.

an office job is as secure as a Weetabix padlock (snoball), Sunday, 13 April 2014 17:08 (eleven years ago)

I'll take "Kiss Me A Lot"

da croupier, Sunday, 13 April 2014 17:15 (eleven years ago)

oh in that case i like the song title "i'm not a man" a lot better but it shouldn't be given short shrift so i'll stick with the short one just because

Mayor Manuel (La Lechera), Sunday, 13 April 2014 17:19 (eleven years ago)

Great. I'll take oboe and work with Baaderonix on it.
The last of the famous international playboys!

AlXTC from Paris, Sunday, 13 April 2014 17:22 (eleven years ago)

I don't think the track has to be the same length as the Morrissey version, unless Ned says otherwise.

Yup, that's just there because it was in the cut/paste. Any length you like.

2 NEAL CASSADY DROPS DEAD (4:02)
3 ISTANBUL (4:40) -- Ismael Klata

10 KICK THE BRIDE DOWN THE AISLE (5:18)
11 MOUNTJOY (5:08)
12 OBOE CONCERTO (4:07) -- AlXTC/Baaderonix

Toni Braxton-Hicks (Turrican), Sunday, 13 April 2014 18:38 (eleven years ago)

I plan to pander to Morrissey's Spanish-speaking fan base fyi

Mayor Manuel (La Lechera), Sunday, 13 April 2014 18:49 (eleven years ago)

sarahell, Sunday, 13 April 2014 19:16 (eleven years ago)

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 13 April 2014 19:55 (eleven years ago)

If we're not bound to the original track times (aha.. ok just read the thread properly..), i'll give Gypsy Chips another outing on 'I'm Not A Man'.

Stop the tape I got spittle all over my moustache. (Talcum Mucker), Monday, 14 April 2014 01:16 (eleven years ago)

You got it.

That just leaves the title track, "Neal Cassady Drops Dead" and "Mountjoy"

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 April 2014 02:00 (eleven years ago)

OK I'll do "Mountjoy", which I assume is named after the prison, I'm sure I can up with somehing appropriately grim and unpleasant.

Eats like Elvis, shits like De Niro (Tom D.), Monday, 14 April 2014 09:17 (eleven years ago)

thought mountjoy would be some kind of cheeky erotic double-entendre

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Monday, 14 April 2014 10:59 (eleven years ago)

ahah, same here.
it could have been a R-kelly title also.

AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 14 April 2014 11:00 (eleven years ago)

I'm sure it's a cheeky erotic double-entendre as well, it's Morrissey after all

Eats like Elvis, shits like De Niro (Tom D.), Monday, 14 April 2014 11:28 (eleven years ago)

I'm in for the title track!

Elvis Telecom, Monday, 14 April 2014 11:53 (eleven years ago)

I'll take Istanbul, and leave the big prize to others

If this doesn't shoehorn in a mention of Djimi Traore I'm going to be sorely disappointed Ismael.

The bar has been set with 'Anfield Rap', do you dare dream to match it?

pandemic, Monday, 14 April 2014 12:01 (eleven years ago)

Gah, it hadn't even occurred to me. I'd been planning a sensitive Back To The Old House number, now it's going to end up some sort of Harry's Cool piece of whimsy.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 14 April 2014 12:08 (eleven years ago)

Okay, that leaves "Neal Cassady Drops Dead" to claim.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 April 2014 12:19 (eleven years ago)

pretty sure pandemic would do Neil Ruddock Drops Dead

Ismael Klata, Monday, 14 April 2014 12:56 (eleven years ago)

Don't think I could do anything interesting with that title, also running way behind on a couple of other projects I wanted to do, so I'm staying out of this one, but had I got in on time to bagsy "Staircase at the University", I'm sure you will all be happy to know I'd have taken the title excessively literally. Also I still think if you know the track times you should stick to them, it makes it more of a proper pre-cover.

emil.y, Monday, 14 April 2014 13:48 (eleven years ago)

Yeah wasn't the original idea to fool random googlers into downloading the thing with the same titles and track times?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Monday, 14 April 2014 14:26 (eleven years ago)

I'm definitely maiking sure mine is 5:08

Eats like Elvis, shits like De Niro (Tom D.), Monday, 14 April 2014 14:34 (eleven years ago)

some dude came up with the time limit idea for the Lulu precover as a suggestion and it did pay some dividends in terms of confusing people. But that's the only time it's been a specific requirement -- if you want to aim for it this time, feel free!

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 April 2014 14:41 (eleven years ago)

Meantime as for "Neal Cassady" I am asking two previous contributors/collaborators right now to see if they're up for it. If they can't, I'd love to have a backup in place...

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 April 2014 14:44 (eleven years ago)

I'll do it.

smhphony orchestra (crüt), Monday, 14 April 2014 14:47 (eleven years ago)

Cool, thanks; I've let the others know so they don't feel pressured either way, and I'll get back later on that today. Thanks!

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 April 2014 14:50 (eleven years ago)

So to summarize

1 WORLD PEACE IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS (4:21) -- Elvis Telecom
2 NEAL CASSADY DROPS DEAD (4:02) -- TBD, likely crut
3 ISTANBUL (4:40) -- Ismael Klata
4 I'M NOT A MAN (7:50) -- Gypsy Chips
5 EARTH IS THE LONELIEST PLANET (3:38) -- charlie h
6 STAIRCASE AT THE UNIVERSITY (5:30) -- snoball
7 THE BULLFIGHTER DIES (2:05) -- La Lechera
8 KISS ME A LOT (4:03) -- da croupier
9 SMILER WITH KNIFE (5:13) -- sarahell
10 KICK THE BRIDE DOWN THE AISLE (5:18) -- Turrican
11 MOUNTJOY (5:08) -- Tom D.
12 OBOE CONCERTO (4:07) -- AlXTC/Baaderonix

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 April 2014 14:51 (eleven years ago)

Deadline May 16th as mentioned, mp3/wav/aiff all welcome, go to town.

Now! Cover art. Post something here if you have it.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 14 April 2014 14:52 (eleven years ago)

I plan to stick to the time too.

Mayor Manuel (La Lechera), Monday, 14 April 2014 15:01 (eleven years ago)

Yeah wasn't the original idea to fool random googlers into downloading the thing with the same titles and track times?

The track times idea didn't come in until Lulu, and I think that came about due to there being tracks with really long lengths and therefore it added more to the challenge.

MarkoP, Monday, 14 April 2014 16:22 (eleven years ago)

I'm planning on sticking to the time too.

Elvis Telecom, Monday, 14 April 2014 18:09 (eleven years ago)

I'm not - 4:40 is forever

Ismael Klata, Monday, 14 April 2014 18:15 (eleven years ago)

Just sing "ooh Istanbul" in falsetto for the last two minutes.

Eyeball Kicks, Monday, 14 April 2014 18:17 (eleven years ago)

you're on

Ismael Klata, Monday, 14 April 2014 18:17 (eleven years ago)

I assumed "Mountjoy" would be about the prison in Dublin but, now I come to think of it:

Eats like Elvis, shits like De Niro (Tom D.), Tuesday, 15 April 2014 08:06 (eleven years ago)

I was going to offer to do the title track, but decided not to because I don't have a good way to record vocals. Here's what I came up with, in any case. It would have matched the time perfectly if I had not cut out five seconds of the delay feeding back at the beginning. Dah well.

austinato (Austin), Saturday, 19 April 2014 17:11 (eleven years ago)

I dig the sound, chord-changes! Could of course use some Morrissey moaning over it...

schwantz, Sunday, 20 April 2014 19:42 (eleven years ago)

Man did I go on holiday or wot?

Mark G, Sunday, 20 April 2014 22:05 (eleven years ago)

Bawbags. I missed this one. AH well.

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Monday, 21 April 2014 02:59 (eleven years ago)

Trayce you're welcome to take my spot, I'm kinda getting cold feet.

smhphony orchestra (crüt), Monday, 21 April 2014 17:47 (eleven years ago)

crüt you can join in on my song if you want! (or not, no biggie)

Mayor Manuel (La Lechera), Monday, 21 April 2014 18:17 (eleven years ago)

Trayce -- whatever works! Heck, maybe spoken word is the way to go given the subject matter.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 13 May 2014 12:45 (eleven years ago)

Oboe Concerto - sent!

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 13 May 2014 15:32 (eleven years ago)

I'm not going to make Friday (my time) for this, even with the simplest of tossed off crap.

If someone else wants to/reckons they can, please be my guest - Ned if you're ok with waiting til early next week I think I can get it to you then? Life's been rude and gotten in the way the last 2 weeks.

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Thursday, 15 May 2014 01:36 (eleven years ago)
