between "I Want Candy," "I Know What Boys Like," "Love Plus One," "Vacation ," "Sex Dwarf," "I Love A Man In A Uniform," "The Art Of Parties" or "Homosapien."

"Homosapien."

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 1 May 2014 02:26 (eleven years ago)

Maaan:

I Want Candy - Bow Wow Wow
Kids In America - Kim Wilde
Town Called Malice - The Jam
Vacation - Go-Go's
Homosapien - Pete Shelley
Mickey - Toni Basil

Am tempted to give it to either The Jam or Pete Shelley since it was this comp that originally introduced me to both of those songs.

Easily the most bang-for-your-buck of the volumes polled, though (sorry Bee) the Soft Cell/Gang of Four/Japan stretch is a drag. A CD I should definitely keep in my car.

HOMO SUPERIOR IN MAH INTERIOR

"I Ran" getting no love early on. This is a great comp, and I did indeed vote for the Seagulls.

jetfan, Thursday, 1 May 2014 02:43 (eleven years ago)

No idea what I will vote for with such an embarrassment of riches. BUT I can't stand the earworm horror that is the Jenny song. I will not write down the phone number. I will not.

that's not my post, Thursday, 1 May 2014 02:47 (eleven years ago)

from the youtube comments for the Homosapien video:

I remember eons ago, during an attempt at being an education major in my past life in the US, a fellow student saying parents in rural pennsylvania had her removed from the kindergarten in which she was student-teaching because she taught the kids this song.

'love plus one', my dog's favorite song

balls, Thursday, 1 May 2014 02:51 (eleven years ago)

This is 'Sex Dwarf' so much it fucking hurts.

Toni Braxton-Hicks (Turrican), Thursday, 1 May 2014 03:52 (eleven years ago)

To have ambition, was my ambition. Silly line but I sing it all the time. Therefore, voted for I Love A Man In Uniform.

brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 1 May 2014 04:37 (eleven years ago)

This comp introduced me to the weirdness that is "The Art of Parties," so I'll vote for that. Such a beautifully bizarre song.

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 1 May 2014 10:33 (eleven years ago)

Never really thought of Marshall Crenshaw as part of the new-wave crowd

Lee626, Thursday, 1 May 2014 11:45 (eleven years ago)

Huh. "Love Plus One," "Town Called Malice," 867-5309," "Vacation," "I Love A Man In A Uniform," "Homosapien - Pete Shelley," all great. My gut tells me to go with Shelley, or "Love Plus One," or "Jenny."

Mentioned somewhere else, but did anyone else know that the Tommy Tutone founder/guitarist Jim Keller has been Philip Glass's manager for eons?

"Homo superior in my interior" one of the best lines ever. One of the worst? "New York to East California, there's a new wave coming, I warn ya." East California?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 1 May 2014 12:01 (eleven years ago)

I Know What Boys Like - The Waitresses
Someday, Someway - Marshall Crenshaw
Town Called Malice - The Jam
Homosapien - Pete Shelley

Cronk's Not Cronk (Eric H.), Thursday, 1 May 2014 13:23 (eleven years ago)

"Love Plus One" video is great.

That's So (Eazy), Friday, 2 May 2014 02:22 (eleven years ago)

Someday Someway. That song is timeless, and it's not even the best on his debut record.

kornrulez6969, Friday, 2 May 2014 11:54 (eleven years ago)

can't not vote for kids in america, maybe the pinnacle of that type of pop rocky new wave (you know that type???). well 'hanging on the telephone' is a better song but kids in america is way more fun.

olly, Friday, 2 May 2014 12:07 (eleven years ago)

so much going on with 'kids in america' plus we could totally poll just cover versions of it!

wat is teh waht (s.clover), Friday, 2 May 2014 14:39 (eleven years ago)

Voted the Waitresses over Marshall Crenshaw, because they are always underrated. Also seems to capture and somehow stand above the era.
Prefer Wishing(If I Had A Photograph Of You) in the parenthetical Seagulls division.

campreverb, Friday, 2 May 2014 16:31 (eleven years ago)

Love "Hold On To Something".

skip, Friday, 2 May 2014 16:33 (eleven years ago)

That's the only one I don't know from this comp. I love the Kim Wilde and GoGos tracks equally as far as bubbly pop rock new wave goes, but my favorite stuff from that era was always a little more oddball; glad The Waitresses are on this to break the tie.

I'm starting to think this is the greatest compilation series since Nuggets

I would argue Rhino's 9 volume DIY series is even better, but yeah, this is a killer set.

fit and working again, Saturday, 3 May 2014 01:34 (eleven years ago)

I guess it was played a lot in the clubs? Anyway it is my pick here, and this is a great comp.

did anyone in those days ever actually wear a motorcycle jacket, button-up shirt and skinny tie at the same time?

did anyone in those days ever actually wear a motorcycle jacket, button-up shirt and skinny tie at the same time?

I had to GIS three bands to find the answer. The Knack. (not The Romantics, or The Plimsouls)
