Hate to break the news, but you left off "Tighten Up."

I believe he is assuming hat one is the best and that this is a poll about the second best.

Wasn't that the "Strategy,", j.?

Sorry, missed the title.

clemenza, Saturday, 10 May 2014 01:24 (ten years ago) link

No prob. I didn't quite understand the title until you asked the question.

For me it's down to "I Can't Stop Dancing" vs. "(There's Gonna Be A) Showdown" although I like most of these tracks.

I've got originals of the first two albums, but my second-favourite after "Tighten Up" isn't here: "Go for What You Know."

clemenza, Saturday, 10 May 2014 01:28 (ten years ago) link

Don't know that one.

james is right. about the poll. ('tighten up' would walk and be less informative.)

but about the other part i have no idea.

i only put this on for the experience of a tireless jubilation, and just let it ride. so i don't really feel more or less attached to any of the songs.

except 'tighten up' obviously.

It works pretty well just to leave it on, it's true.

Bo Diddley Is A Threadkiller (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 10 May 2014 01:30 (ten years ago) link

about a third of the songs are gamble and someone or gamble & huff. one is isaac hayes (and annie lennox??). archie has credits on two (one of which is 'tighten up').

Can't vote for it, but it's on YouTube:

clemenza, Saturday, 10 May 2014 01:30 (ten years ago) link

if you leave it on it also feels like you are dancing through time.

and like archie is dancing increasingly hard to keep up with the machine gearing up behind him.

j., Saturday, 10 May 2014 01:31 (ten years ago) link

Ha, exactly.

Bo Diddley Is A Threadkiller (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 10 May 2014 01:32 (ten years ago) link

Sublime: "We don't only sing, but we dance just as good as we want."

clemenza, Saturday, 10 May 2014 01:37 (ten years ago) link

i always forget that 'i've been missing you' is an actual ballad, after being amazed that they power through so many uptempo numbers

I mentioned my favorite quatrain from this album on this short but sweet thread

Archie's still alive--turns 70 in September. He's probably sitting behind the first-base line at Minute Maid Park, dancing just as good as he wants to and suffering through Astros games.

I went with my man Mr. Fine Wine to see him a few years ago at Joe's Pub, don't know if ilxor forksclovetofu was there as well. Believe he also did some free shows in Brooklyn.

His voice was still in fine shape.

Where the FUCK is "Here I Go Again"????

Mr. Snrub, Saturday, 31 May 2014 12:54 (ten years ago) link

It's weird that it isn't on there...it's mentioned in the liner notes.
