As most of you know we did the 80's Albums in the summer of 2012 and did the 70's Albums last summer. This year it was between going forward to the 90's or going backwards to the 60's. Flipped a coin and here we are. Will definitely do the 90's next summer.

Number 2 for 1960. Psycho Paramount $9,100,000

this is way before my time, so really i don't know.

Bee OK, Thursday, 15 May 2014 01:20 (ten years ago) link

as you can see i'm counting up, unlike the 70's decade. that was because 1979 was already done.

I'll jump on when My Favorite Things comes up next year. I have five or six of these, but none of them have any special significance for me. (Going to guess that the first pop album I vote for will be the Ronettes in '64.)

change of the century w/ some agonizing over mingus at antibes

Pretty much everyone here has much better albums before and after this year

Yeah, will likely choose Mingus at Antibes narrowly over Ornette, even though it wasn't actually released until 1976.

It pains me to skip over one of my favorite Miles jawns but ELLA ELLA ELLA

I was tempted to vote for Soul Station but went with Sketches of Spain ... lots of good stuff on this list

"We'd like to open the set with a composition that is based on a folk song form. It has no title yet, so it will probably appear on the record some place titled, something like, um - what could replace 'opus' - like opus -
or New Series One, Folk Series."

Not my first jazz album, but the first to really pull me in & make me listen.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

I won't pretend it's the best thing on this list, but Eric Dolphy needs some love. Of the two here I slightly prefer Outward Bound.

Were pop/rock albums not yet a thing in 1960, or were they just not very good or popular yet? I see only two pop albums here; a decade later rock would dominate and there's no jazz at all save for one Miles disc (and even that one incorporated rock leanings).

Change of the Century. But damn, so much great stuff.

"Blues & Roots" is actually my favourite Mingus album, but it's hard not to vote for Ella... Loads of other great records there too, but those two are my favourites.

Can't argue with the results, even though I was one of the two Antibes voters. What an insane year.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 13:55 (ten years ago) link

Missed this poll completely but I would've voted for the winner anyway - probably my favourite Coltrane album. Sketches of Spain would be second place, most of the others I haven't heard.

three weeks pass...

Would have voted for Soul Station
