Who is going this year? Who do you want to see?

I'm going. I won't be seeing Metallica, not for any ideological reasons but because I'd be one of those annoying twats shuffling around and waiting for Enter Sandman, and that would be lame.
Without wanting to turn this into yet another tedious "wah poor maligned metalheads" thread, it does feel like metal is the last remaining style of music to be "allowed" into Glastonbury. There were rappers playing the festival for years before Jay-Z headlined, but assuming NIN don't count (they don't) I can't remember a metal band ever playing, anywhere on the bill. There was an opera on the main stage ten years before a metal band.
The set itself is more likely to veer towards damp squib than triumph I think, most of the crowd won't be familiar with enough of their music and they aren't exactly a band who know how to whip up a party atmosphere.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:34 (twelve years ago)
Seems strange they get to play and Black Sabbath dont but they're just another arena rock act now and I dont really see the controversy. Its not like they're only playing 80s stuff. Im sure the crowd will know plenty of the songs.
― ۩, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:36 (twelve years ago)
most "metalheads" have been over metallica for 2 decades now tbh. I think if Iron Maiden or Slayer were to headline it would be a lot more controversial. But lets face it I bet Orbital headlining way back was controversial to some. It will be interesting to see if another hip-hop act will ever headline again.
― ۩, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:38 (twelve years ago)
There isn't a controversy, no one gives a shit.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:39 (twelve years ago)
anyway, who do you fancy watching?

Only because Metallica would blow that bequiffed cunt's band offstage any day of the week, and that's even with Metallica not being the force they were in the '80s/early '90s.
― Toni Braxton-Hicks (Turrican), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:44 (twelve years ago)
The thing that doesn't make much sense to me is Blondie being way way down the bill on the Other Stage. It's fucking Blondie! They should have the Pyramid slot late Sunday afternoon, it's perfect for them.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 21:07 (twelve years ago)
Agreed
― ۩, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 21:15 (twelve years ago)

most of the crowd won't be familiar with enough of their music and they aren't exactly a band who know how to whip up a party atmosphere.
we'll see. the nascent success of bands like royal blood suggest that The Kids can still get a wild thrill out of math-like riffage at loud volumes.
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 4 June 2014 11:00 (eleven years ago)
Just saw the running order. Haim fifth on the Other Stage (below Foster the People!) seems a bit strange. Looking forward to the Angel Haze > Kelis > Lana Del Rey run on Saturday afternoon.
― What is wrong with songs? Absolutely nothing. Songs are great. (DL), Wednesday, 4 June 2014 11:02 (eleven years ago)
I'm up for that but replacing LDR with Kacey Musgraves who's on in the Acoustic Tent and easily missed.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 4 June 2014 11:06 (eleven years ago)
haim has never had a hit remotely comparable to pumped up kicks or whatever the hell it's called
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 4 June 2014 17:01 (eleven years ago)
There are people lower down the bill with bigger hits than either, but Haim have sold way more records over here.
Annoyed by that positioning anyway as it means they clash with Rudimental on the main stage.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 4 June 2014 17:37 (eleven years ago)
James Hetfield just rambled for a minute or two about how "everybody who wants to make this world a better place, raise your hand!!" and then "everybody who wants to be accepted for who you are, raise your hand!" and then "if you think music heals your soul, raise your hand!!!!!"
and then immediately goes "this next song is called..... CYANIDE!!!!!!"

fuck the hate.
i thought that was fantastic
loved the simple stage set ..
the lack of visual excess, and the crowd on stage ..
bottom line is .. they did good ..

I didn't watch much of the TV coverage but I did see some of Dolly Parton's set, which was great. Rumour has it she was miming though?

Enjoying PinkPantheress. I knew the Underworld track but seems a lot of her other songs sample well known dance tracks too, which is going down well on the mainly electronic Woodsies stage

Told there were TERF and Israel flags visible in the crowd (during Alanis Morissette especially) yesterday. OTOH Kneecap still on for today.

Bob Vylan just telling a story about a record industry "zionist cunt" he used to work for who signed the anti-Kneecap letter, this is brilliant but wondering at what point the BBC will pull the transmission.

The band urged people to come out to support Ó hAnnaidh at his next court date at Westminster Magistrates Court, for his “trumped-up terrorism charge”. “It’s not the first time there’s been a miscarriage of justice for an Irish person in the British criminal justice system,” said Mo Chara.Ó hAnnaidh then thanked the Eavis family for “holding strong” in the face of criticism of staging the band.Numerous times, the trio chanted “Fuck Keir Starmer!”, with the crowd passionately shouting back. Rod Stewart – playing the Pyramid stage tomorrow – also came under fire, having suggested in an interview that the public should give Nigel Farage “a chance”.Describing him as “Rod the Prod”, Ó hAnnaidh said: “I mean, the man’s older than Israel.”

Doechii and Raye: phenomenal. We had to switch over from Neil Young after two songs as it was so, so bad.
― mike t-diva, Saturday, 28 June 2025 22:40 (ten months ago)
Chose Charli tonight, was pretty good, not the best I've heard her. will check out Doechii first thing tomorrow. Raye was really good, yeah, and surprised at how much I liked English Teacher yesterday. And obviously Pulp. Bob Vylan still the highlight though.
― Proust Ian Rush (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 28 June 2025 22:46 (ten months ago)
re VylanA BBC spokesperson said some of the comments were "deeply offensive", adding it had issued a warning on screen about "very strong and discriminatory language". The set will not be available to rewatch on BBC iPlayer.Police said they were reviewing videos of comments made by Bob Vylan and Kneecap to decide whether any offences had been committed.clowns
