I'm going. I won't be seeing Metallica, not for any ideological reasons but because I'd be one of those annoying twats shuffling around and waiting for Enter Sandman, and that would be lame.

Without wanting to turn this into yet another tedious "wah poor maligned metalheads" thread, it does feel like metal is the last remaining style of music to be "allowed" into Glastonbury. There were rappers playing the festival for years before Jay-Z headlined, but assuming NIN don't count (they don't) I can't remember a metal band ever playing, anywhere on the bill. There was an opera on the main stage ten years before a metal band.

The set itself is more likely to veer towards damp squib than triumph I think, most of the crowd won't be familiar with enough of their music and they aren't exactly a band who know how to whip up a party atmosphere.

Seems strange they get to play and Black Sabbath dont but they're just another arena rock act now and I dont really see the controversy. Its not like they're only playing 80s stuff. Im sure the crowd will know plenty of the songs.

most "metalheads" have been over metallica for 2 decades now tbh. I think if Iron Maiden or Slayer were to headline it would be a lot more controversial. But lets face it I bet Orbital headlining way back was controversial to some. It will be interesting to see if another hip-hop act will ever headline again.

Only because Metallica would blow that bequiffed cunt's band offstage any day of the week, and that's even with Metallica not being the force they were in the '80s/early '90s.

The thing that doesn't make much sense to me is Blondie being way way down the bill on the Other Stage. It's fucking Blondie! They should have the Pyramid slot late Sunday afternoon, it's perfect for them.

Just saw the running order. Haim fifth on the Other Stage (below Foster the People!) seems a bit strange. Looking forward to the Angel Haze > Kelis > Lana Del Rey run on Saturday afternoon.

I'm up for that but replacing LDR with Kacey Musgraves who's on in the Acoustic Tent and easily missed.

There are people lower down the bill with bigger hits than either, but Haim have sold way more records over here.

Annoyed by that positioning anyway as it means they clash with Rudimental on the main stage.

James Hetfield just rambled for a minute or two about how "everybody who wants to make this world a better place, raise your hand!!" and then "everybody who wants to be accepted for who you are, raise your hand!" and then "if you think music heals your soul, raise your hand!!!!!"

The West Holts stream on iPlayer today seems to start after Kneecap so not only can you not watch them but no Bob Vylan nor Nilufer Yanya.

Doechii and Raye: phenomenal. We had to switch over from Neil Young after two songs as it was so, so bad.

Chose Charli tonight, was pretty good, not the best I've heard her. will check out Doechii first thing tomorrow. Raye was really good, yeah, and surprised at how much I liked English Teacher yesterday. And obviously Pulp. Bob Vylan still the highlight though.

Police said they were reviewing videos of comments made by Bob Vylan and Kneecap to decide whether any offences had been committed.

I know they’re not exactly a beloved ILM act, but ohhhh we loved the Scissor Sisters (plus guests Jessie Ware, Ian McKellen, Beth Ditto). I mean, if you want a party on a Saturday night, they’re your band. (Biased because massive fan since the early days.)

Can't find Doechii on iplayer, but Kneecap are up! Watching now before it gets taken down.
