why on Earth would you want to offset Korn hate

On-the-spot Dicespin (DJP), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:09 (eleven years ago)

where are we hating on korn, i'd like to join in

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:12 (eleven years ago)

What song had that video that was filmed from the pov of a bullet? It's probably from a later album. If that's the case, I don't know what I'm doing here.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:17 (eleven years ago)

he means October 11th 2014 will be the 20th Anniversary of the shitstain on music that was Nu-Metal.

though the thread is not all haters

Because anyone who isn't a preening metal purist manbaby or a millennial that didn't hear Korn before 1998 knows that the first Korn album is a wall-to-wall classic

grindie cindy (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:19 (eleven years ago)

infact most people arent hating on the 1st Korn at all its more the albums and other bands that followed. The 1st Korn is probably one of the top 5 nu metal albums?

I am neither of those things, but I heard the first Korn album around the time of its release and it's more like wall-to-wall carpet.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:23 (eleven years ago)

I know this band through people etching the band name into desks in grade school

smhphony orchestra (crüt), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:24 (eleven years ago)

easier to do than etch linkin park or stuck mojo

"blind" owns for the intro but this album is solid. i'll rep for the 2nd one too but then i'm out.

adam, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:31 (eleven years ago)

Voted 'Blind'.

Toni Braxton-Hicks (Turrican), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:32 (eleven years ago)

I think the first two System Of A Down albums piss on this album from a great height.

Toni Braxton-Hicks (Turrican), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:41 (eleven years ago)

as do the 1st 2 deftones.
top 6 if you consider white pony as nu-metal of course

"Divine", even though it has the most juvenile lyrics, still makes me writhe around happily

getting strange ass all around the globe (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:45 (eleven years ago)

"Ball Tongue" has some really awesome scatting too.

getting strange ass all around the globe (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:46 (eleven years ago)

i've never listened to korn on purpose. this isn't so bad.

the glimmer man (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 20:46 (eleven years ago)

how can you be a Korn fan and call someone else a manbaby without bursting into gigantic cloud of irony

Like probably a jillion jazz albums.

Diddley Hollyberry (Phil D.), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 21:12 (eleven years ago)

1st two Korn albums are A Ok by me. Finding it hard to believe the first one came out as early as 94 whereas people were still prattling around to Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach as late as 2001. Saw this as a beefier, more rabid update to the original RATM sound at the time - Korn were yet to become part of a wider scene and then start singing about how much it sucks to be famous and rich.
The opening two tracks are excellent. Went with Ball Tongue.

now I'm the grandfather (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 21:23 (eleven years ago)

It's pretty hard to hate this album, especially "Blind". That was a monster when I first heard it. Who knew the goddamn shit-show it would inspire.

djenter the dragon? (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 21:55 (eleven years ago)

the thing i really like about this album is that everyone in the band plays like a drummer, and their parts — blappy bass, dissonant guitars, scatting vocals — all sort of depend on each other rhythmically. Like the "riff" to Blind is just four sixteenth notes

grindie cindy (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 21:59 (eleven years ago)

yeah fieldy's clackity bass is basically a drum sound added to the mix.

Spottie, Tuesday, 20 May 2014 22:09 (eleven years ago)

the first minute of "Blind" really showcases how all the pieces can work seperately and then together

the thing i really like about this album is that everyone in the band plays like a drummer

agreed even though (and maybe because) i think david silveria is terrible drummer

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 20 May 2014 22:47 (eleven years ago)

The beginning of "Blind" is actually kind of cool and dubby. But when the real drums kick in...oh man this is awful drumming.

theboyqueen, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 01:50 (eleven years ago)

Like literally some of the worst metal drumming imaginable.

theboyqueen, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 01:50 (eleven years ago)

And schooldesk etchings are literally how I became interested in Rush back in the day. This is good reason to have a short band name.

theboyqueen, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 01:51 (eleven years ago)

i never got into their albums but i can dig some of the singles

markers, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 01:54 (eleven years ago)

not that i'm disavowing nu-metal or whatever. i like "got the life." i like staind.

the people who are all about deftones and system of a down but none of the rest of it should probably stop posting in threads about this stuff

like, it's ok to like those bands, but if that's all you like then

markers, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 01:56 (eleven years ago)

subposting the nu-metal thread i guess

markers, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 01:57 (eleven years ago)

Silveria sounds like a 6th grader playing on a schooldesk, so

thewufs, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 01:57 (eleven years ago)

I dunno, I kind of ride for silvera. He's a little on the stiff side but his double kick style takes an easy trick and made it iconic, maybe?

grindie cindy (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 02:32 (eleven years ago)

I'm kind of a huge fan of Clown (or 'Four' as I originally thought it was called)

#zolo (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 03:43 (eleven years ago)

Life is Peachy is my fave though. Its a bit like the great unsung dance punk album.

#zolo (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 03:45 (eleven years ago)

Fun fact: I played Porno Creep for Rev on outloud. He said it sounded like a Meshell Ndegecello song...

The only thing I've ever heard from this is Shoots and Ladders, one time on the radio. It blows.

Best thing about Korn is they make a great ironic user name for online music forums. If you're trying to pick the least-cool name, you could do worse.

Without revisiting, Ball Tongue

, Thursday, 19 June 2014 00:04 (eleven years ago)

Ball Tongue is no doubt the winner here but this whole album is a classic.

Dreamland, Thursday, 19 June 2014 00:05 (eleven years ago)

And so is Life Is Peachy (minus the covers). Life is Peachy is like the darker, sloppier version of this in all the best ways. Then it was all downhill from there for them

Hah I remember thinking that song was so intense when I was younger

Dreamland, Thursday, 19 June 2014 02:17 (eleven years ago)

They have a lot of short songs that are honestly nice little breaks in the album. If I remember right, that's one of them. And twisssst

Dreamland, Thursday, 19 June 2014 02:21 (eleven years ago)

Clown is the best

the fourth death of ernest borgnine (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 19 June 2014 03:43 (eleven years ago)

I dare a band have a better intro to their set than Blind.. That song live will always go off hard.. I still enjoy this album..
I saw them open for Biohazard and House of Pain but I had no idea who they were prior. The were a breath of fresh air in '94. no one was tuned down that low that anybody noticed.. They were a game changer for heavy music at a time when heavy music was pretty shitty, at least in the more mainstream areas. They quickly started to eat shit, and kinda painted themselves into a corner with no way to grow. But that shit was awesome at the time..

SeanWayne, Thursday, 19 June 2014 06:10 (eleven years ago)

even though the intro to Blind is a bit of a rip off of Primus's Too many Puppies.. but whatevs
