The future of the Megamix

You know, all the hits, whacked together in four minutes, perfect for wedding discos and Christmas releases and all that. Whatever happened to them? The last ones I remember were by Gloria Estefan and Boney M back in 1992 or therabouts. Thank Abba For The Music doesn't count.

So, as discussed in the pub last night, using all todays modern technology, a new hit megamix should be assembled, ready for Christmas. But who to choose? Madonna? The Manics? Destiny's Child? Blur? Merzbow? The choice is yours.

By the way, I am actually going to do this!

There's a very good one out for Gigi d'Agostino.

I believe there are at least two 5ive Megamixes floating about, one of which is on the Greatest Hits. And there was the Grease Megamix a few years ago.

if you're gonna restrict it to stuff from this year only and cram it into 4 minues or so then cool, been working on some lengthier e.o.y. party soundtrack type stuff myself tho at this rate it wont be done until christmas eve 2003...

Jive Bunny Electroclash megamix coming soon.

kinski (kinski), Friday, 18 October 2002 12:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Blueski - nope, I'm not restricting it to music from this year. The longer the career span the better in this case.

As I maintained last night it has to be the Manics.

Manics new song coming out to promote G Hits = most likely rubbish.

Manics megamix coming out to promote G Hits = most likely awesome.

Who's got Ben Liebrand's #?

Fugazi would be funnier (and possibly better) than either

I'd been under the impression that the Grease Megamix was made in the 80s. It seems to have been around since the beginning of time, at any rate.

Harumph! Can you really do no better than the fucking Manics?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 27 October 2002 01:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Pulp are the most obvious choice, no? Ok, Pulp are usually my obvious choice for pretty much *anything*, but they have to be more megamix-worthy than the sodding Manics.

That said, I frickin' *hate* megamixes! Hmmm. Arguing with mice elf again...

Megamixes are great. There's been a few Madonna ones I think - whether they're "official" or not I don't know. Pulp would be fantastic.

Clearly the best one ever is the Technotronic one. That was my world in 1990. (NB I am serious)

Oh god I regret just posting that. Though not much.

So. Namesnamesnames. "Let's All Countdown In The Common Little Soul 2002"?

"If You Love Us Tolerating Motown Your Motorcycle Will Be Everlasting"?

"Walken's Smallpox Scraping Margin Facet Room"?

C'mon people now, heads together! More band suggestions would be handy, but...

sounds like this will be an 'intro inspection 2002' kinda thing - just in time for the backlash eh? ;)
