Beyond the Valley of the Strawberry Alarm Clock

Spurred on by the stuff not reissued thread, I was wondering if anyone could let me know which SAC tracks are on the soundtrack album. There's this amazing party-scene instrumental I've been after for the past few years.

Have a good weekend, btw...

"Girl From the City" and "I'm Coming Home" (both in the party scene) are the only SAC tracks that are included on the official album. No amazing instrumental or "Incense and Peppermints," sadly. Also the Carrie Nations tracks are different versions of the tracks used in the flick.

Best movie of all time? I think so.

As one could tell from your e-mail address, yes. ;-) A filmgoing highlight of my life: a UCLA screening of it in 1991 or so when it was still officially out of circulation, attended by Russ, R. Ebert, the lead Carrie Nation, a couple of the other actresses and the guy who played Z-Man himself! Made for a great panel discussion. Half the LA punk scene from the seventies was in the audience somewhere, I gathered.

Whoa, I'm jealous. I hear Russ isn't doing so well these days (a recent interview with one of his oft-used actresses revealed that he's losing to Alzheimer's), which sucks. He's such an American hero.

I spend my days anxiously awaiting the announcement of BVD on DVD. 'Course it probably won't include Meyer's commentary, but anything is better than the ugly p&s analog version most of us have to put up with.

Eh? I thought it was on DVD...

Nope. AFAIK, It's only available on tape.

the 1st few times i seen it was on tape, it was a nth-gen dub off dutch (?) tv. looked good that way, the blurry colour effect was even more lurid & sleazy looking than a normal russ meyer movie. i used to have the s/track album but i sold it, whatta dumbass i was. i don't recall the SAC songs being that good tho, did they have any good songs apart fom "incense & pep."?

I'm fond of "Barefoot in Baltimore".

Oh yes...Tomorrow, Sit With the Guru (ignore the title), ...loads of stuff - inc. the instrumental from BYVOTD... I really recommend a greatest hits comp.

...and Love Me Again - bluddy brilliant!

there's a song called "black butter" on one of the "electric psychedelic sitar headswirlers" comps that's pretty damn nice.

"Sit With the Guru" goes too far for me, i.e. crosses the line from kitschy fun to just plain embarrassing. Then there's "Eulogy" from The World in a Seashell -- a love song with a surprise twist at the end that tries for sweet and clever, but ends up being kind of creepy (you'll see what I mean when you hear it).

Overall they basically deserved their reputation as lightweight and contrived, but whoever produced them had a nice sense of orchestration and arrangement.

(I like their harmonies, too -- when they're in tune, anyway...)

There's an announcement regarding the planned DVD -well worth having a read, and possibly even joining in on the letter writing campaign demanding (begging for?) extra features!
