Modern Rock #2 Hits, Pt. 6: The Mid-Aughts (2005–09)

Voting for Fall Out Boy, but this is really the era of modern rock radio where I got completely off the bus. No idea about most of these.

My top five:

Muse – "Starlight"
Fall Out Boy – "Dance, Dance"
Weezer – "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To"
Linkin Park – "Bleed It Out"
Linkin Park – "Shadow of the Day"

But yeah, other than these I'd probably only salvage about 3 more songs from this whole line-up

Tool strike back with another 7-minute-long #2 hit (which would have debuted at #1 had it not been released two weeks after "Dani California")

"No Way Back" is v underrated, one of the best Foo Fighters songs

"Bleed It Out" and "Dance Dance" and "I Want You Too" all big favorites also. I even like the 311 song!

Only know a couple of these but the Blue October song is such a pile. I couldn't write a worse parody of sensitive grunge

Also this is the first I realized that Apocalyptica was not just a Metallica cover band

Muse.

Even more than the last poll, this chart scrapes the bottom of the barrel of nu metal and lame hard rock.

Dire. I was seriously considering voting for Linkin Park before voting for Fall Out Boy. Just dire.

"Starlight" as it might be the only good song on here.

Surprisingly, Linkin Park actually have one of the least heavy-sounding songs ("Shadow of the Day", one of their more underrated singles imo) from this entire list, which contains an awful lot of forgettable post-grunge/hard rock records (worst offender: Crossfade [???]'s "Cold", which recalls memories of "Lips of an Angel" and other bad rock power ballads from this era)

I haven't heard anything from this era of Tool. Maybe I'll go pick up the album today. The last poll already got me to re-buy Ænima and Lateralus.

I cant stand I Want You Too. This list has prob some of my least favorite songs ever, but man that song burrows deep down into my soul to inspire some hatred...

Cant recall that Three Days Grace song but am thinking a JoJo cover would go some ways towards redeeming them in my eyes

Starlight. I sense that I am in a minority on ILM but I fucking love Muse. I wish more people here loved them, I'd love to do a Muse artists' poll one day.

"Starlight" is my favorite song in the ballot but I assumed that it would already get a decent amount of supporters and ended up throwing in a pity vote for "Shadow of the Day"

("Dance Dance" is one of my least favorite FOB songs although I like the bridge a lot)

Starlight. The only Muse-song I like.

I like that Muse song! I didn't even know that was its name. I dont quite like it as much as "Little Sister" or "Hammerhead" tho; "Knights of Cydonia" would have had a better shot tbh.

(Same goes for FOB and "I'm Like a Lawyer" btw)
