Despite having limited input in the creation of "Blurred Lines," Thicke was given a co-writer credit, which he says entitles him to about 18-22 percent of publishing royalties. Why would Williams be so generous?
"This is what happens every day in our industry," said Williams during his own deposition (read in full here). "You know, people are made to look like they have much more authorship in the situation than they actually do. So that's where the embellishment comes in."
Williams' own testimony also got off to a belligerent start. At one point during the examination, Williams says he can read music, but then is shown a transcription of a song, and asked to identify notes and durations. "I'm not comfortable," Williams responds eight times as Busch presses to figure out whether he really can read music.
The producer is evasive in other ways. Asked whether Marvin Gaye has influenced him, Williams says , "He's an Aries. I respect him."

ha, I've kinda wondered this too

it's also odd how many critiques of "blurred lines" on that front rest entirely on the phrase "i know you want it" (a sentiment you can find in songs by men and women throughout the history of pop, though i'm not denying it's a loaded phrase) and not on the third verse where he gives the object of his affection drugs that always work for him before shouting "no more pretending!"

yeah it seemed like a lot of the critiques of "blurred lines" were by ppl who hadn't read all the song's lyrics and didn't know who was singing/rapping what

xp reads very differently if you substitute 'drugs' for 'weed'.

yeah, which is why i still like the song and can accept it as a macho hook-up fantasy. i'm just saying if one wants to argue it should be perceived as an exceptionally skeevy assault fantasy, the last bit gives the take more weight.

the funny thing about Thicke originally wanting 2 Chainz on "Blurred Lines" is something similar happened with the follow-up single "Give It 2 U" where he went and got a 2 Chainz verse on it and then the label got a Kendrick verse and made that that the 'main' version of the song. i like the idea of Thicke as a huge fan/friend of 2 Chainz, makes too much sense.
