2 Chord Song - Chalets ("You kinda fine looking ladies, can we join your band?/We got a two-chord song, and some fancy guitars")

Strong - Robbie Williams ("I look like Kiss but without the make up/
And thats a good line to take it to the bridge")

En natuurlijk:

Refrain Refrain - Pay TV ("Making a hit can be easy/Just put together the standard pieces/Refrain, refrain, refrain, refrain/And were repeating it again, again and again")

Guuz H (Guuz H), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

De ontelbare varianten op "This is a song about..." zijn toch ook meta? Nomineer ik: "This is a song about a superhero named Tony. It's called Tony's theme."

Mic B (Mic B), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 12:55 (twenty years ago)

I wrote this song two hours before we met.
Something changed- Pulp

I was twenty-one old when I wrote this song, I'm twenty-two now but I won't be for long
Billy Bragg, a New England

it goes like this, the fourth the fifth the minor fall and the major lift
-Hallelujah - Leonard Cohen.

I'm singing this borrowed tune I took from the Rolling Stones
neil Young, Borrowed Tune

Jan Rot: A mineur (Pijn)

Art Brut - Formed A Band
Smog - A Hit

de laatste regels van Eminem's "Any Man"

So reach in your billfolds, for ten ducats
and pick up this Slim Shady shit that's on Rawkus
Somethin somethin somethin, somethin I get weeded
My daughter scribbled over that rhyme, I couldn't read it

patrick_ (patrick_), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:08 (twenty years ago)

En
Let's call this song exactly what it is
Rock Steady - Aretha Franklin
You're the devil in disguise,
That's why I'm singing this song to you.

Beautiful Strange, Madonna
and you can tell everybody that this is your song
Your Song, Elton John

central scrutinizer (central), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:10 (twenty years ago)

I'm with the skater boy,
I said "see you later boy
I'll be back stage after the show
I'll be at the studio
singing the song we wrote
about a girl you used to know"

patrick_ (patrick_), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:13 (twenty years ago)

Won’t you help to sing These songs of freedom? - ’cause all I ever have: Redemption Song
en

Carly Simon - You're So Vain

Jaap (Jaap), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

"I write the songs" - Barry Manilow [/too obvious]

Kuhnjugend (Koens), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

Kuhnjugend (Koens), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:21 (twenty years ago)

Carly Simon - You're So Vain

Guuz H (Guuz H), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)

De Dijk - Lovesong 100.001

(ik doe niets liever
en al word ik nog zo oud
honderdduizend lovesongs
als jij maar van me houdt
en ik blijf proberen
ik blijf proberen
ik blijf proberen voor jou alleen)

Guuz H (Guuz H), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

this song - ron sexsmith

I brought a song into this world
Just a melody with words
It trembles here before my eyes
How can this song survive?
[...]
I'll never leave this song alone
I'm gonna keep it safe and warm
etc.

moniiq (moniiq), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

Het Mooiste Voorbeeld lijkt me toch "Million Seller" van Pooh Sticks.

Kuhnjugend (Koens), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I can do it with the songs I sing.
I’m not a prophet, and I’m not a priest.
I’m not a wise man who’s come from the East.
I wouldn’t tell you what’s right or what’s wrong.
I’m just a singer of songs

(J. Cash - A singer of songs)

Marcel Verhoeven (Marcel Verhoeven), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

Oh, en 'why do i find it hard to write the next line' uit Spandau Ballets "True".

Kuhnjugend (Koens), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

Built To Spill - Joyride ("This part of the song is called the second verse / it sounds just like the first one, but with different words / it only has two chords, they are A, E D")

TV Personalities - If I Could Write Poetry ("If I could write poetry / I would write a thousand words / and tell the world that I love you")

Martijn Grooten (martijng), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

Orange Juice - L.O.V.E.

"I started to write this song about you
Then I decided
To write it all about love"

Kuhnjugend (Koens), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

"Please Play This Song On The Radio"

We wrote this song, it's not too short, not too long
It's got back-up vocals in just the right places (in just the right places)
It's got a few oohs and ahhs (oooh aaah)
And it takes a little pause
Just before I sing the F word

Please play this song on the radio

Almost every line is sung on time
Almost every verse ends in a rhyme
The only problem we had was writing enough words
(oooh aaah)
But that's okay, because the chorus is
Coming up again now

Please play this song on the radio
Please play this song on the radio

Please play this song on the radio
Please play this song on the radio
Please play this song on the radio
Please play this song on the radio
Please play this song on the radio (please play this song)
Please play this song on the radio (please play this song)

Right about this time
Some shit head will be drawin a fat fuckin' line
Over the title on the back sleave
What an asshole!
So Mr. DJ I hope you've already made your segue
Or the FCC is gonna take a shit right on your head

Can't play this song on the radio (can't play this song)
Can't play this song on the radio (can't play this song)

"Fingers of Love" van Crowded House
the chiming of a perfect chord

"Summer is Gone" van Hallo Venray
I'm working on a new song

Andre Kuijpers (Andre Kuijpers), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

Ionica (Ionica), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

"Cliché" van Fish

No explicit lyrics in this song

(...)
THIRD VERSE! DIFFERENT FROM THE FIRST!
(Ramones natuurlijk!)

central scrutinizer (central), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

central scrutinizer (central), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

Ionica (Ionica), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

patrick_ (patrick_), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 14:14 (twenty years ago)

Stonehead (Stonehead), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

song without words - paul armfield

I wouldn't want something I said, to hurt you and mess up your head
And so just for you I have written this song without words
[...]
Todays words of wisdom will be chewed-up and spat out tomorrow
Just to twinkle from the roadside like ticker-tape after parade
I don't want a place in the charts of the song as disposeable art
So without risk of failure I've written this song without words

"We’re not gonna make it
Cause we don’t have the talent
And we don’t have the time
We don’t have the patience
And we don’t know how to rhyme"

Ionica (Ionica), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

"We're not..." is een cover, maar van wie ook alweer? Plaat (met nog immer geweldige hoes met allevier de Presidents erop) zegt written by Ben Reiser. Wie was dat ook al weer?

Badly Drawn Boy - This Is That New Song

Jeroenjugend (jeroen), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

Threw some chords together
The combination D-E-F
Is who I am, is what I do
And I was gonna lay it down for you
Try to focus my attention
But I feel so A-D-D
I need some help, some inspiration
(But it’s not coming easily)
Whoah oh…

Trying to find the magic
Trying to write a classic
Don’t you know, don’t you know, don’t you know?
Waste-bin full of paper
Clever rhymes, see you later

These words are my own
From my heart flow
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you
There’s no other way
To better say
I love you, I love you...

Read some Byron, Shelly and Keats
Recited it over a Hip-Hop beat
I’m having trouble saying what I mean
With dead poets and drum machines
I know I had some studio time booked
But I couldn’t find a killer hook
Now you’ve gone & raised the bar right up
Nothing I write is ever good enough

These words are my own
From my heart flow
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you
There’s no other way
To better say
I love you, I love you…

I’m getting off my stage
The curtains pull away
No hyperbole to hide behind
My naked soul exposes
Whoah.. oh.. oh.. oh.. Whoah.. oh..

Trying to find the magic
Trying to write a classic
Waste-bin full of paper
Clever rhymes, see you later

These words are my own
From my heart flow
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you

That's all I got to say,
Can't think of a better way,
And that's all I've got to say,
I love you, is that okay?

These Words - Natasha Bedingfield

Bright Eyes - Entry Way Song

So would you sing with me
The song is all I know
Some truths are told now only in a melody
So I've been writing a new one
Yeah, I've been taking my time with it
It's gonna be so perfect
It's gonna hold all of us inside of it
You will see
If you just add your harmony
I think it would be complete
And be worthy of singing
Becomes a symphony

Hij heeft er sowieso een handje van:

Road to joy:
So I’m drinking, breathing, writing, singing
Everyday up on the clock

A Perfect Sonnet:
I try to write it down into a perfect sonnet
or one foolish line

Another Travellin' Song:
Well I'm changing all my strings
I'm gonna write another travelin' song
about all the billion highways
and the cities at the break of dawn

refrain:
Dit is een geweldig mooi lied
Vind je dat niet
't Is toch een geweldig mooi lied
Vind je dat niet
Ik heb het helemaal zelf verzonnen
En al honderd maal zelf gezongen
Dit geweldig mooi lied

Ik voel me echt een zangeres
Ik ben een vrouw die zwanger is
Jammer dat dit geweldig mooi lied
Niet een stukje langer is

Ik heb het helemaal zelf geschreven
Ik heb mij zogenaamd gegeven
Ik voel mij echt een zangeres
Met heel veel succes

refrain

Arrrrh! These Words!

Argh.

Sing, sing a song
Sing out loud
Sing out strong
Sing of good things, not bad
Sing of happy, not sad.

Sing, sing a song
Make it simple
To last your whole life long
Don't worry that it's not good enough
for anyone else to hear
Just sing, sing a song.

Sing, sing a song
Let the world sing along
Sing of love there could be
Sing for you and for me.

Sing, sing a song
Make it simple
To last your whole life long
Don't worry that it's not good enough
for anyone else to hear
Just sing, sing a song.

here's a little song about boots and a darling named nancy
...
this is the part of the song where Billy Strange raised his hand and asked if he could leave the room
..
and this is the part of the record where everyone said, this can't be #1
..
this is the part of the song where the engineer billy bracket said if we don't fade out we'll all gonna be arrested.

This Is Not A Song
This is not a song about politics
This is not a song about sex
If you want I'll talk about arrogance
And if you're respectably dressed

This is not a song about old James Dean
Because he's mentioned in too many songs already
My Friend

This is not a song about animals
This is not a song about trees
There are times when you cannot trust no-one
Tell me why does this have to be

This is not a song about rich and poor
It's about how we probably feel insecure
My Friend

This is a song
I wrote especially for you
I want to say thank you
For having me too
Cause I'm glad to be here on this earth
Living out all my dreams to their worth
And most of all I love you all and wish you well

I'm so bloated up, happy, and I throw things around me.
And Im growing in stages, and have been for ages,
Just singing and floating and free.

Dum de dum dum
Its a heavenly pop hit
If anyone wants it.
Dum de dum dum
Its a heavenly pop hit,
Its something that we're humming as
We swoop low on trees, always sweep under carpets,
We can dive into suns though its not recommended
We can hover, silent, and listen, closely,

Timesbold met diverse liedjes

sewn in seems

one wanders lifeless into love
where language always breaks above
and recalls a hundred thousand dreams
and years of longing sewn in seams
the scars are just about under the skin
which is under a wave which is where we begin
the innocent moves and has moved all along
with the water in his blood that sings the song
a man fell in love with a girl by a bush
and someone innocent drowned
the bush was brought foreward and the girl turned home
and everything freezes in fright
the jury shall rest for the night
but it's too soon to give up for the night
and the girl moved on
and the bush was bright
and justice will be violent to rise

sin( g )

walked over between us
good god on the ground
walked over between us and stomped
but he cannot speak for you
you know what you need
the smash of a window
a stem in your seed
it's true and it's tragic
the love that you lack
the next step you take will be on your back
an angel is reeling
in really cheap shoes
and it's tougher than nails when
you choose to lose
protected by blankets
protected by sails
the good lord will keep you and keep you impaled
but your straps have been broken
and your ears ring
he will hear when you pray
we will love when you sin( g )

word

word's last word was accidental
word would have picked something kinder
word's last word reelend real and savage
word's last word was whatever
we all came to pay some sort of respect
to say a few words to word and ourselves
when we heard word we spoke less to eachother
word left us charmed and empty
word's last word was what i was afraid of
i think it scared word right to death
word loved loving and seeing and depth
but whatever slipped in and disarmed us
now i am prepared to say yes and no
and ask the occational question
but it kills me to think
i think it killed word to know
that silence just may have talked better
oh well

some awful men

some awful men are good for a good story
but the men don't end when the story man dies
the tune sung is sad, a bell tolls in the morning
and i somehow am standing despite myself
it's one awful daybreak, in one awful town
and some awful man was skirting around
and he ruined my morning, knocked over my coffee
and i somehow am standing despite myself
and to my surprise i'll grow
and to his surprise he'll grow
and to our surprise we all grow to superhuman size
some awful men
as soon as they're able
will trick you once with their storyman lies
it's one awful trick in one awful bed
where some women wander, despite themselves
and to her surprise she'll grow
and to his surprise he'll grow
and to our surprise we all grow to superhuman size
and who are you in size?

Rilo Kiley - It's a hit:
No one wants to pay to see your day to day
and I'm not buying it either
but I'll try selling it anyway.

en

and your writers block-it don't mean shit.
Just throw it against the wall and see what sticks.
Gotta write a hit
I think this is it.
It's a hit.

Wat ons automatisch brengt naar DJ Format - The Hit Song

Oei, mag ik even:

More hits than when you play blackjack with a deck of twos
More hits than latin percussionists administer to wood blocks
More hits than Jimmy dropped at Woodstock
I'm not kidding!
I'm responsible for more hits than workaholic mafia hitmen
I need to make hits in the worst way
Hitting harder than a family of starving steroid injected Mexican quintuplets
Armed with crowbars smacking the shit out of a candy filled pinata
on their birthday - only hits when I write
More hits than Germans surfing fetish websites
Yo, that is a lot of hits...
More hits than Barry Bond's playing slow pitch, in a disabled seniors league
Instinctively you wince, from this flurry of hits
But if you're still unconvinced, a last example but then I'll be finished
More hits than Roy Jones junior in a ten round barefisted cage match versus
A sleep deprived, blindfolded Richard Simmons...

Leon Russell - A song for you

I've been so many places in my life and time
I've sung a lot of songs, I've made some bad rhyme

En
Cause we're alone now
And I'm singing this song for you

En
And if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding

Weird Al Yankovic's take on George Harrison's "Got My Mind Set On You"

"(This Song's Just) Six Words Long"

This song is just six words long
This song is just six words long
This song is just six words long
This song is just six words long

Couldn't think of any lyrics
No I never wrote the lyrics
So I'll just sing any old lyrics
That come to mind, child

You really need words
Whole lotta rhyming words
You gotta rhyme so many words, mm-mm
To do it, to do it, to do it, to do it
To do it, to do it right, child

I know that you're probably sore
'Cause I didn't write any more
I just didn't get to complete it
So that's why I gotta repeat it

Oh I make a lotta money
They pay me a ton of money
They're payin' me plenty of money
To sing this song, child

I gotta fill time
Three minutes worth of time
Oh, how will I fill so much time, mm-mm
I'll throw in a solo, a solo, a solo
A solo, a solo here

This song's got nothin' to say
But I'm recording it anyway
I know if I put my mind to it
I know I could find a good rhyme here

Oh, you gotta have-a music
You need really catchy music
This song has got plenty of music
But just six words, child

And so I'll sing' em over
And over and over and over
And over and over and over, mm-mm
And over and over and over
And over and over and over again

Six words long, six words long
Six words long, six words long
Six words long, six words long

This song is just six words long
It's just six words long

En in een nummer (titel?) van Pavement klinkt op het eind van het couplet de geniale überslacker-strofe "and we're coming to the chorus now"...

Coparck - The wrong title for the right song

Marian van Kesteren (Marian van Kesteren), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

Yankovic doet ongeveer net zoiets in "Smells Like Nirvana"

What is this song all about?
Can’t figure any lyrics out
How do the words to it go?
I wish you’d tell me, I don’t know
Don’t know, don’t know, don’t know, oh no
Don’t know, don’t know, don’t know...

And I forgot the next verse
Oh well, I guess it pays to rehearse
The lyric sheet’s so hard to find
What are the words? oh, nevermind
Don’t know, don’t know, don’t know, oh no
Don’t know, don’t know, don’t know...

Ionica (Ionica), Monday, 12 September 2005 06:53 (twenty years ago)

waarom heeft nog niemand "i bet you they wont play this song on the radio" genoemd?
