Man, that would be a belly tee on my 6'1" frame. PLEASE TO INCLUDE TALL PEOPLE IN SO-CALLED "FASHION" INDUSTRY WHERE HEIGHT IS APPARENTLY DESIREABLE!!

ooooh reminds me of how much i lovvved that green dress keira knightly wore in that movie i'm forgetting the name of... the one where they think her bf raped that girl.

atonement, yes?

likely impossible for anyone else to wear.

tehresa, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 19:01 (sixteen years ago) link

i don't think so, tehresa! i mean, it was made for her, obviously, but i could imagine a version of it on a curvier body.

more of a nightgown than a dress, really

bell_labs, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 19:06 (sixteen years ago) link

its a gorgeous color. is that a bellybutton piercing in the middle?

sunny successor, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 19:08 (sixteen years ago) link

lol!

tehresa, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 19:09 (sixteen years ago) link

here is a link to the front of the Mad Men dress. i would also like all her jewelry.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 19:24 (sixteen years ago) link

It's a beautiful color, and the way the sides flutter around the back has a certain v graceful calla-lily appeal to me...unfort from the front it looks like it just doesn't fit her bust. Oh Keira Knightly-paws!

Laurel, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 20:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Re Mad Men: Screw the dress, can I have her hair?

Laurel, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 20:23 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't get tv reception so I have no television-fed fashion desires! Hmm what dresses do I drool over...?

Laurel, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 20:24 (sixteen years ago) link

I hate those stupid Tory Burch shoes so so much (sorry, anyone) but um.........blufly has some TB dresses on sale that I drool over.

Laurel, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:30 (sixteen years ago) link

Like this.

Laurel, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:31 (sixteen years ago) link

v.v.v.v.cute

sunny successor, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:34 (sixteen years ago) link

This one, too. Just think how variously you could accessorize an all-grey dress! Even though I can't wear grey anywhere near my face.

Laurel, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:42 (sixteen years ago) link

me either! its the blonde i think because it was fine when i had black/brown hair

sunny successor, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:44 (sixteen years ago) link

That grey one is INCREDIBLE. love

Abbott, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Maybe with more lipstick. Which I never wear.

Laurel, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:44 (sixteen years ago) link

How much does it cost?

Abbott, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:44 (sixteen years ago) link

grey one is cute but would do horrible things on me.

tehresa, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:45 (sixteen years ago) link

i love the grey one!!

rrrobyn, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh it's 40% off, making it a mere $237.

Laurel, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:48 (sixteen years ago) link

what brand is it?

rrrobyn, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Tory Burch. Embarrassingly.

Laurel, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Grey is my favorite color and I think it looks good on everyone (except v light shades). What is the story of all this self-consciousness? I do not understand. Browns, too...all I wear is grey & brown, for the most part.

Abbott, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, I'm pale and my hair is sort of blah light brown, not that much different from my skin (eyelashes and eyebrows are blonde and invisible). I'd wear that dress but I would need something really colorful around my neck, a scarf or jewelry. And prob a bright lipstick.

Laurel, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:57 (sixteen years ago) link

But accessorizing is about 80% of the fun of getting dressed, so that's perfect!

Laurel, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:58 (sixteen years ago) link

The only color I can't really wear is RED bcz it highlights my enviable acne.

Abbott, Thursday, 14 August 2008 19:58 (sixteen years ago) link

love grey and i am pale! but i have darker hair.

i like this sweet pea dress, but it is only avail in S.

http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/2450/26g95179blacknavy013mednj8.jpg

hey, is that Saleisha?

I wear a lot of black with blue, yellow.. never could get into brown. I think putting on brown makes me a granola hippie or something. Plus with the red hair I'd become an apple tree!

Finefinemusic, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:00 (sixteen years ago) link

hmm...looks like her, but i'd need to see a zoom on the face for definitive yes.

tehresa, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Abbots, if you highlighted yr acne all the girls would want some, I guarantee it. So you better stay away from red indeed, or you'll be mobbed!

(PS I am v self-conscious abt my skin too but I'm trying a new phase of "no one notices as much as I do" and going out anyway. So far no complaints. Most people aren't really very observant, on the whole.)

Laurel, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Having hair that is dyed fun colors does throw a kink into outfit coordination.

I <3 yr hairs btw. xxp

Abbott, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:02 (sixteen years ago) link

i thought it was saleisha but I wasnt sure! here are some shots that look more like her:

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/8401/sal2ff8.jpg

sunny successor, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:08 (sixteen years ago) link

(this is actually quite true - xpost to laurel - even one of my close friends, who is pretty observant and fashiony was really surprised when i mentioned once how i was feeling lacklustre b/c my skin was crappy that day - she said she thought my skin always looked good! it certainly does not! but i do usually wear at least some sheer foundation or cover-up tho. on the other hand, i'm sure that there are some people who totally notice - and of course their opinion counts the most right? LOL. ugh. silly.)

i prefer dark grey to light grey

rrrobyn, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:09 (sixteen years ago) link

Next time I get my hair done it will be a magentaish red, which will really screw me - I've got a red hoodie that compliments this shade of red perfectly, and will probably be unwearable when I have pink tones. Sigh. Dressing really was a lot easier when I had blonde hair, but I'm only young once!

I am confused about the possible Saleisha.. she looks a LOT like her but I haven't seen those pics before, and the Livejournal ANTM community is very thorough about posting any that are found..

Finefinemusic, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:13 (sixteen years ago) link

probably her. hard to tell w/out the tootie cut. if it is her, she lookin haggard.

tehresa, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:14 (sixteen years ago) link

these were on an invite only site for a specific collection. maybe theyre not anywhere else?

sunny successor, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:15 (sixteen years ago) link

I think I am the only person in the world that thinks red & pink look fucking AWESOME together (except if it is a pale pink).

Abbott, Thursday, 14 August 2008 20:16 (sixteen years ago) link

i've totally got a case of oh-noes about this now: i don't want you all seeing how truly boring and style-less my clothes are!!!!!

just1n3, Friday, 12 June 2015 17:58 (nine years ago) link

LOL I only wear leather haute couture so I am definitely going to judge you

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 12 June 2015 19:14 (nine years ago) link

Yeah I am definitely NOT wearing weirdly shaped, awkward-length black pants and a tunic that would be right at home on a lunch lady rn, definitely not.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Friday, 12 June 2015 19:26 (nine years ago) link

I legitimately got stopped on the street the other day and asked if I work in fashion, hahahahaha. It really made me feel good about the awkward mid-calf army boots I threw on because of the rain with my regular black pencil skirt. But mostly my hair distracts and confuses people; my clothes are boring

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 12 June 2015 19:29 (nine years ago) link

why do you think i got tattoos?? i can basically wear frumpy whatever clothes and they get a little boost from the hipster element.

just1n3, Friday, 12 June 2015 19:41 (nine years ago) link

tattoos go really well with sleeveless housedresses imo ... and I just realized I forgot to post to this thread about my LA vacation which was partially spent looking for vintage housedresses. I figured that outside of Florida, LA would have a great selection. Was a bit disappointed tbh but I got a couple gems.

one day I will have tattoos too! But I bought 3 of the same black spandexy pencil skirt a few weeks ago because of my new job (& because I love them), so my wardrobe isn't going anywhere exciting anytime soon.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 12 June 2015 19:57 (nine years ago) link

my LA vacation which was partially spent looking for vintage housedresses
damn that sounds like so much fun
i don't have any tattoos and i think some people expect me to be more square than i am (maybe) but that's their problem

Florianne Fracke (La Lechera), Friday, 12 June 2015 20:36 (nine years ago) link

the most noticeable thing about LA vintage stores vs. SF Bay Area ones -- LA stores are so much bigger!

i bet the clothes were really outlandish too -- i love to try on ridiculous costumey things and LA seems perfect for that
i did some thrift shopping in maine and it was pretty great -- i got a shirt + some earrings in belfast and was wowed by the selection in bangor even though i didn't have any room in my luggage :(

Florianne Fracke (La Lechera), Friday, 12 June 2015 20:43 (nine years ago) link

i forgot there's a thread for this!

Florianne Fracke (La Lechera), Friday, 12 June 2015 20:43 (nine years ago) link

i was gonna ask, do we have a vintage & thrifting thread?

thanks!

FB password didn't work for me :(

decluttered a yr or so ago, got rid of tons of dresses, but kept a few things i couldn't bear to give to goodwill.

so, posting those on fb now, all mostly unworn, plus a couple of camisoles & a tshirt (new). all women's sizes M or L.

so much stuff i never wear!

JuliaA, Wednesday, 24 June 2015 17:22 (nine years ago) link

ahh I have been so all over the place since we got back from vacation that I have not had a chance to get on here and say CARL! I got the dress and it is beautiful and my exact preferred shade of blue!! :) I have not tried it on yet because my house is a disaster and I almost immediately lost it in a pile of clothes while unpacking but I am going to dig it out this week and possibly wear to a winery* this weekend!

*I really hate wine tasting type activities but sometimes that's what you gotta do on a girls' weekend to be a fun team player type friend

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 6 July 2015 19:21 (nine years ago) link

(thank you, Carl!!)

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 6 July 2015 19:21 (nine years ago) link

You're so welcome! It would be a good dress to wear to a winery because it's pretty comfortable and uncomplicated so you can get wasted in it without worrying about a wardrobe malfunction.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Monday, 6 July 2015 20:04 (nine years ago) link

People would not shut up about how much they loved the dress! I hope you enjoyed my instagram preening, haha. I'll get you back one day! Let me know when Ivy is big enough to wear a women's small tee, because my friend put a Blondie tshirt into a goodwill bag and I snagged it, too sad to let it ride out into the ether

carl agatha, Thursday, 13 August 2015 03:08 (nine years ago) link

i vote yes.

JuliaA, Thursday, 13 August 2015 03:11 (nine years ago) link

I don't think I can not get it, honestly. Look at it. It's ridiculous and amazing, has pockets, and is on sale.

carl agatha, Thursday, 13 August 2015 03:12 (nine years ago) link

dresses with pockets are key

drash, Thursday, 13 August 2015 03:15 (nine years ago) link

God I know. Also I'll be riding in a car from Chicago so something comfortable would be nice, and this fits that bill, too. And it's long enough that I won't feel like I need to wear stockings.

carl agatha, Thursday, 13 August 2015 03:19 (nine years ago) link

yes vote from me, too

just1n3, Thursday, 13 August 2015 05:32 (nine years ago) link

i vote yes but only if you have a somewhat matching hair accessory, otoh i have never been to Milwaukee, a place i imagine where ppl eat ambrosia salad unironically, so

sarahell, Thursday, 13 August 2015 06:40 (nine years ago) link

I have no idea about the hair accessories, love the dress, and would like to learn from this by hearing about what kind of shoes should be worn with it.

ljubljana, Thursday, 13 August 2015 11:16 (nine years ago) link

pretty pretty dress, must get!

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Thursday, 13 August 2015 11:46 (nine years ago) link

I don't know about hair accessories (my hair is really short rn anyway). I have a pair of shoes I planned to wear but I would be very interested in seeing what shoes stylish people would recommend to see if my shoe instinct is anywhere near correct.

carl agatha, Thursday, 13 August 2015 11:51 (nine years ago) link

you may not have been to Milwaukee, sarahell, but Milwaukee has certainly had its share of visitors. The French missionaries and explorers were coming here as early as the late 1600s to trade with the Native Americans.

kinder, Thursday, 13 August 2015 12:35 (nine years ago) link

vote yes on the dress! very colorful, i like it.
milwaukee is super cool, ambrosia salad is not otm (maybe other parts of wisconsin but mke is home to some really cool ppl, ppl you would like sarahell!)
shoes? i know you don't like heels (i don't either) but i think you could probably wear whatever slightly dressy shoes you want because the shoes will not be the focal point of your outfit, the print of the dress will. the plainer the better in a situation like that imo.

La Lechera, Thursday, 13 August 2015 12:54 (nine years ago) link
