loving the keyhole bridge & the colorways on some of these -- really pleased that they sort styles by width as i have a lol hueg face

some of them are a little tom ford-y? but you can't really argue w/ that price point imho

ooh i had my exam yesterday, but i got my pupils dilated and i couldn't see, so i really couldn't try on any frames.

i do, however, need to do this soon, because my eyes are getting progressively more irritated by contacts in the past year. given that i tried about 5 different brands last year, doc says the only solution is to wear contacts less and glasses more.

i think i just need to take someone with me to find frames that look good on my face and then try to find an approximation on googles4u or whatever.

I want new glasses too but have no idea what kind. It's a big decision!

I had my pupils dialated at my last exam a couple weeks ago and had to drive home. It sucked.

haha my bf was so concerned about me driving that he came and met me and we went to trader joe's to do some grocery shopping before he would allow me to return to my car and drive home.

The Dr. was like oh you'll be fine - just wear your sunglasses. I mean it was fine for the most part since it's only close up vision that's the prob but still a v v weird sensation.

yeah. i didn't have any sunglasses with me, and i told bf that it was ok, the only messed up part was the close up vision, but he was like 'this is not a good idea.' lol.

i tried some and they all looked absolutely hideous on me. i hate wearing glasses though, so the stronger color/larger frame styles i tend to dislike. thinking about getting a new pair. wondering if i should try yet again to switch to contacts..

i mean, i like some of the warby parker frames. just not on me, they are kind of overwhelming

maybe find some rimless glasses?

woman @ eye doc frame store says I need frames That are slightly round (rather than angular) but her selection was awful so I still don't know what would look good on me!

Americans, a few weeks ago I got a free pair of glasses from ClearlyContacts.ca and they sent me an email telling me that Americans would get a free pair special in April.. hopefully I am not too late! I think the US site is CoastalContacts ? "Like" them on FB and you should be able to find out about the offer soonish. My pair were $150 and lovely quality; I managed to order two Jones NY pairs for $20 each last week on the strength of that quality.

i always order my contacts from them and they send me free things (like cases or sunglasses, which are ugly but usable for running/hiking).

nice! I'm usually a Zenni girl because I'm cheap but it was super nice to get the freebies/cheap quality frames!

yeah that's why i was asking for shape/size tips at the store. but i am still pretty clueless. my technique will probably be: get really cheap ones in case i hate them.

try a bunch on at a store if you don't know what suits you - I just kinda wing it nowadays but the first few pairs I ordered, I used my existing glasses as a reference - measured the width, length of the arms, etc so that I knew they would look the right size on me. Then, it's trial and error. I have about 5 pairs that I've accumulated that just didn't work on me, but since I only pay $10-30 it worked out.. don't be tempted by Zenni's $8 wire frame ones because they consistently always look junky. What looks bulky online is a normal size & what looks thin online is cheap IRL. IMO.

also if you are getting a prescription.. get your doc to give your your PPD (pupillary distance) - otherwise you can just have a friend do it with a ruler.

yah ffm otm. i have about 6 or 7 pairs of specs i bought from either zennioptical or goggles4u. goggles has ridic sales all the time and they're selling designer frames now, too.

I've gotten burned a few times buying online - no substitute for trying stuff out in person, imo

burned in as, I paid some $$ for some nice vintage frames that look awesome in the huge and helpful pics that the seller provided, but they just didn't look that good when I tried them on irl

well, you shouldn't be paying brick & mortar prices online. :) the incentive for me is that it costs me $300 for two pairs of glasses & lenses IRL, but can be as low as $40 online. If I have to buy a third pair to find the right fit, still works out for me.. but I've tried hundreds of pairs on at shops so I know exactly which styles look good on me. Wish that I could figure out my camera angles next! ;)

so sad about these glasses, upthread - http://i37.tinypic.com/afkjmc.jpg - got some sort of spots on the lens (hair spray damage, maybe? it doesn't scratch off..) and now I can't wear them without living in a fog :( gotta find a place in toronto that'll replace the frames cheaply.. I only paid $20 for the frame & lens to begin with, but I love those goofy ones. (though not those goofy bangs. I've learned my lesson.)

haha thanks! I found my current pair in a vintage eyeglass shop in nyc. I have a pair of vintage combo frames from the 60s that I got from a website, look beautiful but 1. are really heavy 2. don't seem to curve correctly at the nose bridge or something, so that I always get dizzy and 3. just don't look that 'good' on me!

The Pierce colors look the best on you imo. I may do a few try-ons of these soon, too. Did you already have a prescription from a local optometrist?

i think you could rock pretty much any of those styles, elmo, but i do agree with rockapads that the pierce colours are particularly good on you.

Huxley feels too small, maybe? The Roosevelt is a classy shape with a nice straight horizontal across the bridge. I want to like the Winston but the downward notch continues/emphasizes the angles of your eyebrows, up then down then up then down...there's too much noise.

hmmm... thanks guys! i agree that the color of the pierce is v flattering, but i'm not too keen on the boxy shape. it's almost too contemporary for my taste. i'm favoring the roosevelt pretty heavily right now. the huxleys come in a light amber color that might counteract the thickness of the frame. i dunno, i've got a few more days before i ship them back.
