They are glasses so even if they are too trendy you can get a other pair in a year or two.

phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:09 (fourteen years ago)

i think lensway uk must be the same company. a lot of the website layout looks the same and when i phoned tocheck something with my free order i got put through to an american call centre.

i looked at some of those derek cardigan ones but i decided the maths symbols were a bit too xkcd for me, but that's mainly because i'm a self-loathing physicist : )

caek, Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:42 (fourteen years ago)

also they spotted my trick and cancelled my second order!

caek, Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:42 (fourteen years ago)

aw, boo!

yeah i think ffm uses a similar company in canada, too.

tehresa, Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:43 (fourteen years ago)

what you have to do is vary your name, email address and payment. i.e. I used Alexis D on one and Alex D on another, paypal for one, credit card for the other.. bwahaha. I am a jerk.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:43 (fourteen years ago)

also noticed the ones i'm getting look like...

caek, Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:43 (fourteen years ago)

hah! yup - ClearlyContacts is Canadian; CoastalContacts(?) is the US version..

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:44 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i changed the names and addresses. they probably wouldn't have noticed if i hadn't called and asked to change the PD on two orders! they were like "nice try buddy". they are really cheap anyway (£29) so i may get a second pair if the fit/scrip is ok.

caek, Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:45 (fourteen years ago)

i had to change the PD because when i printed out that PDF of a relfected ruler for self-measuring in the mirror, i had scale set to 90% in the print dialog!

caek, Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:45 (fourteen years ago)

either i am really terrible at PD measurement, or i am in the 95th percentile of wide-eyed men

haha what a dumbass

caek, Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:46 (fourteen years ago)

LOL! yeah that could've done it. tbh I haven't received my third(!) pair yet. first time I only got one then a coworker told me about this trick, so next time it came up I placed orders #2 & #3. They might've cancelled mine too, but didn't email me or anything to tell me?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:46 (fourteen years ago)

i would keep quiet! i am sure you will get them.

caek, Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:48 (fourteen years ago)

the maths symbols were a bit too xkcd for me

Arg xkcd is exactly what I thought of, too. Look at me! I like plus signs! I'm a nerd! I read web comics!

phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:51 (fourteen years ago)

Jenny, your glasses are ceuts and I didn't even notice the lil arithmetic dudes until you pointed them out (I also think they are cute).

free inappropriate education (Abbbottt), Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:52 (fourteen years ago)

Thanks, Abs! I remain hopeful.

phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:54 (fourteen years ago)

damn, lol I checked my order status and they cancelled it too. Boo! It was worth a shot - at least I got the ones I like the most (https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/248723_10150209067638578_516053577_7212529_4809059_n.jpg) -

these are the ones that got cancelled: clearlycontacts.ca/glasses/frames/nicole-miller-bauhaus-ocean-mist/prod29187.html

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 26 May 2011 14:54 (fourteen years ago)

yeah they are great jenny!

i just think they would look bad on a physicist!

caek, Thursday, 26 May 2011 15:02 (fourteen years ago)

i'm glad i checked ilx yesterday morning before heading out for the day - i bought a pair too!
http://www.coastalcontacts.com/glasses/frames/bum-equipment-activate-havana/prod26019.html?rsView=1

they work out more expensive then the ones i usually buy from goggles4u or zennioptical, but they def have a more 'fashionable' range of frames.

just1n3, Thursday, 26 May 2011 15:42 (fourteen years ago)

also- i love those frames, jenny and i wish i had the balls to rock something like that!

just1n3, Thursday, 26 May 2011 15:43 (fourteen years ago)

I went to a cool shop today and tried on some circular ones like the tortoiseshell ones caek posted, they were pretty good but I dunno if they're too ~trendy~

the ones caek posted are a take on the oliver peoples 'gregory peck' which tbh are a p iconic look. i really wanted a pair as sunglasses but they made my face look too long

i mean i think its p curent but at the same time wont look ridiculous when something else is right now?

goon.ru (Lamp), Thursday, 26 May 2011 16:48 (fourteen years ago)

that is true, I should go back and try again

dayo, Thursday, 26 May 2011 23:28 (fourteen years ago)

Got my glasses and they are CRA-ZAY. I'll take a picture tomorrow after I go to the long-suffering eyeglass shop in my building to have them adjusted. (I'm always down there having them fix a screw or pop a lens back in but I would never buy glasses there because their selection sucks or get an eye exam there because it's kind of skeevy).

phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Thursday, 2 June 2011 23:58 (fourteen years ago)

how much can you adjust glasses? this is my first pair and i'm sure they aren't going to fit.

caek, Friday, 3 June 2011 10:18 (fourteen years ago)

They can adjust the heck out of the arms and the nose pieces (if they have nose pieces). On my regular everyday glasses, they had to adjust the arms so they are at obtuse angles to the frames \oo/, which sounds ridiculous but looks fine and is very comfortable.

phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Friday, 3 June 2011 11:42 (fourteen years ago)

depends, had a pair on which the nose support rubbed a raw spot into the side of my nose no matter how much I adjusted them... had an open sore on my nose for like 3 months

dayo, Friday, 3 June 2011 12:01 (fourteen years ago)

hi! today i am dressed as a villain from raiders of the lost ark.

caek, Thursday, 16 June 2011 09:20 (fourteen years ago)

Do not look into any ornate boxes and you should be okay.

They look good! Do you like them?

phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Thursday, 16 June 2011 12:06 (fourteen years ago)

i like them! they fit and i can see better. someone called me "herr professor".

they are kind of smaller on my face than i was expecting, and next time there is a sale i will get the slightly bigger versions (i got these for free pretty much, but they are now back to £60).

caek, Thursday, 16 June 2011 12:16 (fourteen years ago)

my eyes feel kind of strained/sore. not unbearable, but a noticeable relief when i take them off. is this normal and just me getting used to a new pair of glasses (my first)?

caek, Thursday, 16 June 2011 12:17 (fourteen years ago)

Your first ever pair of glasses? I think they might take some getting used to, yeah (I started wearing glasses at age 13 so I can't remember my initial adjustment period, but every time my prescription changes, I go through a day of perceiving everything as a lot taller than it is). Does wearing them make you feel dizzy or ill or off balance? If that's the case, you might have the wrong PD and you need to do something about that.

phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Thursday, 16 June 2011 12:24 (fourteen years ago)

That happens to me from time tto time. Xp

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 16 June 2011 12:25 (fourteen years ago)

yes, first pair ever. should really have got those from an optician rather than the internet, but the price was right.

i feel fine. no dizziness or whatever. it's like the faintest possible headache. i think maybe part of it is that the lenses are quite small and the frames are relatively thick, so they are right there in my vision. taking them off is a bit like taking non Rx sunglasses off.

caek, Thursday, 16 June 2011 12:26 (fourteen years ago)

I think they look good and very professor-like indeed.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Thursday, 16 June 2011 13:35 (fourteen years ago)

the ones i ordered above are PERFECT - of my previous go-to pairs, one was too light and the other too dark (black) for my colouring, but these are just right.

just1n3, Thursday, 16 June 2011 13:54 (fourteen years ago)

whenever I change glasses, even keeping the same prescription, I go through about 2-3 days of feeling slightly dizzy.

I bought a new pair of glasses with round frames as per the gregory peck linked above except the frames are too thick and not elegant at all so I look like a two bit hipster when I wear them

think I'll stick with my old ones for now

oh well

british sb power (dayo), Thursday, 16 June 2011 14:44 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i wear contacts on the reg and if i switch to glasses i have a weird mild headachey adjustment period. i think it's the difference of the correction being right on your eye vs a half inch away? who knows?

i still need to get new glasses.

tehresa, Thursday, 16 June 2011 14:46 (fourteen years ago)

starting to love these ridiculous glasses. i think they really tie the room together.

caek, Thursday, 16 June 2011 15:05 (fourteen years ago)

hope no one pees on them! :O

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 16 June 2011 15:09 (fourteen years ago)

I ordered new glasses and sunglasses yesterday and I can't wait to get them.

kate78, Thursday, 16 June 2011 15:35 (fourteen years ago)

i am totally used to these glasses now

caek, Monday, 20 June 2011 14:00 (fourteen years ago)

I bought another pair of frames from a vintage shop the other day - they are glass twins of caeks

british sb power (dayo), Monday, 20 June 2011 14:11 (fourteen years ago)

I actually bought some new normal frames at the weekend but they are being fitted out.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Monday, 20 June 2011 19:57 (fourteen years ago)

Here is a deceptively flattering (thank u fatgirl angle and instragram filters!) of my wacky free glasses from Coastal Contacts:

http://instagr.am/p/GSih-/

Jeff shook his head at me over breakfast and said, "It's going to take me a looooong time to get used to those." Ha.

phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Friday, 24 June 2011 13:47 (fourteen years ago)

that link doesn't work :(
